When Poch first joined and we were losing in the league cup against Forest, he took off two seasoned professionals (I think Paulinho was one) and replaced them with Mason and Kane. We came back from behind and won it.

Tonight he took off a youngster at half time and left on the poor-average seasoned pros. Ben Davies as the final sub was also an odd one.

I am in no doubt that his philosophy has changed. His trust in academy players is not where it once was and it is very unlikely that many of our academy players will make it under him.

The unfortunate thing is that it has made us worse as a team. Middle of the road ‘experienced’ players are almost guaranteed a place and the likelihood of a hungry youth player replacing them probably doesn’t feature in their mindset.

I would love Poch to talk about this a little more. For me it is a big disappointment and one of the most exciting factors in his coaching.

agree with your point, but dont turn this into the anti poch thread, some folks around here are very sensitive to any critisicm of Poch, just or not.

this is going to be a wasted year for kwp, probably won't see him again until pre season now.

The replay will be in between the Liverpool and Arsenal games I assume so he should start there.

Playing on a good pitch should help him out. He had a shocker but being a right footed player on the left on such a pitch certainly didn't help. The fact their players seemed to target him also I think unsettled him.

I feel bad for KWP, constantly playing out of position when he plays and has a average player in Trippier ahead of him that takes his game time. I would love to ask Poch why he keeps playing Dier, Sissoko and Llorente when they’ve been awful but refuses to give academy players the chance.
Two of our best players that has come out from our academy in recent times is loaned out to Championship clubs while Sissoko starts for us. It’s not fair. And am I the only one who thinks Sissoko’s workrate is overrated?

It’s 100% time for Sterling to replace Llorente. At least sterling will get about by closing defenders and actually contribute to our attacks

So unfair to have him at left back today, I thought. He’s clearly talented and I think he could be a great right back, but to throw him in a game like that out of position is like setting him up to fail

I agree with the semblance of your post.

What I'll add is something I have mentioned before. Poch is at a crucial crossroad now. One issue is he needs to win a trophy but that's another subject. He is also at a crossroad with youth integration because now it's his players who he has to make big calls on.

When he first joined he inherited a squad which had a toxic atmosphere from the last season and where senior players didn't care. So he washed his hands off them and gave fresh faces a chance.Youngsters who have something to fight for and listen to his message and methods which the older players may not have.

He's now shaped the squad to his fit. The senior players who people could say are blocking the path for academy players are his signings. He could tell Adebayor, Kaboul and Lennon to sit in the stands but he has to take ownership of Sissoko, Trippier and Dier. In addition, the latter three are probably excellent trainers so he respects them.

As others have said it's frustrating and harsh on KWP playing at LB. Only positive is he showing he can 'play against adults' which I assume is obvious as he trains with them. However, at LB he is stifled and can't play his natural game, I haven't seen him play RB in so long I still hope he has his ambition and dribbling ability and this hasn't affected his attacking instincts. He looks a lost less confident. I don't know why in an FA Cup tie if Trippier needs to play he can't have one game at LB he's gone there before so KWP gets a 2nd game in his favourite position. Also Trippier was the one caught under the ball but KWP is hooked. It's a hard game for any academy play.

I guess the replay is his last chance for the season.

Poch is falling into the same trap as other 'successful clubs'. The better a club gets the less chances go to academy players, we have spent so long criticising other clubs we're now at the same place and treating academy players in the same way but haven't actually won anything.

I don't think Dier has done anything wrong, he is an excellent utility player, but I'm not even advocating dropping players, for playing badly, I am advocating given academy players who are good enough chances here and there, to find out if they can be useful to the squad this season or the next, rather than playing the same players, when we know what they have to offer

Today was never a game for TOB on that pitch and atmosphere. But georgiou really what’s the point. If Poch is picking Davies to go on when we are desperate for a goal. Means he is basically never going to get on pitch. Be glad when he is sold just blocking others at moment.

Ironically, Davies did create the corner that leads to equalizer
