Just chucking a name in the hat, and why not? Seems everyone else is having a go.

Anyway - summer clearout at Chavski. The likes of SWP and Stevie could be on the fringes and on the way out.

Sidders could do a decent holding job - I rate him as decent as Nicky Butt was in his prime. Probably not that expensive either.

I thought he was a good player to be fair and he's still looked handy when Chelsea have played him on odd occasion.

it'd be interesting how much they'd sell him for - after all it will be 100% profit.

It was always my belief that they bought him because of the ACN, but even then they had others ahead of him in CM. Worst career move ever? possibly.

He must have known he was no better than average and wouldn't have made it at Chelsea. They only got him because it was a Bosman...

And unfortunately, no. I'm not a fan.

I'm afraid I don't rate Sidwell as top class. Mourinho took a look at him in pre-season training and didn't give him a run in the first team. And I don't think he's even got near the bench under Grant.

Plus - the clincher for me - Sidwell's apparently on absolutely ludicrous wages because Chavski signed him on a Bosman.

I say let the Spammers pay £5 million & £50k a week for him. Then, like Ljungberg (see General Football thread on West Ham's bubble bursting) they can pay him £3 million to fook off in a year's time....

He was part of a midfield that was hard to break down against Reading last season and yes, he did get his head turned by the cash machine.

I reckon he'd be as decent as some other randomly selective names being touted about.

He'd certainly be a no-frills player which is what we need in there. Go in hard and heavy in the english winter.

I'm still trying to fathom why on earth they bought him.
Like someone said - as cover for the ANC. Aside from those opportunities, Makele and Mikel were always going to be ahead of him.

Nope. He clearly went to Chelsea for the ridiculous money, and did a bit of a Scott Parker. I don't want us to sign any Chelsea player.

Dunno about that. The main player I'd take from Chelsea is Mikel, he's been quietly immense this season.

Possibly, haven't seen enough to judge. For the most part though I think the majority of the Chelsea squad went there for the instant success or the money. I don't think we need players like that.

It seems like CFC don't like selling players to us - but if we could get him for about £4m and he'd take a wages cut he'd be worth considering. He'll put his foot in (to put it politely) and while he's more of an Everton player than a Spurs player I think maybe we need a couple of them.

He'd be a squad player for us, but a better and cheaper one than some of the ones we have already. I guess it depends on who's going out. If we can only afford one more mid player, then probably no, reluctantly, but if we can afford a couple then yep a possibility

Does he have the quality? - Hardly played for Chavski and has only played well in the championship.

Does he have the right attitude? - Signed for Chavski for money when he could of signed for any number of clubs for regular football.

Will he improve our first team squad? - Never touted for England, even in his so called prime.

Only benefit is that the transition in moving to tottenham would be easier for him as it would represent less change than for a foreign player.

Well coincidently (or not, if the world's press wait for my speculative threads!!), Sky Sports News is suggesting that three Premiership teams are looking at him - those being Villa, Boro and Everton.

Last time I looked, two of those three had aspirations of top four and are now about to take fifth off us.

I think it's been a while since we went with a no-nonsense killer type, rather than a player with a sweet peg to knock stupendous 60 yard through balls down the channels but doesn't do dirty shorts and socks. I can't recall one of our players going legally horizontal to come away with the ball. Sidwell is that player - well, one of them...

I think there are far better players out there. I've seen him a couple of times for Chelsea this season and he looked well off the pace. I don't think he's as good defensively as people think and he offers very little going forward. A decent mid-table player maybe but not good enough for where we want to be.

Bought as cover for the African National Congress....

Oh, you mean the African Cup of Nations (probably the ACN).

Sorry - it's a weak moment early in the morning... too many of these last night.:beer::beer::beer:

He was very decent when he was at Reading ....

As others have said we could do with a no-nonsense players in there . Look what Nicky Butt and Barton did to us six weeks ago .

My worry would be whether he still has the hunger .

With Modric as first choice surely that spells the death knell for Huddlestone as playmaker .

More than any other position I'm fascinated by who else they will bring into central midfield .
