Waste of a phone call / email / fax or however offers are made and only serves to rub other chairmen up the wrong way, there has been itk in the past that has suggested some chairmen/agents refuse to deal with Levy now.

I would be willing to bet that is complete trash. So some clubs wont buy or sell us players because they dont like our chairman? Sounds like a pretty bad way to run a business.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but when we had a director of football (commoli), we seemed to go about our business far more quickly and more 'professionally'.

I could be completely wrong, but we did seem to sign players without much fuss. It seems now that Levy is doing it first hand he thinks he can always squeeze a bit extra out of the deal.

really worries me how we play this stupid game every transfer window, where we identify our targets and value them nowhere near what the sellers value them at, but rather than moving on we attempt to wait it out thinking that everyone is desperate to sell/sign for us, simply isn't the case and we are gonna end up losing out big time if this policy isn't rethought, understand working within your means but surely we need to be further onlong with our deals now.

Agreed. People are quick to praise Levy for his brinkmanship but often that brinkmanship is his undoing. Other clubs do not want to sell their star players for peanuts.

Nothing cryptic about it mate. He does this time and time and time again.

We will sign players before the deadline but he has wasted the past 8 weeks. If you no you can't afford a player then stop staring at his tits

I didn't think we were after Tomas Brolin?! ;)

Like the summer we sold Keane and Berbatov (last hour of the window) leaving us with Bent, Campbell and Pav and our manager to carry the can ?

Let's not kid ourselves. I like the DOF system, but Camolli made some big blunders, and a club like us (and to be honest, most clubs, not just us) will always have to do some business in the the last few days of the window.

And, contrary to the bollocks being spouted, you don't get players like Berbatov, Modric, Sandro, Adebayor, VDV etc by shopping in Lidl.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it was perfect or anything, but when it came to actually scouting and buying decisively young players, we seemed to do it much slicker.

Things change of course, we operate in a world with man city inflating prices, but I don't think many of us think our current approach to transfers is good for the team.

Very true it's almost like we try to devalue other clubs assets but overvalue ours no wonder clubs probably don't want to do business with us.

To be fair, I think Berbatov and Modric were from Lidl. The other admittedly not.

The simple fact of the matter is that Daniel Levy is not going to bully Champions League sides like Shaktar, Porto, or even Malaga into selling their prized assets at bargain basement prices, especially so late in the transfer window with no time for replacement purchases on their part.

The quote from the Shaktar director really says it all. We want Willian, a high-level talent, but want to pay 9 million pounds in installments. That, frankly, is an insulting offer. I'm not saying break the bank for Willian (I'd much rather go after the cheaper Keisuke Honda), but a derisory offer surely doesn't create an impression of seriousness.

Furthermore, these teams KNOW we are desperate, and we have the Modric money waiting in the wings. There will be no cut-rate prices on targets like Willian, Isco, Damiao, Dembele. The deals for Van der Vaart, Parker, and Adebayor were concluded because we were negotiating in a position of strength, as those clubs all wanted rid of the above 3 for various reasons. With our current targets, none of them are kicking up a storm to force a move, and none of the clubs have any need to sell them.

Knowing all of the above, I've completely tempered my expectation for the next 5 days. At this stage, all I want is for Van der Vaart not to be sold.

Modric was widely recognised as one of the best up and coming youngsters in European football so if that constitutes Lidl then God knows where you shop!

I'm surprised that more people haven't been all over the fact that Willian wasn't even on the bench for Shaktar tonight. I thought that would send shockwaves through this place.

The only real competition we faced for his signature was from Newcastle. And it was easy to see why when it took so long for him to come to terms with the physicality of the football.

I'm all over it - I even did a little jig!;)

Based on what JJ said last night, I think that one must be really, really close. *Fingers crossed*

Come on, they still think Chairmen of other teams are completely honest when discussing figures offered for players. It doesn't matter if Willian isn't playing, if the Shaktar CEO says 30m, then by god we'll never get him.

You mean like he's bullied CL sides like Ajax, Rael Madrid and ManC into giving us quality players for very reasonable amounts ?

Your last sentence is the only intelligent part of that post, because it alludes to the folly of your own expectations, unrealistic and illogical expectations re our position (financial & footballing).
