funny that, not sure how he got an "old" rating for this post,... not like the public are clamoring for Tom Carroll to replace modders...

For all the sceptics, did you like what you saw against Maribor? I know you did, and there is more and better to come. Wait, what's that? I can't hear you laughing anymore. Oh common now, why so serious all of a sudden? Overratedratfacebenchwarmic who? He is history, he was subbed at half time for Real against Borussia when Real were losing the game. That's how "good" he is. Tom Carroll on the other hand can play one touch football in the final third, which is so important when the main striker will end offside if the pass is a moment too late. Good stuff, huh. Yes Maribor is not Borussia but last season Modric was "pulling the strings in the midfield" in our home game against PAOK that we lost and guess who was one of the strikers in that game - Jermain Defoe. Hehe, now that's funny.

Tom Carroll was involved in all three goals last night, fed Bale for the first, lovely pass to Defoe for the second and calm controlled long pass up the line to Adebayor to start the move for the third, he could have whacked it bit he didn't, he saw he was in space and had time down near the corner flag, looked up saw the pass and made it.
What does that mean? Well it means that he is one of those rare players who makes himself space and see and plays the pass. I'm sure I wrote after seeing for the first time last year that he always makes himself available and is aware of where everyone is and what his options are even before he has received the ball; in short he has a footballing brain and that is sadly a rare thing and I saw that again last night.
My fear for him was whether he has the build for top flight football but I fear less after last night.
Is he as good as Modric? No, is he as good as Modric was at 19 & 20 I don't know as I didn't see Modric then, will he be as good as Modric at 26, I don't know but it is perfectly possible and if he progresses as he has done then perfectly probable but what I do know is that if he'd been Spanish and we'd bought him this summer he'd be getting better reviews than some on here.
He is potentially as good as or better than Modric if that I am convinced, lets hope he fulfills that potential.

Did you not see us against Wigan last week then? ;)

Ha true enough! But seriously, that was definitely one of the weakest central midfields that has been here in recent years. The big test will be against premier league opposition, and I for one can't wait to see how he (Carroll) comes up against the greater pace and physicality.

Oh yeah totally agree, Maribor were not a great team, as you say he needs to be tested against PL teams properly.

He won't get as much time to pick his pass against superior opposition. Would like to see how he copes when he is having his toes stood upon by Yaya. That said, an impressive performance last night!
