The same stadium which from post to post switches between evidence that we're a well run club because of the fantastic deal we did with the loans which is simultaneously the reason we had no choice but to turn our back on English Football because of the debt involved.
12 months of sporting events (including NFL) as well as concerts will paint a totally different picture.

I agree mate, which leads me to believe that the stadium wasn't the reason we were involved in this league and there were different motives.

Hold on, people were saying the new stadium would allow us to compete. Them goalposts must be dizzy from all that moving about :D

It hasn’t even been open for a full season with fans in attendance (or accounting period if you’re DL) yet. Let’s give it a chance to find out.

I really think that a lot of it came down to a desire not to be left behind in the same way that we were back in the 90s.

I just don't get some of the things people are saying, none of it addresses the actual thing, they are excuses for rank poor and unacceptable behaviour. You can't shit on the club and it's fans and get away with it. Football is getting worse and worse by the year and every club, the FA, UEFA, all of them have sat back and let it happen, but none of that, none of it, excuses this. This has now kickstarted what we all hope is the momentum for change and I hope it's taken. Sitting back and allowing them to get away with it shouldn't even be on the table and if that means Levy's head, meh, I can live with that. And that's talking about the game in general, not to mention our clubs reputation.

All IMO of course, I hope no offence was taken, none was meant :D

I am massively offended by something but will let you know when I work out what it is. I agree ESL was a joke. However, Levy's role is to make these decisions. If he took it to the fans then it opens up the whole process and these deals are usually done behind closed doors plus people would legitimately question why are we in elite section. Whilst I agree ESL is wrong, if it happens then we need to be part of it. Unfortunately, football is a business now so we need to make sure we adapt.

If Levy is clever he knows he needs to make one hell of a gesture and back the next manager properly. If he genuinely cares about the fans he will give me an executive box free of charge.

You would think listening to SKY that the proposals have no merits at all. Technology has reached the point where clubs can stream direct off their websites. Tottenham has 180M fans world wide. A subscription of only £1 per game has the potential to bring in £180M per match. Of course not everyone would subscribe. With a bit of syndication between the clubs (and a few decent contracted pundits) you could easily create a viewing experience better than we have, and the revenue potential is enormous. Then there is the opportunity to weaken the shackles of the lamentable and corrupt UEFA and FIFA. No wonder the vitriol from UEFA/FIFA/SKY? premier league. This move threatens their lousy greedy feeding snouts.

Im not in favour of dismantling the Premier League, as it is beautifully balanced. Teams in the bottom of the league are fighting to avoid relegation, mid table teams fight for UEFA, top 1/4 teams fight for champions league, top 3 fight for the title. There are very few matches where something is not at stake.

I don't think we should criticise the Tottenham Board. Success on the field is inextricable linked to the overall financial success of the club. This would have been very lucrative had it worked out. So its not black and white. It will take something disruptive to sort out FIFA & UEFA - as they will never do it themselves. The coverage from SKY is lazy and complacent (BT a little better) - and they need a poke in the eye. This proposal had merits....and some serious problems.

180 million fans? No chance surely?
I’d struggle to believe there’s more than 1.8 million.

I seem to be the lone voice in the wilderness. Levy was damned that he did and would have been damned if he didn't, if the ESL had gone on to be a success leaving us on the outside. Shit happened! Lessons learned! Get a grip and lets move on. Until someone can prove to me that Levy didn't have the club's interest at heart, all be it a clumsy and ill conceived idea, I will still by him as our Chairman.
This post deserves all the trophies!!!!!

I know the ESL is flawed and unpopular, but it would have been incompetent for the board not to have joined up given the chance

Being “principled” at board level would have seen the ESL formed anyway with 11 instead of 12 members...

Not sure what the option was other than to join. Exclude ourselves from the top table on principle? That would be cause for resignation...

You don't know that. It's possible that having one club being 'principled' might have had an effect on another club which might have had similar concerns and was wobbling/unsure. All it took was one to withdraw and the the rest followed.

Do you think we were the one club that would cause the dominoes to fall?

I don’t think we have that much influence over the club game personally
