Considering Poyet was with us as a player and as part of the managerial setup, he knows what is expected from both angles and the rapport needed with Daniel Levy.

If he continues this upward trajectory in his career and takes Brighton up then surely he has to be considered as a viable candidate.

I really can't see us 'doing a Shearer', let alone with someone who wasn't a very good/popular player for us.

If we go down the boot-room approach (which we shouldn't, because it's really a bad idea), Houghton and Poyet are surely far far better qualified. Or even Inglethorpe, who has some (and successful) managerial experience.

Couldn't you ask Gus? Or isn't he talking to you any more?

First of all he's managing Wigan, and secondaly he has got them playing some lovely football at times. I think those ideas and imagination would be welcomed here with some genuine quality at his disposal.

Yes he's inexperienced but certainly has a lot more experience than Tim Sherwood in his own right, albeit not directly at Tottenham if Sherwood is being groomed.

The two seasons before Martinez took over Wigan finished 14th and 11th.
After Martinez Wigan finished 16th and 16th, in the four seasons before his appointment they only finished below that once. Wigan are not particularly over preforming as it is and Martinez has failed to replace key players who had left, something in which Bruce thrived. I like what Martinez is doing at Wigan it is just he is unproven and is simply not ready for a club of our size. I would rather Sherwood was given a chance if we choose to go down that route, he knows how the club works and its current system, and he will not destabilize the club in a way Martinez might.

Oyster-Eyes if we want an Everton-style borefest. City fans hated Sparky, thought he was a clueless idiot. Poyet's far too in with Kemsley, 'Mr Fixit' Jimenez and Wise, as well as being tainted by association with Juanque.

For fuck's sake-we're really scraping the barrel for ideas round here. Only consolation is that the clamour for Coyle is but a dim and distant memory. Suggestions of Moyes and Hughes fill me with a sense of horror. I know Harry's a pain in the arse but Jesus...

Strange no one has really mentioned Clive Allen as yet, surely if we are gonna promote within he would be top of the list wouldn't he....?

Personally speaking I think DL will go for the experience route, i.e. Ancelloti/Moyes/etc, but with a DOF above him.

I'm all for a promotion as a first team coach but not manager. Too big a jump

I have no doubt in my my mind that Levy will go for an experienced PL manager after Harry. Sherwood will need to move to build up his experience.

I'm all for promoting from within, if the club feels his ready in future to take up the realm... jolly good.

Support him if he's given the job,
no one here have a clue about his qualities and how he'll do.
Neither Guardiola or VIllas Boas would came through at Tottenham,
as supporters demand a name. Just let those in charge make the decision,
and be behind them 100%. Results will show if it was a good appointment or not.

The thing with Guardiola is he is a club legend at Barca, a part of the famous Barca side from the early 90's so he was always going to get some time to bed in (as it happens he didn't need it.)

The closest player we have at our club that is seen in the dame light as Guardiola is Ledley King and I am not sure he is really manager material.

I think a few of you are being a tad harsh to Sherwood here. We actually don't know how he is as a coach but when I have heard him talk, he does talk a good game. He seems to have been given the role of bringing through the youngsters in the NextGen series, he snapped up Coulibally rather quickly when he starred at the recent youth tournament. You never know, he coukd be very good, but let's just go for another nane avian like we always do. You know, someone like Ancelotti who was great at bringing the youngsters through at Milan!

As for "Deadwood", the best players in the world don't generally make the best managers

I'd just love it, for Ledley King to manage Spurs one day (he should be groomed), IMO its a big disgraces in the 21 century not enough Black Mangers/Coaches are in the game.

I understand what you're saying regarding Sherwood being familiar with the inner workings here but the fact remains that Martinez has direct experience in management at this level, ie being solely responsibile for his own decisions, Sherwood has not.

Just to caveat that, I'm not saying he shouldn't be afforded the opportunity, more that he has no direct experience whatsoever and perhaps should work his way up the managerial chain before having a go here.

what major teams have promoted and nurtured? only one i can think of is Barcelona who have many world class players

Ancelotti or Moyes will be next for us

Yet the one that did do this, provided a platform for continuity that helped them. I don't think we should follow the people doing it the silly way, we should follow the ones that provide a good example.

I wonder whether Levy will look to resort back to a DoF setup in which case will influence who will be our next manager/head coach.

I think in a strange way, Ledley's injury problems might end up benefitting him as a coach. I mean, we've all heard how he keeps fit by swimming in DL's pool & gym work but also watches the training sessions to see how the players move & how he would interact with them in a match situation. Its difficult to say if he has the qualities for management but the level of analysis that is required for him to play as well as he does for us on a Saturday at least suggests a top class coach in the making.

What have Jimmy Anderson, Bill Nicholson, Keith Burkinshaw, Peter Shreeve and Martin Jol got in common?

Change of pace and a deadly inswinging yorker? :shifty:

Yup, it seems clear that Sherwood has:

- A good eye for young talent
- Probably a good eye for talent, full stop
- Can motivate a team
- Can appreciate and articulate tactics
- Can get a side to follow those tactics
- Is presentable and professional
- Is qualified
- Has won trophies as a player
- Has played with and against many of the world's best players during the Premier League era
- An appreciation for Spurs the club

All massives in his favour.

However, seeing as I (and some other) Spurs fans will always remember that time he refused to celebrate scoring the winning goal in the NLD as he is an Arsenal fan, I seriously doubt our fans would be supportive. Christ, we're bad enough with Redknapp.
