Tell someone who cares...

The whole site cares that we have a paceless strike force.

Must be nice to coast along with shit in your eyes and a lack of ambition.

Right you two. Wind your necks in a little bit please.

Everyone is annoyed at what happened last night but letting discussion descend into playground bitching won't help anyone.

Besides this isn't a thread to discuss how quick JD is

You're going so off track I think you could do with a sat nav to find your way back.

He's the quickest of our four forwards (and the quickest player on the bench) so as a substitution to inject a bit of speed, no matter how minutely insignificant you insist it is, he was the best option. You're full of criticism for what Mr Pink and I have to say but have absolutely nothing constructive to add to the debate. Grow up.

I don't think we needed to get close to them. We held a good line, 2 banks of 4 and frustrated them. We almost looked Italian!! True we didn't keep the ball that well but defensively we were sound.
I honestly thought (especially over 2 legs) we looked very decent against a seasoned Euro side.
Last night is a different matter; I can't judge us when we only had 10 men. Madrid are certainly a step on from AC though.

In hindsight I would agree, over the two legs against Milan we looked 'very decent'. Unfortunatly Milan are no longer the Milan of years gone by. So being 'very decent' against Milan translates to being 'not good enough' against Madrid.

Or at least that how it appears to me.

Defoe cant tackle, cant hold the ball up, cant pass and cant head yet in his wisdom red though he would be triffic at holding the ball up and buying us some breathing space. It was a poor substitution.

Time for corluka to go any defender knows you don't head the ball straight back into the middle it's schoolboy stuff bang 3-0 tie over yet he gets lauded as some sort of super defender

Well then you and I disagree over the motive behind the substitution. At 1-0 down, we were still in with a shot if we kept it tight but caught them on the counter - I think Defoe was brought on for his (obviously nonexistent) pace and to get behind their defence, as Bale was the only one looking close to doing this in the first half.

So, one mistake in one game against the biggest team in the world while playing with 10 men is reason to get rid of a player?

Just a shame that our quickest striker is still twice as slow as their quickest centre half.

It kind of defeats the purpose of bringing on pace to get in behind them.

He did hold the ball up three of four times actually, surprisingly well considering how rubbish he can be at it.

Defoe did far better than i thought he would've. If his pass to Bale hadn't been under-hit on a break-away I'm certain Bale would've scored.

Ray Wilkins, who is the best pundit Sky have ever had and demonstrated why again last night, gave Defoe a lot of praise at his managing to occupy the Madrid defence on a few occassions and so give us a little breathing space.

VDV did very little last night. I completely understood the substitution, but the whole team needed to push out.

What I didn't understand was the messing about in defence after Charlie was injured, which disrupted the whole team.

He said he was the quickest in his family to illustrate the fact that just because Defoe is the quickest striker we have it doesn't mean he's quick at all. Just that they're all pretty slow.

Exactly the point I've been making about us pushing out, it was clearly done for this very purpose.

He did hold the ball up a few times and did so relatively well but we were tiring as a team, understandably so, as the second half went on and this affects people's conclusions on each half.

Defoe was the right player to bring on, totally agree with you.

Appreciate what he has done for us but at the moment he seems to have taken his eye off the ball either through the England job or/and the tax stuff and it is rubbing off on the players, they have lost their mojo and we are drifting without leadership, Harry has made a series of frankly bizarre tactics and formations recently not to mention his dithering over new players in Jan.

Time for a younger hungrier manager ?

I don't think Crouch getting 2 absolutly brain-dead bookings was anything to do with the England Job, or Tax issues

He got 2 bookings in the Fulham FA Cup game, against Wigan, against West Ham, against Blackpool, against Wolves ? like has been said repeatedly last night is almost irrelevant it is just Harry had the benefit of the doubt as we were still in the CL.

I didnt hear what Wilkins said but I did watch the game. Personally at half time, well actually 10 to 15 mins after half time I would have taken vdv off and brought on Bassong. I would have played Bale up front in a 4 4 1 with Modic the outlet player. I also wouldnt have let the players defend on the six yard line. It was crazy. Like watching a practice game for attackers.

That's what he was implying yeah. The general point he was making was just because someone is the fastest in one defined group, it doesn't make them fast full stop.
