That double deal is too good to turn down. I've stated my concerns about Alderweireld's technique previously, but paying 15m for Eriksen and Toby would be incredible business. Eriksen is better than Pjanic and we would be getting Toby in the deal as well while Pjanic is rumored to be worth 15m.

A thing to note is the Director for Ajax said the offer was for Toby, not Eriksen.

I wonder what our order of preference is for CB. I assume that Chiriches is above Alderweireld, but we have also had a French CB mentioned which could be Sakho or Rami and then there is Ilori and Otamendi.

Meh, wouldn't be too fussed if he went there. He'd be alright for 4th choice but we could do better with Sakho, Chiriches & Otamendi. Sakho would be my choice, he's said recently he wants to leave P$G.

Trouble is convincing Sakho he'll get the starts beside Verts.

I guess a little competition with Kaboul wouldn't hurt, but I'd guess he'd be looking for a side where he would be the clear starter first.

Just a note: It appears both Alderweireld and Eriksen are starting for Ajax today against AZ Alkmaar. Even if there was an offer on the table, they probably would have started anyway as it's a pretty important match.

The positive about targetting Alderweireld rather than better CB's is that he would clearly be a cover ooption for both CB and RB rather than a first choice and that by extension must mean the medical staff are happy that Eunice's injury won't have any medium/ long term impact

Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has welcomed the interest of Spartak Moscow after the Russian club made an offer for the Belgium international.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to the Barclays Premier League with Everton and Tottenham among those apparently interested.

However, Spartak appeared to have moved to the head of the field with a reported offer of 7million euros (£6million) and Alderweireld - whose contract with Ajax runs out next summer - has made his interest clear.

He told De Telegraaf: "I now understand that they have made Ajax an offer for me.

"Only when the clubs are granted permission (to talk to me) will I think.

"I want to focus first on Belgium-France on Wednesday."

He added: "I've always said that I will seriously look at each option. Those who know me, know that I will never choose just for the money but for the image and history of the team."

Then, if we were an option, it'd be us surely?

From the Daily Shart so bucket of salt and all that....

Tottenham in 'preliminary' stage of Toby Alderweireld bid

TOTTENHAM are in the preliminary stages of securing a deal for Ajax star Toby Alderweireld.
That's according to the Belgian star's father Vic, who also revealed Spartak Moscow were currently locked in negotiations with the Dutch champs.

He was quoted by Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad as saying: "Both teams are negotiating.
"If they come to an agreement, then we go around the table.

"After the weekend we will sit down together anyway to scroll through his options.
"About ten days ago we heard through the grapevine that Tottenham would take anything, but that's just preliminary. "
Both Everton and Liverpool are thought to be keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, who has one year left on his contract.

Alderweireld made 45 appearances last season scoring four times as he and Ajax secured their third successive league title.

What does he mean Tottenham would take anything? As in we're after signing anybody that's available? Assume it's a mistranslation of some form.
