I know this lad is highly rated, as suggested by the clubs supposedly scouting him, and I know a couple of my football crazy (non-spurs) mates rate him, but I have a few concerns.

1) weren't the Swansea fans really fed up with him around the time we played them?
2) He seems to be very easy to dribble past, in fact is one of the worst in the PL at that stat.
3) I have a feeling he is right footed, which isn't ideal (could be well off on that one)

Still would imagine him being an upgrade on those but those above will be nagging doubts for me...

I think Davies is decent, better than Rose at least. He is nothing on the likes of Shaw but we have to be realistic. There's plenty of LBs we'd like 2 see but we have to be realistic. He is better than Rose, wouldn't cost a fortune and has time 2 improve. I'd be relatively happy 2 sign him

I don't think he is anything special to be honest. Whilst he is still young admittedly, his one-on-one defending is worse than any of the fullbacks we currently have in our squad, and I'm not exactly impressed with what our guys do.

I see him as a decent enough full back but he's not blessed with pace ... Lennon who's lost a yard of pace still raped him when we won 3-1 at Swansea.

If we're looking at playing the likes of Lamela and Eriksen as part of a front 3 then we need full backs who are pretty quick. We've got Walker on the right and need the equivalent on the left pace wise.

His passing completion rate is due to Swansea's philosophy and his average passing length is only 17m, lower than Shaw's, Rose's, and BAE's. While he creates roughly the same amount of chances as Shaw and BAE he can't beat an opposite Full Back and his take-on rate is lower than Shaw's, Rose's, Baines' and BAE's. He wins about the same amount of tackles on average as Shaw but this stat is beaten by Rose! His defense score is negative, via Squawka, and he was dribbled past more than any other LB last season. There's room for development at 20 years old but I wouldn't be happy spending £10 million on him, better the devil you know etc. He's never really shone whenever I've watched Swansea (little thought that be) and hardly anyone is ever linked with him, in all honesty, I feel like the only reason we've been linked with him is because journo's have been scrolling through a load of our Tweeters.

Again, another lad who i purchased on FM14, cost me about £10m - turned in a stellar couple of seasons, then i sold him to United for £32m as a 21 year old, then instantly regretted it as i had to go the rest of the season with Naughton, who is gash in that game.

In the real world, i like him because he's not a headline grabber and that, especially in defenders, is what i like. It means he doesn't do anything spectacular, he does his job and does it well enough that no-one has felt the need to bring up any weaknesses he has. This is a good sign, he's young, plays in a spot that we need to fill - the only thing i would note is that he is much more the old fashioned full back, not so much the wing back that we often appear to want overlapping. I obviously couldn't guess what Dochtor Poch intends to do, but with so many attack minded midfielders i expect they'd quite like someone who can both supply and erase much of the need for them to contribute defensively on the flanks.

(If you can't guess, i don't like the wing back style, much prefer flat four and wingers playing from deep)

I always have a problem with such detailed statistics with regards to young players who have only really run out in specific formations with one team - stick him in a slightly different line up and he could shine, he could bomb, but until we have something to compare it to, this information in these circumstances don't give a fair impression of anyones future, imo.

If you want to play him as an old-fashioned FB we're going to have issues, if his sole job is to defend, he's going to get torn apart by opposition players as well as us. He's not the best defensively and with so little experience he really doesn't justify this rumored £10 million fee. If he went to Spurs he could develop well with better coaching and facilities but he's so far behind defensively atm I feel it would take too long for him to strengthen and we'd just sell him or condemn him. I feel he's benefited from Swansea's philosophy, short, quick passing which doesn't demand too much from Swansea's players technically except for them to work well positionally. No one from Swansea is particularly singled out as a weak link, as they are a mid-table team and have the excuse of mediocre players playing a foreign style, when it works well, players like Bony clearly shine, and then you get average players such as Williams and Dyer being linked with big moves which never happen. I just feel like we're wasting £10 million on the guy in a position we really need to get right, otherwise we might as well just stick with Rose and Benoit and Fryers, all have their own issues but neither has any real advantage over the other and I don't feel like Davies has any advantage over these guys apart from his age, but that's cancelled out by the ridiculous fee.

However I can never really tell if that's my real opinion or if I'd like him more if he was Portuguese or Brazilian and his name was Benzi de Silva. :cautious:

Edit: I like the kid and it's not like I think he's a terrible player it's just I can't for the life of me see why some of our fans would be happy for us to spend £10 million on him and act like's he's the long awaited answer to our LB issues.

He's definitely left footed.

The rest of your points stand though.

Daily Fail said he was being chased by A Madrid, Man C, Liverpool and Arsenal in April lol

Better players out there. We need a rising star who won't cost £30m ... someone with raw talent who you think can bring something new to the game or produce something special. Davies is just another average player.

As previously mentioned, we should be looking at Alex Sandro (23-Porto), Dodo (22-Roma), Rodriguez (21-Wolsburg), Boilesen (22-Ajax), Bruno Martins Indi (22-Feyenoord), Umtiti (21-Lyon), Digne (20-PSG),

or other decent left backs such as Coke (27-Sevilla), Radu (27-Lazio),

The same approach should apply to other positions, for example Redmond would be an excellent young addition and he'll be fairly cheap.

Tbh, im actually looking forward to seeing what impact Poch can have on Fryers. He has already shown he's the best LB at our club, which isnt hard, but still...

Fryers is also very much not a wingback, and it's arguable his best position isn't even fullback. I think Poch's arrival will most likely push Fryers towards developing as a CB.

I was impressed by Fryers last season. I think he definitely has a future as a solid squad contributor at minimum. I'd agree CB seems to be his future, though.

My 90-yr old diabetic Granny w/ a quadruple bypass & CHF (g*d bless her) would've been the best LB at our club this past season. :sneaky::p
