it's easier to have "good positional sense" when you rarely venture across the halfway line though. a lot of this positional sense criticism aimed at rose is people seeing him get caught upfield when he's trying to contribute to our attacking game.

That's always an easy excuse that he can't be in two places at once, but Rose is often guilty of dawdling about and not even trying to get back in position after a forward run, but worse still when he is back he still often looks clueless of where he should be to hold up or tackle a player, he also seems totally clueless about shepherding a player away from more dangerous areas and far too often he attempts tackles from really poor positions.

It's not just the 'getting caught upfield' element though. It's the gentle jog back while we're getting torn apart in his area of the pitch. I swear at times he still thinks he's a LW. A dedicated LB will be a big upgrade IMO, instead of a converted winger who seems disinterested in defending.

It wasn't meant as a criticism of Rose. Just pointing out how inadequate statistics often are as a basis for comparing players, as you demonstrate in your own post too.

Sky Sports saying fee is £8million. I suspect we'll get an announcement on Monday barring any hitches.

They must have got some tag-ons then as can't see them letting him go for that overall, 10mill sounds more relaistic in this market.

Depends what the fuck goes on with this Vorm/Siggy stuff. I'm getting confused now.

Ben Davies flies to Seattle to finalise £10million move from Swansea City to Tottenham Hotspur
Defender will be confirmed as Mauricio Pochettino's first signing of the summer in the next few days

Swansea City
defender Ben Davies has flown to Seattle to finalise his £10million move to Tottenham Hotspur .

Davies jetted out to join the Spurs squad on their pre-season training camp and will be confirmed as Mauricio Pochettino's first signing of the summer in the next few days.

Swansea finally thrashed out a deal for the Wales international with Spurs on Friday and the 21-year-old's move could earn the Welsh club a potential £12million after add-ons.

Liverpool had an offer rejected for Davies early last week and were considering an improved bid due to Brendan Rodgers's growing frustration over his pursuit of Sevilla's Alberto Moreno.

But Davies told Swansea he was keen to join Pochettino at Spurs as he believes he will have a better chance of regular first-team football with the north Londoners.

Like I thought, not quite as clear cut as Liverpool refusing to put in a higher bid - he was leaning towards wanting to come here anyway.

Here's the thing, they don't give stats about the number of times full backs are out of position so don't get dribbled around, without that the stats are pretty meaningless. You can have one guy who gets dribbled round 55 times out of 100 but he is there for every occasion and another who gets dribbled round 30 times in 50 but is out of position on another 50 occasions meaning the winger hasn't even got to try and dribble so in effect the winger or attacker gets into dangerous positions 80 times compared to 55 for the other guy

To me stats can paint so many distorted pictures it's not a good idea to place any faith in them at all
Yet statistics are a big foundation for transfer decisions. Go figure...
