If you had to choose a Spurs team made up of players 21 and under, what would it be?

Mine would be..

Oscar Jansson (19)
Kyle Naughton (21)..Kyle Walker (19)..Steven Caulker (18 )..Gareth Bale (20)
G.Dos Santos (20)..Jake Livermore (20)..John Bostock (17)..Danny Rose (19)
Adel Taarabt (20)
Jonathan Obika (19)

I'd love to see a team like this take on the Arsenal youngsters in the Carling Cup this season (although the loans would make it difficult).

Would be even better if you put Mason in there ahead of either Taarabt or Bostock

probably, not that they're more talented or not but they have so much more premiership experience.

Arsenal's youngsters would probably piss all over that team.

Agreed, though I doubt if many of them (and ours) will ever make it in the PL, most likely only two or three will come through. I've been impressed by some of West Ham's and Everton's youngsters too - rather importantly, they are getting some game time in the league or in the cups. Even Liverpool seem to have developed a good young player in Insua.

Seeing England U19s reminded me that we probably overrate most of our English prospects though. We were outclassed by foreign sides (our awful display against Germany comes to mind in particular), though perhaps it just wasn't our day.

Arsenals youngsters did destroy our youths twice last season, but our team was made up of mainly 1st years and theirs of mainly 2nd years, hence why all of their players were quite a bit larger than ours (and I don't mean height!).

Having said that, Livermore and Rose were not there, neither ware Giovani or Bale, and we were yet to sign Naughton.

Yeah and Walcott, Denilson, Traore, Vela, Ramsay etc didn't play for that Arsenal team.

Some of their best prospects were on loan though, I don't recall Ramsey or Merida playing. And obviously the likes of Walcott, Denilson, Vela etc weren't playing.

I think he's being overhyped, or rather just has yet to fulfill the hype - needs to play more PL games before we can actually fairly judge him, same for every other player. Because of his reputation, people always notice everything he does well and get excited about it, but from the admittedly few games I've seen of their academy, Coquelin, Frimpong, and JET have had some better games. Wilshere seems the likeliest bet to be fast-tracked into their first team though.

I think I phrased my comment badly. The crux was meant to be the fact that we got battered, and the fact that they were a year further in their development, not the missing players. Sorry.

Wilshire got called up to the U21s (obviously) before Bostock, but they played together in the lower age groups.

only 1 U21 cap so far, but then again, he's only 17 still.

bostock hasn't impressed in our youth team so i don't understand why he gets called up when we have better-performing players who get ignored. makes me think too much is based on reputation.

I think BBLG has a good point about how long these lads have been playing. We're still relatively early in our Youth set up compared to Arsenals which has been going for years. We're on the right path now, and in about 5 years i think we could be on a similar level to Arsenal as far as youth players go.

everything will be different once the 5player rule come in effect. arsenal will struggle with their youth set up.
