Top teams have been pants against Tier 2 League Cup opponents in Round 1 forever. It's just the way it is. I can't remember, but I'd bet we had several of these kinds of games in our last two LC wins.

Our last LC win was 5-0 vs Gillingham before losing to Liverpool in the 4th round last year

I dont think klopp gives a shit. Not many PL managers do at this stage, If the reserves get them through then they might take it seriously in the later rounds. Im suprised poch put such a strong side tbh.
We had three players (maybe 4 at a push) who would get into our strongest side atm. I wouldn't say the side side was that strong. Liverpool were playing Coutinho, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wijanaldum, Robertson and Klavan. All players who may not be first teamers but are all in competition for a starting place. We had Verts, Trippier, Winks (arguebly), Dembele, Son, Alli and somehow Sissoko who are competing for starting positions. So I'd say the strength of the core team is roughly the same.

The main difference is Liverpool were playing a much better side than we were.

How did Walker-Peters play at left back.

Would he be a better option than playing Trippier out of position on the left?

But who remember the Wycombe and Aston Villa games last season in the FA cup?

The Aston Villa game seems to have many similarities with today.

Ultimately we are through to the next round. Games like the Swansea game and today happen all the time, not just to spurs but many many teams. I think our problem in these games is psychological. Namely we don't have the same motivation, we think the result will just come. I think the slowness of our play is also built into that. Its the mentality to keep calm and slowly wait for the chances to come. Mind another problem against Swansea was the whole mess with the fullbacks. If we had two functioning fullbacks in position I think we would of won. Same if we had an actual midfielder instead of Sissoko.

On another point. Often teams get praised for grinding out victories like that against deep teams, often its called a controlled performance. The thing is most of time people and pundits build a narrative and push that narrative. The whole wembley thing is a narrative using very selected statistics and largely does not reflect our performances there which generally been very good ever since the CSKA game. Though our finishing in the stadium has been really really poor.

However, having said that the fact that it is now part of a narrative really does get in players heads, it gets in fans heads and does have a real impact on how we play. Ultimately it doesn't matter if we win the next PL game until people stop talking about a wembley hoodoo it will continue to exist.

Foyth looked very good, extemely classy and smooth on the ball. Made a couple of exciting forward runs too. Still a kid and you could tell he's not fully developed physically, but looks like he's got all the tools.

Llorente looked very slow with a poor first touch to be perfectly honest.
Oh dear, has our backup striker curse struck again.... ;)

Did anyone catch Big Vic streaming live on instagram before the game? Cool touch. Was hoping he would stream the whole game.

How quick/slow is Foyth? That's the only negative I remember Tim Vickery (who I think knows his stuff) mentioning.

Certainly not rapid, was in danger of being outpaced a couple of times, but never actually got caught out and once managed to use his body well to move the striker away from the goal even though he was losing the race.

I hugely rate him but he was well off the pace, nowhere near fitness. There was a moment in the second half though where I did find myself pining for Janssen just for a moment!
