Not sure how this specifically relates to my post, but I agree. Probably because they were in a line-up not dissimilar to one that was deemed suitable to face Colchester in the cup (with the notable exception of our only striker):

Vorm, Trippier, Dier, Wimmer, Davies, Bentaleb, Carroll, Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli, Kane

We played two better players tonight with Lloris and Alderweireld, but rested two of the strongest players in that Colchester line-up in the shape of Eriksen and Kane. Sums up how seriously we took the tie.
It wasn't meant to relate to your post in particular, sorry. It just happened to be a fair place to place the comment.

Kane, Eriksen, Dembele? They'd make a huge difference.
They would make a difference but not enough difference. The gap is huge, apart from being gifted a goal we never looked like scoring, were as they looked like scoring every time they broke forward. Kane, Dembele and Eriksen are not world class, Dortmund have several world class. To compete you need similar quality, we simply haven't got it.

Must say I really like the BVB model, fast on the counter, excellent finishers and they taught us how the high press should be done.....

Their fans are nuts too, never heard such support before, had a headache by halftime from their bleedin drums :shifty:

Nope. BD are clearly a level above us in a few departments. We'll get there though.
It will be interesting to reflect in another say 12 months time.

This time last year we struggled to beat the 5th best team in Italy Florentina and came 5th in the league with a mess of a squad.
This year we outplayed that same Florentina team over 2 legs and are currently 2nd in the league, we got completely outplayed by what for me is the 4/5th best team in Europe, so exactly like you say this is the next level we need to aspire to.

This depends on who we can bring in and if Potch and co have learnt enough from this match as to how to improve tactically and personnel wise.

We shall see... It was certainly eye-opening just how far away from them we were, never seen a team contain us so well whilst also looking like they could score every time they attack.

Worst thing was, the poor guys in the wheelchairs were parked right in front of the Dortmund drums, bare chested hairy German dudes, waving 20' flags......why put them there FFS? Probably half deaf now too :cautious:

To be fair though, that team last week did exactly what Poch, the club (and being totally honest, me) meant it to do......go out of the Europa League.

I think they would of beaten us anyway, but we are fresher for not playing some first teamers AND it finishes here. 8 massive games left, all with decent recovery and preparation time between them.

Occasionally Pochettino's selections are mystifying. Having chosen a weak team for the first leg to save players for the most out of form teams on the Sunday, we unsurprisingly got crushed. The tie was over. He has signified by his selections that the league was all that matters.

So with us playing a team on Sunday who are playing with some confidence and getting outstanding results, obviously we would keep our players fresh for Sunday ? Might as well lose 5-0 --as 2-1 right ? Wrong ! We choose not our strongest team but stronger than the first leg and risked fatigue and injury amongst some of our key players. The hopeless position in the tie was crying out for Vorm, Bentaleb, Carter Vickers, Carroll , Onomah and Winks. We did not need to play Lloris, Alderweireld, Alli, Lamela . So of course we lost anyway but more importantly did not keep enough of our key players fresh for Sunday. I hope we don't regret that.

I believe this spurs team has a core of 5 players (Lloris, Toby, Erikson, Dembele and Kane) and if those 5 are in the team, we will trouble or beat any team going round. I know a lot of people have reservations with Erikson - but he is integral to our doing well. I however am glad we lost, and that 3 of those 5 were not used. The other issue here is the players minds are on the league (I can't blame them) - If we win the league this year, I would fully expect us to win a Cup next year as well.

the scary thing is Bayern munich beat this lot 5-0 in there domestic league.
I thought their defence is not that water-tight as it makes up to be.. they focus very much in the middle of the park to the front.. that is why they need to pass the balls very very quick to the middle.. from then on, their drills very much carry them forward and becomes almost unstoppable.. they seldom ping the balls around in their own third and back to goalkeeper like we sometimes so irritably do..

at one point our midfield actually controlled the momentum and initiative in the middle abit with some crisp and quick passings.. I think that was before Aubameyang scored the first goal.. that period we had good possession, and that period even Aubameyang and Reus gotta stay deeper in the middle to deny us space so as we could lose the balls much easier for them to counter with pace.. Aubameyang hardly dropped that deep and if he did, we were doing something right.. too bad that did not last and he scored and kinda K.O our confidence in the middle then.. kudos to Mason and Dier last night, they really did quite well against them without losing the balls as much as I expected.. great control and release especially from Mason..

so, swarm their final third fast enough, and get their defence nervous, teams stand a chance in firing some shots in.. teams like Bayern had no problem in doing that especially with their quick and technical players.. but be confident like them, give it a go, move the balls quicker in the middle to the front, stop dilly dallying and playing at the back like us, they can be contained..

I can take the positives from last night...
Toby and Eric were excellent in my book and Eric showed why he should be in the England first 11 for me. Shame Toby isn't English...

It also highlights areas we do need to improve. Whilst I genuinely don't dislike any player, I do think we need to consider replacing the likes of Chadli. He is tidy, but he lacks the intensity to play at this level.

Son needs another season, but it does highlight for me how well Lamella has done to improve (He just needs to cut out the silly yellow cards).

So we know where we want to get to... Though it does alas remind us that the EPL whilst exciting, doesn't have a team capable to compete at the top in Europe.

Interesting to read comments about people leaving early last night, I would ordinarily be disappointed so many people left when they did but to be honest last night people only really took their cue from Pochottino, he wasn't talking it that seriously so didn't need the fans to stay and do their part. Good on the ones that stayed though and the game finished with us in full voice "oh when the Spurs" which got a good response from Hugo and Dier on the final whistle.
As for Dortmund, very much like us but with speed when they break, that is, I'm sure, what Poch wants to introduce with the likes of N'jie so I'd expect some pace coming in during the summer.

No top team can afford a player who you have to think back 14 months to tell us about a good game he had

That's not what I said, I was giving an example of when chadli played well vs a top team.
Chadli has had good games this season
