BBC Live Text
Half-Time Tottenham 0-0 Fulham "A first half that could not end soon enough. It was very ordinary from both teams. The closest we came to a goal was when Gareth Bale's early header was cleared off the line by Sascha Riether."
SUBSTITUTION Clint Dempsey makes an appearance against his former club from the substitutes' bench. The Tottenham forward replaces Michael Dawson as Andre Villas-Boas changes his formation at the start of the second half.
16:10 GOAL - Tottenham 0-1 Fulham - Dimitar Berbatov (52 mins)
Seconds after Gareth Bale has a 20-yard effort saved, Fulham break and Dimitar Berbatov slides on the greasy surface to slot home a low Sascha Riether cross from the right. Very much a restrained celebration from the Bulgarian.
16:20 SUBSTITUTION - Tottenham 0-1 Fulham
Jermain Defoe on for Gylfi Sigurdsson. Defoe comes on with a note for Emmanuel Adebayor. Tactical or sweet nothings?
16:25 SUBSTITUTION - Tottenham 0-1 Fulham
Tom Carroll on for Dembele

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to return to winning ways against London rivals Fulham and boost their hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification.

Spurs have suffered two dramatic defeats this week after losing 3-2 to Liverpool in the Premier League and then going down to Inter Milan in the Europa League, although a 4-1 reverse after extra time in Italy still carried them through to the quarter-finals on away goals.

Andre Villas-Boas' side are still also in a strong position domestically despite the Anfield blip and the manager will be staying calm ahead of Sunday's home game against Fulham.

The priority for Tottenham is to grab a Champions League spot and they are currently two points ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea and seven clear of Arsenal, although both these teams have a game in hand on Spurs.

Fulham are comfortably placed in mid-table with nine games remaining and should have no reason to worry about relegation with a nine-point cushion over the drop zone.

Martin Jol's team are sure to be fresher than their opponents and raring to go at White Hart Lane, having played just two games since 9th February.

They drew 2-2 with Sunderland last time out a fortnight ago to make it three matches unbeaten, and will be hoping to finish in the top half of the table.

Tottenham:
Gareth Bale returns to the Tottenham squad for Sunday's Premier League game against Fulham after sitting out the trip to Inter Milan due to suspension.

Winger Aaron Lennon should return to the starting line-up after he came off the bench in Milan following his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Former Fulham forward Clint Dempsey (calf) is expected to be available, but defender Younes Kaboul and midfielder Sandro (both knee) are out

Fulham:
Mahamadou Diarra is a long-term absentee for Fulham with a knee problem, but Martin Jol has few other fitness concerns.

Hugo Rodallega and Urby Emanuelson will be hoping to earn places in the starting XI after coming off the substitutes' bench in the 2-2 draw with Sunderland.

Jol may also be tempted to bring in Aaron Hughes alongside Brede Hangeland at centre-back after Philippe Senderos was at fault for both goals against Sunderland.

Tottenham's Gareth Bale returns to the squad after being suspended for the midweek trip to Inter Milan.

Aaron Lennon, who came off the bench in Italy after a hamstring injury, could be back in the starting XI.

Fulham's Steve Sidwell has shaken off a knock picked up since Fulham's last match a fortnight ago and should be fit.

Mahamadou Diarra misses out with a knee injury which could sideline him for the rest of the season.

So Tottenham Hotspur's bid for European silverware remains intact - but at what cost?

Battered and bruised physically and mentally by Thursday night's San Siro experience, will there be any lingering hangover as they return their attentions to the main focus: a top-four finish in the Premier League?

Gareth Bale was suspended for the trip to Italy, while skipper Michael Dawson and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris were rested. Their fresh legs and minds could be hugely significant.

Bale's importance is staggeringly obvious and has been well documented but it's worth throwing the spotlight on the other two.

Lloris had to wait for his chance despite costing £12m, but the French number one has really proved his worth, particularly at White Hart Lane where he's only conceded seven goals in his last nine games.

How Andre Villas-Boas must shudder every time he recalls trying to sell Dawson in August. Overlooked until November, Spurs have only lost one league game with him in the starting line-up, and his recent terrific form has been rewarded with a recall to the England squad.

Defeat at Liverpool last Sunday brought an end to Tottenham's impressive 12-game unbeaten run, and two former favourites will be at the heart of Fulham's efforts to put another spanner in the works.

If manager Martin Jol can always be guaranteed a warm welcome on his return to the Lane, I'm not sure the same can be said of Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgarian failed to find the net on his three visits with Manchester United, but has scored in three of his last four games for Fulham and is clearly the main threat.

It's 10 years since Fulham last enjoyed victory at White Hart Lane, and they've only won twice on their travels this season so it's difficult to see them winning this one. However if Spurs are a bit leggy they could steal a point, leaving Chelsea and Arsenal as the real winners of this London derby.

Opta stats

Head to Head

  • Tottenham have won their last four home matches against Fulham (three in the league. one in the FA Cup). Their 2-0 win there last May guaranteed them a top-four finish - but not a place in the Champions League.
  • Fulham's last victory at White Hart Lane was back in 2003 when Barry Hayles scored twice in a 3-0 win.
  • Since then, Fulham have lost six and drawn two of their Premier League matches away at Tottenham, and have scored just one goal - that came from Clint Dempsey, who is now a Tottenham player, in a 5-1 defeat in December 2007, which was a couple of months after Spurs sacked Martin Jol, who is now the Fulham manager.
Tottenham
  • Tottenham have won four of their last five Premier League matches and have not lost at home since 3 November.
  • Spurs have failed to score in just three league games this season, and have scored more second-half goals (35) than any other club in this season's Premier League.
  • According to Opta, Tottenham have scored more goals (11) from outside the penalty area than any other side in this season's top flight.
  • Spurs have the best head-to-head record in London derby matches this season, winning five of their eight fixtures.
  • Gareth Bale has scored 10 goals in his last 11 Premier League matches. His first-ever goal for Tottenham came against Fulham in a 3-3 draw back in September 2007.
  • Tottenham haven't been awarded a penalty in the league at White Hart Lane in almost two years - since Rafael van der Vaart scored against Arsenal in April 2011.
Fulham
  • Fulham have won just once away since the end of September. That was at West Brom on New Year's Day.
  • They have yet to win in an away London derby this season (D2, L2).
  • If Premier League matches finished at half-time, Fulham would be fifth.
  • Since leaving Tottenham in 2007, Martin Jol has faced them three times as Fulham manager in the league - losing all three meetings.
  • Fulham have the worst head-to-head record in London derby matches this season, winning one of their six fixtures. They have won only one of their last 42 away league London derbies - that was the 1-0 win at QPR in February 2012.

from POTL on COYS

Ade and Benny both ok for tomrrow. Lennon out- still struggling with a tight groin- will be back after international weekend. Good progress from Kaboul should be back in 2-3 weeks. Dempsey returns to squad.

Shame about Lennon, he gives us so much more balance. However I think with a fresh Bale and a team with much to prove after mid-weeks showing, we should do them.

Vital that we start with a good tempo to our game today and well as decent pressing.

Fulham are poor away from home but still have players that can cause us damage if we only play at 60%

Lets batter these. We're more than capable of doing so.

Lets hope that as we have no lennon, AVB wont be tempted to try that weird 442 again! Siggy, Bale, Holtby and Ade/defoe will do just fine.

Yh, let's frighten them to death with the deadly attacking prowess of Defoe, Ade, Dempsey and Parker lol. More commonly known as Smallsy, Benson & Hedges and Wacko :D

Thank god for Bale the Messiah :p

Knowing Spurs we'll probably rush into a 3 goal lead, Berbatov will then score 4 goals, and then we'll score two more in injury time. Nothing like doing it the hard way.

Not keen on the 442 right now. Defoe and Ade are so out of form right now that it'd be like having 10 men with the 2 of them up front together. I think we're better off dominating the midfield and bringing Holtby in on the right.

I hope AVB doesn't bottle it by trying to accomodate the two egos of the strikers.

I really hope its not Dembele on the right with Ade and Defoe up top, please God no.

I would rather one up top with Bale in behind, Dempsey leftish - Siggy on the right.

3 points vital today! Just to make the point that this is not a request for a stream, and maybe I've been spoiled by the amount of Spurs on TV lately, but I think it's truly effed up that while a have the full Sky sports package and a subscription to ESPN there's no way I can watch the spurs game. Even a pay per view option would be something. For live football today I have to make do with the Chavskis V the chavs.

Go to the game? Would love to, but I broke my foot this week & am on crutches, so am just having a general moan.

Rant off

Agree wth you bar the Dempsey inclusion but if we start with Ade and Defoe then I'll be mighty pissed!

Even more so today, a fresh Bale will be our main source of attacking intent but we still require good movement and interchange to get us into good positions.

My thinking with Dempsey is he's been a bit better when played on the left IMO, plus he's well rested and its against his old Club. We need a fresh impetus I reckon.
