That's the 7th time in 11 league games we've failed to score from open play.

I'm gonna say this now - relegation form.
Man City, Man United and Liverpool coming soon. I'd say we'll get beaten without scoring against all of those.
Of course most of you will lambast me and it's your right to.
You can all say sorry at Christmas.

That's a fair comment, but doesn't address the first half or many of the previous games this season that we played badly in and just scraped a win. People are pissed off with bad football and we had it in spades in the first half.

There're are issues and AVB needs to sort it out or the AVB out gang are going to grow in number.

AVB is going nowhere, there is a better chance of me getting the job than AVB getting sacked. So it's time to dust ourselves down and get behind AVB & the team for City away!

The consistent problem for AVB has been the Redknapp crowd amongst fans and the press. Today, we had that prick Wright suggest that the analogy with AVB was The Emperor's New Clothes. Would he like to extend that to Pellegrino? One can waste a lot of energy trying to reason with these imbeciles.
I think that this may be a watershed moment, because AVB can use it to drop a few people like Townsend and Defoe. At present, Townsend is a squad player and he needs to think about his game. I think that come the last third of the season AVB will not rotate as much.

I couldn't agree more with every word.
There was a point in the first half when Walker was free with the ball to the right just back from the 18 yard box with three men in or on the edge of the box where anyone would have lifted the ball in instinctively yet you saw him stop himself which was clearly as instructed.
In the second half they were definitely freed up to improvise. Who was responsible for that I'm not sure
I dunno, maybe it was Gandalf? Or, just possibly, AVB?

Just my 2 cents perhaps blow off bit of steam. Have'nt read all posts so if been said..fair dues For all the positives at our club and yes patience being a big part of the new signings settling in etc But friggin hell can't we start two forwards in more games pleassssssse.Okay not saying its the be all & end all to solving everythink don't get me wrong.Still need the service..But surely couldnt be that bad could it!

possibly but I haven't seen is play like that when a goal down, or any other time, before and it was from the very first minute of the second half, I may be wrong, I'm not wrong that it was different but maybe in its significance and what it means we'll have to see.

Well, we simply must play it quicker that's for one.

The lack of LB cover has left us with a completely unbalanced and ineffective system. For this system to work both the attacking wide forwards need to be super effective and either scoring freely or creating plenty of chances for the central striker who is, I believe, exactly where he should be as a lone striker. But still none of the attackers seem to be on the same wavelength as each other. We've seen Siggy's finishing ability here and there but no pace or width and we've seen Townsend's pace and dribbling skills continually but actually very little produced for it.

Fortunately, Lennon and Lamela can provide killer speed, width and skill, and are now able to come into the team having proved their fitness and confidence respectively. We must also get Ade back into the fold and motivate him somehow. Fuck knows how at this point. Perhaps there is an atom of professionalism left in him we can appeal to given that he does still earn an emperor's fortune with us (!). But the handling of him so far, appears to be nothing short of a disaster for AVB & co. Frankly, another X against their copy-book. But what a foil a fired up Ade could be for the rest. You cannot deny his talent only the ability of coaches to get the best out of him. Actually that's true for everyone.

Anyway, I hope this result is seen as the opportunity to switch it around and not have to bruise any egos. The players have to accept they have not performed well enough either whoever's fault it is even collectively.

And I really do feel sorry for Jermain but without denigrating his talent I honestly feel he is not what we need to mix it up at the moment. He is only at best back-up for Soldado but never a partner.

Sigh....... we're not far off being good but results like this just take fun out of it.

Just back from the game read through the last couple of pages which were pretty predictable but I wonder if anybody saw it like I did. What I saw in the second half wasn't simply an improvement on the first and it wasn't people working harder and a change of tactics, it was a completely different team to every game I've seen this year, the whole tempo was twice as high we were moving it forward with quicker sharper passing and moving much more off the ball christ there were even timjes when we had two or three players in their box.
It could be one of those watershed matches, it'll be interesting to see how this pans out over the next few months.

Good to hear.
Could you give your opinion of what it was that made that difference? Cheers

3 of them will be 18, 19 & 20
Ie our league position in this form.
Said it for a while, our league position has greatly hidden how shit we've been.
It's not going to get better either. I like AVB but no matter how much he wants it to, inverted wingers don't work. It's easy to defend against.

Until he realises that we have problems.

Just watched the game after being back from work. My thoughts are much the same as everyone else's no doubt but I haven't read the thread.

On another day we would have scored 5 but this isn't going to help with confidence low. AVB needs to show what he is made of now.

Townsend needs some time out of the team. Frustrated the help out of me today. Constant poor shooting, poor passing, poor control, just generally poor. I don't mind him trying to do it all but we were dominating today so we needed a cool head out there.

Soldado didn't look sharp in the slightest and the fact he wasn't on the end of Eriksens cross early on puts pay to the "it's because the service is poor" comments. I'm struggling to work out what type of forward he is and if he is right for us. Hope it works out.

Lloris is essential, granted he can't score the goals but we wouldn't have lost today with him.

Vertonghen and Sandro are our best players, Kaboul needs to play from now on.

Subs are poor and not helping.

Our set pieces are the worst in the country and it's becoming embarrassing.

Our left side needs some identity. Lennon? Siggy? Lamela? Townsend? Eriksen? Are any of those players left wingers?

The crowd were poor today. Worse than the team. We got countered and then a keeper had a worldly. We made chances today and we played decent football in parts but the crowd booed at half time!

Lets hope now we are up against it and not expected to win that we can pull something out of the bag against city and Utd. Lose those and we will be about 10th and the pressure on AVB and the players will be at an all time high.

I'm a positive fan and I'm sure we look back at this season as a success but we need to be careful and work hard to find a working formula.

Ah excuses for this weeks game too. In 2 weeks you'll run out of reasons to cover up our dreadful, lacklustre, clueless and down right idiotic performances.

Just because he saved so many shots doesn't deflect for the fact we were, have been and are clueless on the field. Eriksen and Paulinho's misses were shocking, not great saves.

I think a lot of us need to start looking what is blindingly evident. Highest points tally and goals conceded count for nothing if you cannot score, if you look clueless and if you are too stubborn to alter your tactics when it's clear it's not right.

All those wanting Laudrup just have a look at the table.Apparently their chairman is not happy inspite of their spending spree, not using their record breaking signing Bony n insisting with Michu inspite of being injured which keeps him out for a month

Its been said they are struggling to cope with europa n gelling in so many new players

My point is that he's having the same problem as AVB n I don't see him as an upgrade.AVB isn't above criticisms but if we don't get an upgrade then whats the point of getting a manager of the same level who will make us go through the entire transition period all over again with making the team play acc to his tactics, getting rid of players he doesn't want, getting his type of players n then expecting them all to play as a team

In a side worth MILLIONS less than the one assembled at WHL. I think that Laudrup may make a better fist of our season so far. Despite not having a 30 MILLION player sat on the bench at least they managed to fucking score three times today and take a home point. We on the other hand................

He's not an upgrade on AVB he's light years ahead in tactics and making a team tick, and you can check the Trophy cabinet for evidence on that one.

Forget about two weeks and excuses, I'll wager that in a whole lifetime you won't have a coherent thought.
