The way things are going, that's not going to happen is it?!?!
If we can't beat Newcastle, even away (this is a team that couldn't manage a single goal against Aston Villa for goodness sake!) then we've seriously screwed up.

Have the players switched off now they have qualified for the champions league?

Felt like it yesterday.

Our form isn't good though. It must be good enough to get a draw there though you'd hope. I want a win obviously, don't want this form being taken into next season.

I'm positive that we can beat Newcastle. The pressure will be completely on Newcastle if they are still involved by Saturday and they seem to be seriously struggling for goals. If they have a chance of escaping relegation then they will have to come out and attack. Regardless, I don't think that their will be a hangover into next season. I'm just hoping that the lads have a good (and injury free) Euros.

We just need a point. All we needed from WBA, Chelsea, Saints and Newcastle was a combined THREE points. If we don't manage to get that, then we clearly don't deserve 2nd.

One point needed. Always hard in sport to cross the finish line. We could not keep the league title shot going but in fairness Leicester have never yielded so we have not lost the title, they won it. However second place is within our grasp and if the team can get the necessary point and cross the finish line then they will be boosted for next season.

As to why we have dropped off these last few game? I think it is a combination of others raising their games, perhaps sussing out how to play us and the pressure of a tough, hard fought campaign. Deflated after the Stamford Bridge battle I can accept that an in form team have beaten us but now we must show what we are made of and get the point needed at Newcastle.

Third at least is and advancement for us and I am convinced we are the team who have made great strides forward this season ... but oh how I would like to finish second and once again be the top dogs in London!

Exactly why is everyone suddenly losing their shit at the thought of playing fucking Newcastle, we don't even have to win to secure 2nd place ffs.

Because irrespective of opposition we have lost our shit as a team in recent weeks.

we looked bereft of ideas yesterday.

I suspect sunderland will beat everton and newcastle will be down already - not sure if that helps us or not. With the pressure off, will they be "on the beach" or relaxed and able to play their own game without fear - I honestly don't know.

the concern at the moment is that in the last 3 games, when we have needed to get a goal, we didn't look like one was coming.

now is the time for Poch to do his thing and get them into the right frame of mind for sunday.

This season has surpassed every expectation - it would be a real shame to end it on a downer.

I think that not winning the league has hit them harder than people realise. They have tried to cover it up but it can be seen in their performances. Hopefully another week will allow them to refocus and this will come through in an improved performance. The players certainly do care and will be desperate to finish above the scum.

This feels as though this season was the biggest prick-tease of all time, culminating in the humiliation of being pipped to 2nd on the last day by The Arse!! How so very Spursy indeed.

Mixed emotions though, as we've qualified for a the Champs League. So confused!

A few weeks ago I half jokingly said I was having visions of Townsend having the game of his life against us on the final day. I'm no longer joking.

I'm not sure I understand this concept of
'having nothing to play for'
Fans, to justify their obscene wages, personal pride, team pride, reputation, morale,
I could probably go on but you catch my drift.

Great season but we risk ending on a sour note which might carry forward.
How the other fans will mock,
how the pundits will shake their heads sadly and re-appraise us.
The word 'Spursy' will take on a new life
just when we thought we had buried it.
One measly point lads to put the gilt back on the ginger-bread.

Google it. I had to.

Newcastle couldn't score against Villa.

Does anyone actually take any notice of other teams or just focus on us?

Us Paxton Roaders get a lot of stick on here and rightly so most of the time but actually yesterday in the 2nd half there was a fair bit on singing trying to get the team going. Certainly in the North West section upper tier

It's been a fantastic season there is no doubt about that but the unsaid needs to be finally said. It is time for Harry Kane to step up another level, and whilst many may not like me saying this but to do this he simply has to tweak certain aspects of his game. He needs to vary his chosen options on the right occasions, if he does this he will have keepers and defenders even more on their toes, he needs to keep them guessing as to whether he will shoot or go for goal or square it or pass to players in far better positions than he is to score. There have been far too many occasions when he has let his selfishness get in the way of Spurs scoring even more goals than they have already, particularly Lamela who is usually the one who misses out on benefiting from easy tap ins or better shots on goal

He needs to reflect on these small margins of error and mix it up a little bit. For the greater good it will make him even more clinical and even more dangerous than he is now. Truly great players know when to have the eye for goal and when to be unselfish and pass to players in better positions.

I've noticed that he tends to be a little more more unselfish in the box when he plays as a front man for England than he does for Spurs and it does not make him less dangerous or clinical by slightly tempering this one option shoot or always go for goal instinct.

I'm not saying ditch the instinctive ruthless eye for goal attitude I'm simply saying mix it up a little to keep the opposition guessing.

If that had happened yesterday Lamela would have bagged at least one goal and we wouldn't be looking over our shoulders at that lot down the road, he wasn't the only one guilty of this yesterday, Erikson was guilty of not sliding it through to Son who could have had another.

To end on a positive note, you have all been great so far for a team so young and I thank all of the players and manager and coaches for giving the fans a season to savour, but a few tweaks could make things even better. COYS and come on Harry, the future is bright and it could be brighter......

Had this discussion earlier in the season. The thing is, he knows he's the only proper striker on the books and takes on the responsibility of trying to score himself rather than trying to score as a team. If he played with his head up a bit more and used other options, opponents would have to think about more than just blocking his shots and that would yield him more time and space. He's very young though and I think having another striker on the books will have him analysing his own game more - at least, that's what I hope.

Excellent, thought provoking post...and very true. Kane's link up play is generally very, very good - I'd like to see him try to create more when a player is in a better position.

Agreed. There was almost a kind of ghostly sourness about our players yesterday. They looked agitated and the urgency had gone somewhat. I think not winning the title has probably hurt our young side. I think a young person's mentality probably is "Let's get this season out of the way now...and come back and win it next year". I'm sure this has to running through/creeping in our player's minds. I'm sure they're determined to win it next season - they just want to be at the starting blocks again.

I thought for the first 20 minutes we were pretty good.

Seemed to me the equaliser along with the heat sucked the life out of us.
