Newcastle couldn't score against Villa.

Does anyone actually take any notice of other teams or just focus on us?

They also beat us at home?

Chelsea lost to Sunderland then came from 2 down against us.

Admire the confidence but complacency always bites us in the arse.

I thought for the first 20 minutes we were pretty good.

Seemed to me the equaliser along with the heat sucked the life out of us.

But the heat was there for both teams and the saints didnt suffer directly because of it.
I think we have to stop looking for excuses and except that we have stumbled the last couple of hurdles, which is largely through our own making.
If we do manage to secure second it will most likely end up in a 4-4 draw with us being 4-0 up inside 20 mins and then clinging on.

Think the team were still suffering a bit of a hangover after Chelsea. Missing Dembele and Alli was also huge.

They beat us at home last season and we beat them away, same as the season before...

We need a point and the pressure is on Newcastle to get a win, going by recent form why would we lose the match?

Yeah I totally agree with this. Just pointing out that I do think the heat affected our game which is all about high energy. Southampton pressed in parts, but mainly played on the counter attack in the second half.

If Sunderland win on Wednesday then Newcastle are already down when we play them.

Not sure if I would rather the pressure was still on them or not, as sometimes a release of pressure brings a freedom to your play (even the worst teams)

Yup, let's hope for that outcome.

At this moment in time, I'd take a 4-4 draw on Sunday under these circumstances after putting on a cheeky £10 in play bet on that outcome on 21 mins with us 4-0 up, although I'm not sure it would good for my health or my sanity watching it !!!!

If you're going to compare seasons and era's then you don't use point tallies. The league every season has different teams with various strengths and weaknesses and it's obvious this season that it was a tough league.

How can you say this season was a tough league it just was not... We have improved in many ways but some of the sides level went backwards that`s just obvious.. In my view the points tally is a good indication of our level but I accept it`s not the only indication. In my view we should have been capable of getting 80 points this season but mistakes were made with recruitment which left the squad weaker than it should have been.

the quality of the lower teams has been far higher this season - look at West Ham, Leicester, Watford (for a while) Crystal Palace (for a while), and the teams in fits and starts. Admittedly though Manu, Chelski and Liverpool have been poor.

We all know that Arse will beat Villa, but can our sorry bunch pick themselves up and get at least a point against an effing crap and pathetic Newcastle side?! Wouldn't be surprised if we lose after what's happened over the last couple of weeks. But surely they can do this one, last little thing for us long suffering fans - MUST FUNISH ABOVE THE SCUM!!!

I think that there is the problem. Winning the title was for them as much as us, but we all know there's no trophy for 2nd or 3rd, so to them it's done, either will be ok. They're not fans, they're players and they don't give 2 shits about finishing above Ar*enal. Whereas of course, we as the fans, do!

I'd rather they were down because it should mean the atmosphere is considerably flatter which negates their home advantage.

Who knows if they'll play better or worse when relegated. WBA and Chelsea decided to have the game of their lives against us when the result didn't matter either way to them.

Exactly.. 'come on lads, it's Spurs' I think is usable in alot of context no matter how good we are until we can finally lift the title.. Most, if not all, teams will surely take a gamble against us..

How do you think this team compares with AVB's team of 2012/13 seeing as we we finish on near enough the same amount of points? I think this team is miles better, even if you don't look at the stats - looking at how the respective teams play we are far better.

This is why it's nonsense to compare points tallies across different seasons, there are so many factors to take into account which will never give you the full story.
