Some positive news (maybe):

@SpursOfficial: Bale: "We're a young squad. We'll pick ourselves up and come back again stronger next season"

After which we lost to Fulham and drew with Wigan. Not quite sure what your point is.
Losing to Fulham was a consequence of the Inter Milan ET over there. That's how it looked: devoid of any pace, ball movement, creativity, dynamism.

I don't believe that would have happened without capitulation to Liverpool, a game we were clearly controlling and threatening to add to our goal tally, Liverpool looking bereft until Walker invited them to score, Downing of all players.

More telling is the lack of clean sheets. Arsenal had 5 in 6 away games. 4 were 1 nil, which reminds me of someone.

Not much to go on there though.

How much game time did all the strikers have? If your not counting Bale as a striker, even if he and Dempsey both played as one for parts of the season then we have only played with 1 striker most of the time.

Spurs strikers (Ade and Defoe) played 4091 minutes, or a goal every 256 minutes. City strikers (Dzeko, Aguero and Tevez) played 6165 minutes, scoring a goal every 162 minutes.

Bale wasn't a striker. He was an attacking midfielder, as was Nasri and Yaya Toure and David Silva. They play too deep to be considered strikers. I think Dempsey played one game as a striker, sometime around when Ade was away for ACON, but the rest of the time he played in the midfield.

Post-match comments:

Mousa Dembele
"All we could do is keep believing, not think too much about the other game and try to win. We did that. We don't have to
be negative now. Yes we're disappointed but we have the quality to bounce back next season. I'm very happy after my first year at Spurs. I hope we will achieve something in the future."

Gareth Bale
"Nice to sign the season off with great goal in the last minute. We fought hard this season. Team and management have

been great. We're a young squad. We'll pick ourselves up and come back again stronger next season"

André Villas-Boas
"Great second half and a great effort. With this amount of points it shows the standard has gone up. It will go up again next season. The second half was really good. Great collective effort and something we can take into next season. The players have been absolutely immense. We've given Arsenal and Chelsea a good run. We'll get better next year."

We're not talking about iniesta and falcao We're talking about buying players to improve the squad Players who can score goals and/or create them Players like Berbatov & Modric when we signed them

For me this is it exactly.

What I said last summer and many seasons before, the club's transfer strategy is non existent. When Berbatov and Keane left we were up shit creek without a paddle and panic bought Pavlyuchenko and had bought Bent. So you lose two strikers who like to drop off and link up play and buy two out and out poachers.

I would think an organisation the size of Spurs should have a list of all 25 of the squad players and have a separate list of players that could replace every single one of those 25. I know it sounds a bit Football Manager-ish but its simple succession planning that happens in every big company or organisation.

Man United have been successful for the past 20+ years because if you look at it how many times has Fergie rebuilt the team? How many times has he lost key and quality players like Hughes, Cantona, Stam, van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo...even if Rooney had left would anyone have noticed? Man United are always one step ahead on transfers and recruitment and for me it is, along with the manager's undoubted passion and expertise, a key factor in not on their success but their SUSTAINED success. Sure they have more money than most but its quite easy to misspend that if you aren't identifying the right players.

Dortmund are a great example of identifying talent and developing it. Kagawa left and they bought Reus, Sahin left they had Gundogan, Goetze is leaving they are lining up Eriksen. This is how you do business in sports IMO when you don't have the money that City etc have.

Correct i think Lukaku scored his seventeenth goal of the season. Not bad for a bench player at the start of the season. Betenke didn't cost thirty odd million either.

I could not agree more. Our motto is audere est facere so can we DARE to be prepared before the first ball is kicked instead of mucking about trying to squeeze the last penny out of each deal which means we inevitably lose out on key targets. We got off to a slow start like last season and one has to wonder if we may have got the one win out of the first three games that would have got us CL with a more settled and balanced squad right from the start.

Every team will drop points here and there and have shock results along the way but there is simply no excuse for operating the way we do. If we don't have the millions to pay for the top players then let's go with what we can afford and BED them in early and have a real go!! Just look at the end of season form guide - we are in the top four so that's not where we lost it.

There's a reason for why people get mindbendingly rich. They watch how they spend their money.

Naturally. But abramovich spends his on Oscar, hazard and mata.

It would be easier to swallow today by claiming we did well to compete with mega rich clubs if we didn't have our own mega rich owner.

It feels somehow typical of our luck that we're the only club owned by a billionaire who doesn't want to spend money!

(Though Villa might make that claim too)

May your dear mother rest in peace. It's very sad and I know we're just disembodied posters but I'm sure everybody here wishes your family well in these trying circumstances.

The Lukaku who cost 18 million for an 18 year old? which would smash our transfer record? That one?

Just home from the game, very proud considering we finished 5th. Although that ghost goal was so fucking harsh. The players reaction to bale scoring indicated they thought it was 1-1 at the time.

A guaranteed nail on. Remember Alan Ball telling City players to keep the ball in the corner when he thought 2-2 v Liverpool was enough to keep City up?

You sir, are a hero.

And you've unintentionally made me feel alot better about today. When stuff like that happens you really do realise it is all just a game.

I hope you and your family are okay, god bless your mum.
