[/float_right] Tottenham will look to put their Capital One Cup exit behind them and get back to winning ways when they host Wigan at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Spurs have won five of their last six Premier League encounters to leave them fourth in the table with 17 points but suffered a 2-1 fourth-round cup defeat at Norwich on Wednesday night to shake that run of good form.

Andre Villas-Boas' men will be keen to put the setback behind them against the Latics as they look to close the gap on Manchester United and City, who sit second and third respectively with 21 points.

Wigan suffered the biggest upset of this week's cup ties on Tuesday night when they were beaten by League Two Bradford on penalties and will be desperate to bounce back from that shock defeat.

Roberto Martinez's side, who sit 15th in the table, claimed their first home win of the season last weekend when they saw off West Ham 2-1 and will hope to build on that result.

Their recent record against Tottenham will not inspire much confidence, with Spurs having won four and lost just one of their last six league meetings with the Lancashire club.

That run includes Spurs' biggest ever Premier League win, when they thrashed the Latics 9-1 at the Lane in November 2009.

Tottenham:

Tottenham playmaker Mousa Dembele is unavailable for the visit of Wigan due to a niggling hip injury.

Striker Emmanuel Adebayor is in contention after recovering from illness and a back injury, but midfielder Jake Livermore is a doubt after suffering an ankle injury in Wednesday's defeat at Carrow Road.

Long-term absentees Scott Parker (Achilles), Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Younes Kaboul (both knee) remain sidelined.

Wigan

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez expects to again be without on-loan Arsenal winger Ryo Miyaichi for the trip to the capital.

The Japan international has missed the last three games with a groin problem and, although Martinez has not yet ruled him out, it is highly unlikely he will be fit.

Also on the sidelines are defender Antolin Alcaraz and winger Albert Crusat, who are still out with groin and knee problems, respectively.

Wigan winger Ryo Miyaichi is still troubled by a groin problem and unlikely to return on Saturday.

It's been a topsy-turvy week for both these clubs. At the weekend all was rosy following two important wins; Wigan picked-up their first home victory of the season and Tottenham safely came away from a trip to Southampton with three points.

But fast forward a couple of days and it was all turned on its head in the Capital One Cup. The Latics were stunned at home on penalties by League Two side Bradford, while Tottenham had a fright night on Halloween by conspiring to losing late on against Norwich.

Both side's priorities, though, lie in the Premier League, where they are at different ends of the table.

Spurs are fourth, a position they have occupied at the end of two of the last three seasons, and would be delighted to remain in come May.

They have only lost twice in the league so far and fans seem to be coming round to the methods of new manager Andre Villas-Boas. They have won five out of their last six, without some of their most influential players in Scott Parker, Benoit Assou Ekotto and Younes Kaboul, so the former Chelsea boss must be pleased with how his squad is shaping up.

This fixture at White Hart Lane has thrown up some funny results in recent seasons. Three Novembers ago, Tottenham famously won 9-1 but the next season Wigan stunned Spurs 1-0. In January last year it was the Gareth Bale show as the Tottenham winger scored twice in a 3-1 win, and the Welsh winger is again in flying form so Wigan boss Roberto Martinez will surely be planning ways of stopping him.

His side were bottom of the league this time last season before they pulled off one of the Premier League's great escapes to avoid relegation. He will be keen that his side build on their win over West Ham and get points on the board early. White Hart Lane, though, is not the easiest of places to do it.

matchfacts.jpg

Head-to-head

  • Wigan have managed just two victories in the 15 previous meetings between the sides, but one of those came at White Hart Lane in the 2010-11 season.
  • Tottenham did the double over Wigan last season, winning 2-1 at the DW Stadium and 3-1 at White Hart Lane. Gareth Bale scored three times in those fixtures.
  • The Latics have scored just 13 times in the 14 league matches between the sides, compared with Tottenham's 32 goals.

    Tottenham
  • Tottenham have scored in all nine of their league matches this season - the only other top-flight club to manage this feat is Manchester City.
  • Only Robin van Persie (55) and Wayne Rooney (40) have scored more Premier League goals since the start of the 2010-11 season than Clint Dempsey (31). The American has scored six league goals against Wigan - more than against any other side.
  • Only seven goals have been scored in the first half of Tottenham's nine league matches this season, but 23 goals have been scored after half-time.

    Wigan
  • Wigan are the only Premier League team who have not recouped any points from losing positions this season.
  • Their victory over West Ham was their first win in the league in seven attempts - and their first home victory of the season.
  • Wigan have scored 34 Premier League goals in 2012 (excluding own goals) and none have come from an English player - they are the only club to have played in the division this calendar year without a single English scorer.

We've been rightly fucked with injuries this season, and it's all to key players.

Hope Sandro's not out for long.

Take away Modders and VDV and replace them with Sig and Dempsey and this is what you get.
