As we head into December & the January transfer window draws nearer, suprise suprise, spurs are linked with every player the press can think of. To mention a few:
D Villa (£30M)
J Babtista (£5M)
A Diaby (£7M)
M Laursen
& Guti
Who would you most like to see at the Lane & who's time is up & should be sent packing ?

Appiah, who is definitely available. Also a experienced CB, doesn't need to be a glamorous name, but someone who has leadership qualites and most importantly a good organiser. Ryan Nelson or similar would do for me. And a left wing, but we've been trying to sign one for years and they just aren't available that often so we'll probably have to wait.

I can't see Appiah leaving in the middle of the season considering Fenerbahce is going to likely be in the knock-out stages. I know he was available in the summer, and Schalke 04 passed on him 7 million euro price tag, which is why they are suffering this season (especially considering the massive sponsor deal with Gaziprol).

Also - African Nations Cup. And since he is captain of the home squad which is arguable the best team in Africa, he will be away for a while.

But, I'm not being all negative. I think he is a fantastic idea. And we should think about him in the summer. He's like Zokoro with skill and determination. And he can EFFING score!:)

His move to Everton fell through at the last minute because they run out of time to do the extensive medical needed (as he had a knee injury). But, Appiah said he hoped to resurrect the deal in Jan. I'm sure we'd be a more attractive destination for him than Everton. I don't think the ANC will make any real difference when signing a player. We can wait 2 weeks for him, if we can wait 2 months for Steed (he was injured when we signed him). But the point you raise about the CL is a concern and something I hadn't thought of.

Out of that list, Diaby and Baptista.

I don't want Baptista after the conversation I reported below in the Sunday Transfer/Baptista thread:

On the link with Julio Baptista, I asked a pretty astute goon (an oxymoron if ever I wrote one) season ticket holder about him. He laughed and said, "in English football the 'Beast' is more of a 'Carthorse'."

The guy said that Baptista's first touch is so poor that gooner fans wanted to check his birth certificate to see if he really was Brazilian, and that whilst he's strong, he was easily knocked off the ball by Premiership defenders. He also said he thought he was too lazy and not aggressive enough to play as a CM, and that he wouldn't have him back @ the Arse even at £5 million.

It's also interesting because Wenger has deliberately upped the tempo and toughness of his midfield this season, putting Flamini and Eboue in alongside the flair players (Fabregas, Rosicky, Hleb). Gilberto is out apparently because he sits deep rather than playing the high-tempo pressing game, and because Flamini and Eboue are nastier *****s.

So, if Julio Baptista had had the makings of a tough, pressing, high-tempo CM, surely Wenger would have found a way of keeping him - especially given he's now available at a discount price in Real Madrid's Xmas Sales. Given this, I don't want him as a Spurs CM, and he's definitely no better than any of our strikers.

I'd like to see us sign another CB, but i can't see them shelling out on extra's, despite the number of injuries we carry across the back.

Van der Vaart has been someone who's impressed me and as a playmaker he's coming back to the form that got people talking back when he first joined Ajax, and he appears to be over the "mido-esque" slump that he went through, he's off the pies and finally got himself a full season under his belt at Hamburg. I'll be honest and say i've not seen a single Hamburg game this year, but if he has the same kind of drive and technique as the games i saw him play in the last two terms, he'd be well worth considering, imo.

Aside from that, he's apparently wanting out, with Spain his desired destination, but i think the smell of cash could draw his gaze this way

It would be nice if we could think Arteta might be tempted to leave the Toffees, but, lets be honest, that isn't going to happen unless we start chucking cuban cigars and purest virgins into the deal...

A GK to challenge Robbo. If Cerny wasn't good enough to take over when Robbo's form was desperate then quite frankly, we're lacking in the position.

An established CB to settle the defence.

A MF general.

A winger, preferably left.

Ditch Zokora, Ghaly, Gardner, Routledge. (Cerny too if we replaced Robinson)

How about Andriy Rusol from Dbipropetrovsk in the Ukraine. He has made a name for himself at the international level and has world class potential at CB

I don't think we need anymore quality at CB, as I don't see any players with better attributes than Dawson and Kaboul. Kaboul has everything you'd want in a classy Rio Ferdinand type CB and Dawson has all the attributes to be a John Terry type blood and guts defender. But, both of them are seriously lacking in terms of simply knowing how to defend properly. Their positional sense, communication and decision making is pretty awful, so I'd just like to see them playing alongside an experienced player who knows his job inside out and they can learn from him.

In midfield what do you think of Alex Meier and Sebastian Kehl?

He's a classic #10, which wouldn't actually fit with Ramos' system. And they won't sell him until the summer. He's basically worth 26 million Euros to Hamburg as they could win the league (and that would be the payout). And in the summer they can still sell him for 15 million.

According to wikipedia, Laursen has made a grand total of 164 first-team club appearances since his debut in 1995, and played 71 matches since joining AC Milan in 2001. He truly is a sicknote and the last thing we need is another injuryprone CB.

And even if Laursen was guaranteed injury free, I still don't think he's much better than what we have. He's not dominant and he's not fast.

i dont think we should count on King to much, his injurys worry me, if he returns soon how long for? so a solid CB required. Gardner is never gonna make the grade and Kaboul has skill but i feel he would do better as a MF player than a CB.

A MF general to play with Jenas, i get frustrated with Jenas as i beleive there is potential there he is just so inconsistant. Zokora, all the Heart and obviously loves the club but is he doing it for us?

Left winger, this is someting we all know we need you would have to be blind to miss it, Bale is doing a good job there but he was bought as LB, if Bale takes LW then we should be looking for a LB replacement.

Ghally will never don a spurs shirt again, he is not fit to, a few ok performances and thats it, not a top class player, who does he think he is.

Will we have to bear witness to his unit?

Kehl would a good signing, however, he's coming back from a long layoff, so there is a lot to be said for taking a chance on him. He's quality. His ability to play a deep midfield and CB make him versatile and suited to the system.

Meier, while being a St Pauli boy, I know less about. I just can't sit through a Frankfurt game. I find them tedious.

From what I understand of Kelhs injury, is that it isn't so much that the actual injury that was the problem, but that the incision where they operated kept on getting infected and therefore it couldn't heal and he thus couldn't train. This apparently went on for over a year. If that is the case, then I don't think he'd be a risk, in the same way other players with poor injury records are, as it doen't seem to be a case of him being injury prone.

Appiah isn't the man. At the worldcup Appiah cpt of ghana, wore the no.10. in the first half of the Czech game everything went through him. Essien took a back seat. before they new it Ghana were 2-0 down and looked a shambles. There was a moment you could see in the second half where Essien went "fuck this for a game of soliders" and metophorically brushed Appiah aside and took over the ghanain team. everything then went through Essien and Ghana, although still lost the Czech game, finished the better side. Then the next two group games, ran by Essien, Ghana were excellent and Appiah a relative passenger. Essien was then suspended for the 1st knock out round, Appiah resumed control and Ghana limped out.

This is what i want to happen, not what i think will happen:

Out:
Zokopops (sry hasnt really delivered what is demanded of him)
Ekotto (too much liability and now we have Bale with lee as backup, easy cash me thinks)
Tainio (not the fighter we need im afraid and not much else to offer...makes room for a fresh face)
Rocha (we definately need one world class defender back there while Daws and Kaboul is learning and Rocha out would leave that gap)
Routledge (put him out of his misery..plz)

In (that we my have a chance to get...):
Requielme (would be a dream....I think he is the best midfielder in the world if we can get rid of his attitude problems)
Arteta (one of the leagues best players, but not good enough for a regular start in the top 4.....take him)
Arshavin (get him NOW..will be Barcelona-bound in 6 months if not..)
Vagner Love (the leftsided player we need....he plays in cold Russia and wont whine about the weather in England either...)
Panzer Hagen (one of the worlds toughest defenders also plays in russia...on a free this jan and experienced enough to kick some ass in England)

I think most people would say Appiah had a very good WC, but what the majority think often means jack shit, so you could be right. I was impressed with him and Ghana in general. According to Appiah himself, he came close to joining Arsenal as a result. Also Ghana beat the Czech Republic 2-0. And to be fair, i think "limped out" is a bit harsh. They lost to Brazil and still had more of the possession. Without their star player and with a man sent off, I don't think they did too badly against the favourites. They are only Ghana!
