A GK to challenge Robbo. If Cerny wasn't good enough to take over when Robbo's form was desperate then quite frankly, we're lacking in the position.

To be fair to Cerny, he hasnt had much of a look in, not because he is bad, but because Jol (remember him?) had Robinson as one of his untouchables.

There were times this season where in my opinion, Cerny should have been picked and Robbo benched but Jol was not going to do this.

We need a couple of decent central midfielders!! Jenas and Zokora fall short of the standard we are trying to achieve. Would like to see Arteta for sure!!! Get rid of Zokora he just aint good enough!!

couldnt agree more. two signings would make a huge difference to us at the minute - a ball winning central midfielder and a good centre back. that should be ramos's main targets and those signings are that important that if we cant get the right ones in january window then he should definately wait until the summer

But this was what you would do, and doesn'y make it the right call.

The reports from the reserve games from some people on here said that Cerny wasn't doing well in the games he had there.

The need to drop Robbo was not about bringing in a better goalkeeper as most people realise Cerny isn't, it was about giving Robbo the message that he wasn't performing.

Every player in the team needs to understand he is not untouchable even if it means replacing him with an academy kid to make the point.

Almunia is not a better keeper than Lehmann but Wenger drops him when his performances are not up to scratch and that is the difference between the best managers and the also rans.

Jol paid the price for not doing this earlier with his job just as McClaren has.

There is no point in replacing a player if the player that comes in will not push the player you have droped.

Im not saying we didn't need to drop Robbo, just that we have noone to replace him with at that time.
There is no point sticking a youngster in if he is not ready and with our back 4 he will have a more torid time than Robbo does.

Maybe the youngster part is pushing it a bit as Carson showed the other night but whilst Cerny was, as expected, no better than Robbo he was certainly no worse.

As a result Robbo has got the message that he is not untouchable and he is no longer in the comfort zone. And whilst the arrival of Ramos may have helped change our fortunes combined with the lack of real quality opponents Robbo's record of 1 goal in 4 since his return might highlight this much needed kick up the arse.

When you look at most Premiership squads I don't think you'll find reserve keepers are there to push the number one as they don't get playing time, they are there in case of injury or a serious loss of form. As I think it is fair to say that Robbo had fallen into the latter category and should have been 'rested', the only argument is should it have been sooner?

I have mentioned him before(2 years ago),Luka Modric would be an absolutely fantastic signing in midfield, buy a good left back, keep Bale in midfield and buy a good right back.Get rid of the deadwood and Ramos will improve and develop the rest of the players we already have. That will be more than enough to see us through until the summer and then Ramos can bring in a few more quality 1st teamers, job done!

That was a post from November 2007,brilliant or what?

How can you select a quote from a previous thread to start a new one -anyone any idea?

Anyway my superstar prediction for the next 2 years is Riccardo Montolivo from Fiorentina - please, please Juande buy him now!!
