I just dont get it. Kaboul was an absolute liability at the back for us,a good athlete but not a good defender by any stretch of the imagination. So why Man city want to pay £14 million for him is beyond me! Why not get him back for the remainder of the money that Pompey owe us (if this is true) & then swap him in the summer for richards & Petrov if they rate him so highly

I still maintain that he should be playing in DM he seems to have most of the qualities to make him a decent backup to Wilson. Never actually seen him play there though.

So in theory we could end up playing two central defenders, bassong and kaboul, two players who came from teams that leaked goals for fun, fills me full of confidence.
Isn't Bassong one of those responsible for our great run of clean sheets?

If we want a big clumsy lump, then go for samba at blackburn or hangeland at fulham.
He's an absolute monster in defence, or haven't you watched any of our games this year?
He has that extra something that just fills you with confidence - one of the buys of the century so far for sure.

IMO there is a decent footballer in there somewhere trying to get out (I also think this of KPB). I reckon Younes is worth a punt - but like a few other posters, perhaps as a DM moving forward in his career. Seems to pop up with a few goals as well..

I will trust Harry on this one, if he plays him I will support him, if he doesnt then well, I wont..

Come off it. The fella has been here half a season, and our defensive record isn't all that (apart from very recently). He has done well, but you are going well over the top!

He was definately given a short shrift during his last spell at Spurs. He was expected to come straight in to an experienced defence short on confidence rather than eased into a new league. He obviously has the physical qualities needed to play at centre back but I'm still sceptical about his football brain.

As for playing him at DM, I strongly disagree. We need round pegs for round holes.

Players change their role with a lot of success sometimes and I honestly have felt since his first few games that DM would be better for him. He is still young and learning. Its not like we are suggesting lennon can play centre back. :)

Kaboul's form for Pompey has been very good this season. He's hampered by a pretty awful situation down there. I'd like to see him back. he didn't get much of a chance when Ramos came, but now could be the time.

Strange one this, though if I were bringing him back i'd try to convert him to a holding midfielder like a Palacios, He's strong and reasonably quick, improve his passing ability and he could be decent cover for the midfield.

considering to his comments about Levy some weeks ago, i really doubt this:

Kaboul said: 'I didn't join Sunderland because of Levy at Spurs. He wanted to treat us all like cows. I told him I have personality and I am not your dog. That's it. So I told him I will not go. He told me to get on a flight and go. I told him I wouldn't and would go where I want. Sunderland are a good team, good fans and everything. But I don't like it when someone imposes on me like I'm a dog.

Haha in this one article, Kaboul comes across as incredibly stupid:
  • The whole article is about him getting sent off for his celebration after scoring. Why do footballers still take their shirts off, when they know its a guaranteed booking?
  • He doesn't know whether he's a cow or a dog
  • He apparently moved to Portsmouth instead of Sunderland to prove a point to Levy. How's that working out Younes?
I find it interesting that most on here would apparently take Kaboul, Boateng and O'Hara back at Spurs. 3 of Pompey's 10 outfield players are apparently good enough for a role at Spurs, that doesn't seem right.

For what its worth, if we got Kaboul back on the cheap and loaned him out somewhere to see if he can improve defensively, and sold him on if he didn't, I can't see the harm.

Lets get titus bramble while were at it. He's had a reasonable season but you still wouldn't touch him with a barge pole, the same applies to kaboul.

I've just heard from a good source (gave me the crouchy deal) we are v.close to the signing of Louis Saha on a free! We are also v.interested in Jagielka...don't know about anybody going the other way but Saha apparently is v.close to happening.

well putting these three specifically aside. the idea that a player from a team doing badly is automatically bad and will never be good again is only true if sport was played on paper or in a stats machine. There are psycological reasons why teams/players are in bad form and managerial deciosn that can also affect results.

Had we not changed manager last season we might have gone down... but would lennon, modric, woodgate etc be labelled as no hopers by other fans based on that seasons poor form? No! They'd be well sort after and sensible fans would be joyed to be linked to them.

I'm not saying we should be joyed at being linked with Kaboul i'm just saying the lists of reasons why people would be apposed to it should not include sweeping nonsense about them coming from a poor team. Postioning sense, atttitude, tackle sucess rate etc etc etc. Bassong, despite coming from a rubbish team has proven to be a worthy CB for a top 6 PL side.
