They are different players who play in completely different positions and styles. Modric is far closer to Moutinho and I believe he believed the 30m for Modric would easily cover the fee for Moutinho and give Levy some change.
of course but I think AVB was absolutely desperate get and the ITK i was referring to was JJ saying levy told AVB if VDV and Modric went he could get moutinho

The articles is mostly direct quotes. You can trash VdV for saying them, should you be so minded, but not the article.

TBH, after reading what little there was, the whole thing smacked of a copious amount of editing. We are all fully aware of how the British press edit quotes to make them fit an agenda so I wouldn't place too much faith in the efficacy of the article just because it has 'direct quotes.' I note that the article also didn't set the interview out as a Q&A, which would also give some background for a greater understanding of what VDV was saying, or replying to.

I don't know about you but this always rings alarm bells with me.

basically I treat it in exactly the same way I treat tabloids, broadsheets, ITK's and any other 'meeja' outlet and that is with copious amounts of Salt with the bullshit filter turned on to max!

Neg just wouldn't cover this.

Neither does a glib reply. I'm hardly a Dempsey fan, but how many left-sided successful, experienced Premiership footballers would you suggest were realistically available?

Or do you want to continue selectively quoting sections of posts to create the illusion of intelligence?

Left sided footballers who can read with an illusion of intelligence who can select posts? They've got to be worth £100 billion in today's market, we can't compete with that, even if they are a busy ****'s.

Apologies, I'd always had you down as a sense of humour type.

This isn't a conversation worth having with me. I think Dempsey is one of the worst footballers I've seen in a Spurs shirt. I think we had better options in our U18 team than using him, and possibly most U18 team around Europe's major leagues and many of it's non major leagues. Watching him is giving me an ulcer in my football gland.

I don't think any of your subsequent qualification or anything else you could add would ever convince me that in any way Dempsey has, accidentally or otherwise, replaced VDV.

If VDV is an atom, Dempsey wouldn't even be a higgs-boson, he'd be one of the particles that scientists believe make up the higgs-boson of usefulness.

You're being unfair on Dempsey While he disappoints his work rate is great and he's scored some goals that have got us points because he's in the right place at the right time ( Man U ). Give the boy time. Coming to spurs is a step up from Fulham and he needs to adjust.

For the record half the team of the late nineties were worse than Dempsey.

sad he went as he was genuine world class on his day but how long would have he continued for? At 29 and with the injuries he would have struggled and also prevented Bale playing through the middle.

I don't think you really got the point I was making.

Think most of us knew this when he left, after what happened at Chelsea Van der Vaart was always going to be too big a character for Villas-Boas, so no surprise at all that he left. The moving closer to the wife reason was just buffering.

Shame really because Van der Vaart would have been superb this season also, but he has moved on and so have we.

If having something to do with it was saying he's going to have to fight for his place like everyone else then I'm gald he did have something to do with it, but if you read the article it's a little bit bullshitty and contradictory. You really think AVB said later on on, "actually VDV, you know I said you had to fight for your place, well now I've seen Sigurdsson I've decided you can coast it based on your past glories" ?

If he left because AVB said he's got to fight for his place then he could of gone to a club better than one languishing at the foot of the bundesliga surely. He chose Hamburg for a specific reason. His wife and kids are there.

I think AVB was spoken to before he was appointed about who is at Tottenham and who he'd like. I think all the summer comings and goings he has had his say about and that people just want to blame someone else.

I have no doubt AVB told him he would not be guaranteed a place and what style of football we would be playing. I don't think VDV fitted AVB's identik for a player and didn't mind if he went, he certainly didn't make much effort to keep him.

He has of course split up from his wife now.

Rafa was elbowed out and we were happy to get the money for him,a blind man could see how happy he was playing for us.
Should never have happened.

People really should be more wary of the media by now, the usual old story of headline exaggerating what is supposed to have been said. There is no reference of what questions were asked, and it looks like someone has took the qoutes from Dutch or English and stuck them into Google translate then reworded to make sence. No where does he say he dadn't get on with Andre and as BC says it seems to say one thing and then another, a lot of BS.

There is nothing to suggest any sort of editing of VdV's quotes, which seem to provide quite a bit of context to me:
"With Villas Boas I had a false start. While with HSV I just felt as though she really needed me... It was a club in need. And I wanted to help.
"During our first conversation (with AVB) he hinted that I had to fight for my place. That in itself is not a problem. I have enough confidence in my abilities. But until that time I was 'the guy' at The Spurs. The contrast with the way Villas-Boas saw it, it was just too big. The club had just bought Sigurdsson who had an advantage, the coach said himself.
"In the same period HSV knocked at the door again. Villas Boas came around shortly afterwards and changed his opinion of me, apparently it was not so smooth with Sigurdsson, but then I had already made my choice. About the club I have no evil words, the atmosphere was great, we had a good team, there is a club being built."

I loved Rafa, loved his insane moments of talent, his hatred of the scum, even him huffing and puffing around like an enthusiastic fat Labrador after 60 minutes.

But reading those quotes makes me glad he's gone. We've seen that we have an excellent team spirit, perhaps in part down to the fact that everyone feels like they have a chance and they're all valued. I don't get the feeling that would be the case if we currently had a sulky VDV here mouthing off to the press as he's done in the past (who would have LOVED some ammunition to use against AVB) and generally stinking up the place with a bad attitude because AVB didn't think he was a special snowflake.

That would have tarnished all the brilliant things he did for us. As it is, I think we all won - VDV got to go back to Hamburg where he's adored, we're thriving too.

The quotes were clearly made in a different language and crudely translated.

From memory - wasn't he linked to a move away by ITKs before AVB even joined? Anyways, AVB is the HC, VDV just a player. I'd still like him here but we currently sit 3rd and have had all manner of issues to deal with so I'm glad it's VDV that left tbh. And I luuuuuuuuuuuuuurve Rafa. Don't want to read the quotes in case I cry a little.

Short version - players come and players go. Even shexy ash mofos like VDV.

No matter what way I try to read the bit in bold it always sounds like Martin Jol

Anyway, yeah VDV, whatever really. He came, he played, he starred, he left. Life goes on.
