Read my earlier post, I laid it all out in black and white.

I have the same optimism regarding Janssen as I had with Rose, Lamela, Kane and Eriksen. I got similar responses then to yours now.

"Stupidly" optimistic, or an ability to see potential?

Forgive for questioning your ability to see potential. That's a solid and unquestionable proof that you are not stupidly optimistic, but a world renowned scout.

Is there anyone you are not optimistic? What do you think about GKN? Will he make it??

I'm surprised at how quickly some are willing to write off Janssen, even had he shown zero improvement over the course of the season, anybody who looked at his history would know he's incredibly tough mentally.

I don't think anybody will say that Season 1 was a raging success, but it seems crazy to write off a young player moving to a new league after only one season unless there's something behind the scenes we are unaware of.

The club writes off most of the products from its youth system on a regular basis, it wrote off Helder Postiga after one season, it loaned out Njie after 1 season and it is highly unlikely that he will play for us again. This is standard across the whole game, United sold Depay ( the supposed the next big thing in Dutch football) after a season so I am not quite sure at the surprise at this.

I suspect this will all come down to the player himself as much as the club. Of course he'll want reassurances that he'll be given opportunities. If the club goes and buys another recognised striker then he may see his opportunities lessen. If he's up for it himself then I feel he'll be given a chance at some time.

No room for sentiments.

If Pochettino thinks there's someone better out there willing to play backup, I don't mind if we sell Janssen.

Saying that, he's had a season here, has shown many favourable attributes, so like Son and Lamela could have an excellent second season. Therefore I'd rather keep him. I hope we have a longer run in the CL and so there will be plenty of game time left for him.

A lot of our foreign acquisitions have failed to adapt and were written off early over the past few years though. They were all subsequently moved on while their stock was still high.

How many have gone on to prove us wrong?

You didn't question it, you resorted to a personal attack labelling me "stupidly" optimistic.
Now that I've responded to that, citing previous players that rated when many others were writing them off, you act like a petulant little teenager? Grow up.

Janssen may or may not make it with us, I've stated that already. He has the right temperament, he has the ability IMO, he just needs the time to realise it. As a 22 yo, he still has a lot to learn, but he has the tools, the mindset and the coach to get him there.

As for GKN, I don't know, I haven't seen enough of him to form an opinion one way or the other.

We can all have our opinion of Janssen, but the only opinion that really matters is Poch's, and based on what we saw last season, he was far from confident in Janssen being the player that could add the required quality to such a degree that he preferred a midfielder in Son to deputise for Kane's two spells out injured. Whether Poch has seen enough of Janssen is still up for debate. the proof will transpire over the coming weeks.

Son isn't a midfielder. He's always played an attacking mid/second striker position.

That doesn't prove a thing. You're trying to make out Poch doesn't trust Janssen to the point he'll put in a midfielder instead of him. Son is not a midfielder.

He's not a midfielder, but he's also not a center forward, and I think that is the point he's trying to make

Not coming off for him thus far vs ivory Coast. Just misses a chance when clean through. Got a pen tho

edit: DSP: Dele-Son Paradox - just got an assist, 'should of' had another, and scored all after i bad-mouthed him

Decent game. Got a penalty, assist, a goal & good hold up play. But was rank bad in first 15 minutes of 2nd half. Wasted couple of great chances. Overall more than decent game in a friendly

Seems like a nice lad and there is no reason he can't go onto be a good player. In our current situation we need a back up for harry that is guaranteed to get goals though.
No one is guaranteed to consistently score goals coming on cold from long spells on the sidelines. Strikers need runs of games.

That's not really the point I was going for. We don't know much about previous players and their mental toughness and attributes. There's secondhand gossip we hear but that's about it.

However, we do know, based on his history, that Janssen is a mentally tough, hard working player with a proven track record of working through problems.

Now, if the club don't think he has settled and won't be good enough in the technical merits of the hand, then fair play, they have better information than we do. But his history indicates he had the mental fortitude to get through it. To me that makes sense for one more year.

Funny thing is, at his age and if he had come through the youth setup, people would be outraged about the thought of selling Janssen. I think also many are visually tricked a bit. He has the appearance of a 25-26 years old, so it's easy to think that he is already quite matured and experienced. But he is in fact not even 23. Granted, there are better players under the age of 23. But there are not very MANY better players under the age of 23 that we would be likely to sign. It is mind boggling to me that somebody would not want to keep him for another season.

That's a fair comment

I'm happy to keep him as long as Poch sees something in him he think he can progress

I won't be sad to see him go though as I would understand Poch feeling we need better and if we could replace him with a better option we would be stronger as a squad

Last season he was pretty terrible and added next to nothing to the squad, if we can get him out and someone in who can add more then we will be stronger for it. If Poch wants to keep him though I will trust his judgement
