They play better football than us more consistently than us. The quality of our personnel is the only area in which we can in any way be considered better, but even that is marginal. As the OP said, in terms of coaching, stadium, turnover and recent achievement they piss us. So a lot of the OP was right.

I certainly don't think the squad strength issue is marginal.

I'm also not deluded to think that we have played brilliant football 100% of the time. It comes in dribs and drabs. Sometimes we get 45 minutes of pure magic followed by shit. However Arsenal have put in a lot more poor performances than us.

I'd also add that when we are playing at our best, it is better than the goons at their best. Not by much, but it is.

Apology accepted I would rather you tell me my wife is sleeping with you than call me scum.

Listen it ia intreasting to hear some of the points we hve discussed on here tonight, the point I am trying to make has clearly rattled a few and to be fair I expected it to!

But deep down I think we all can't stand them but should understand the task that is ahead of us is one that they faced and did successfully 6-7 years ago. To think that because we potentially have a better team here and now we are a better club/business than them would be a huge mistake! We have a long way to go to do what they have done for the length of time they have.....

I agree we are close to something special but it could be taken away from us just as quick we don't qual for champions league Harry goes the stadium stops us acquiring new talent etc.

I think the general feeling is of a turning of the tide. Arsenal have steadily declined from their era of dominance, whereas Spurs have gradually improved. Now we seem to be on the threshold of overtaking them.

I don't expect them to go into freefall like some do, but I think we'll be in a position to at least be on the same level, or more likely ahead of them.

I think this is a top post by the thread starter. Too many enjoy the stand up if you hate arsenal stuff and are too blind to see the reality and facts

Both Alan Sugar and Jimmy Greaves has pointed out that we have pretty much always been behind Arsenal except for those glory years in the 50s/60s. They have 13 First Division titles/Premier Leagues to our 2, and 10 FA Cups to our 8. Sure we can say we have 2 UEFA Cups and a CWC to a their solitary CWC, but the big one...the European Cup...they've been a helluva lot closer than us.

Up until last weekend, for the past few years, pundits, fans and journalists have all said Spurs have one of the strongest squads in the league and much stronger than Arsenal. Well last weekend showed that maybe that gap isn't as big as we all thought, maybe there is no gap. Remember this is an Arsenal side that lost Nasri and Fabregas for about £50m and replaced them with Arteta and Benayoun who we...if that was us? This place would have gone apeshit.

I think they have had 15 consecutive seasons in the CL now, thats some achievement, thats what we should be aiming at doing. Hammer Wenger all you want but the quality of players that have left that team and yet they were still in the title race come February last season.

I don't admire them, like them, nor can I stand them. I hate them with a passion but there's no doubt that they are ahead of us on and off the pitch. Things look on the turn, new training facility and stadium will be some of the best around, the squad is ever-improving.

Wenger has has absolute dog's abuse all season, while Harry has been lauded by everyone as the new messiah. Both men are over-achieving with their resources. It's a massive shame Harry will be leaving at the end of the season, the continuous press speculation will damage our run in and who knows where its all gonna end up.

Oh and this better football thing, in the last 15 years they have played some supposedly great stuff (good football but for me personally the way they over-work it, I can't stand it...I prefer a more clinical and direct style like Guardiola's first season at Barca). But this season and over the last 2/3 years we have played some great stuff...as good as them and for stretches better. In terms of style points theres not much to choose between the two, and sadly I think thats the way the league table will go as well.

Quite depressing, but the upside? If any man is going to over-take Arsenal its Daniel Levy, as long as he can find stability on the pitch.

their stadium, like wembley is appalling. it's soulless and too spacious and not right for football. it will bring in revenue to keep them high up, but it's too crap now for them to really challenge anything for a tense home game.

For a lot of Spurs fans outside of London today v Manu is THE big game.
Most of my mates are Manu and Chelsea fans hardly any scum of my age live in south east Kent.

The only thing to admire about them is their ability to make money....but would Levy have let RvP get into last 14 months of his contract?

BC, I 'd go as far as to say that we have been better with the ball but as you would point out that is only one aspect of the game.......

don't really care about unless we are playing them, then they are the old enemy.
the rest of the time i couldn't care less about anything they do and would rather focus my thoughts on the game coming up as i'm sure the manager and squad do.

RVP has saved them this season, I feel he is papering over the cracks. I mean, who else actually looks like scoring other than him? They have no back up striker who could come in do the same job, they never replaced Nasri and Chesney Hawks, well he seems to like rushing out way too much, he is going to get caught out soon.

They are a good team but i do not think they are better than us this season, otherwise they would be above us.

Why? you've pointed out some very obvious things like nobody else knew about them.

Arsenal have a bigger stadium and more income. No shit Sherlock. Are you not aware that we are also planning a new stadium?

We know we are playing catch up but on the pitch, which is most important, we are getting close to them. There's a very good chance we'll finish above them this season.

Not the ame as bypassing them completely but people don't understand why you can't appreciate what we are doing right now.

This is the most excited I've been about Spurs in years. It's not the time to have a wankfest over Arsenal.

Arsenal have problems right the way from the boardroom through to the pitch, they shouldn't be the shining light for Spurs or anybody else.

Considering we spend 10's of millions a year less on salaries and have a significantly lower turnover, they are failing to be 4 points behind us having played a game more. They are also failing with their turnover and salaries to be unable to win a trophy or mount any sort of challenge for the title.

The reason for this post is I am sick of everyone being so short sited and the quicker we appreciate that we are part of a bigger business plan the better.

Even pundits and commentators are as guilty as us fans..... (me included, before the penny dropped)

We look at our starting 11/squad etc and say oh look we are better than these on paper blah blah blah but when you look at the bigger picture we are in a bit of a pickle.....

If you think this is doom and gloom…. No manager, champions league is by no means cemented, stadium is going to tighten a belt that is already pretty tight.

So the quicker we start thinking realistically the easier it is going to be for us to come to terms with our progression.

I see what you are doing with this thread, trying to make some valid points to advise us that we still have a very long way to go before getting any way near Arsenal.

Problem is the statements you make are factually incorrect. Several times you have mentioned having no manager. Am I missing something, did Harry accept the England job while I was drunk last night???? Nope, didn't think so. I will discuss a vacant managerial job if and when that happens, and not before.

The stadium will tighten the belt??? Right so that explains why a £30m player in the form of Hazard has publicly come out and said that we have been in talks with him. So potentially blowing our transfer record out of the water is "tightening the belt".

"In a bit of a pickle"??? WTF??? We are third in the league with a pretty good run in ahead of us. Hopefully be will make CL for the second season in three. When we were last there we didn't do too shabby. We have pretty much got the go ahead for the stadium. Personally I think the future looks very bright indeed. When you think where we were a few years ago I think the progression has been bordering on astounding. DL, a chairman who I would trust above any other in the league, will have learnt a hell of a lot over the last few years. Somehow I don't think he will be preparing to leave us high and dry if a key member of staff leaves, be it the manager or a player.

I really do understand the general concept of what you have tried to say with this thread. In reality though, its :bs:

2 results dont make a season. They are in trouble. Lets just wait till the end of the season before jumping the gun.
We have a savvy chairman, the stadium will not hold us back like it did with the goons.

I'm glad I sitll see football as a sport and the most important thing to me is what happens on a pitch at 3pm every saturday ( the odd wednesday/monday, sunday etc, such is the modern game )

The day I start fretting about the business plan, capacity etc is the day I stop following the sport.

You make some fair points but some can be argued against strongly ( all singing and dancing stadium? It's a plastic palace with zero atmosphere of which I have heard plenty argue that they got a very, very poor sponsorship, naming rights deal, especially compared to the figures being bandied around for our deal which would virtually foot the whole bill for our new home )

Arsenal have managed to do the same as United regarding their transition from an ageing squad to a younger one? They have not. Last time I checked United were gunning for the title, still in the Europa and have won countless trophies in recent years. Arsenal have not come close to matching that.

I admire their approach, it's virtually identical to ours ( run at a profit, everything geared up towards the FFP rules ) and of course I admire Wenger for his loyalty to them and the trophies he has won there but his recent record suggests his sell by date is nigh, possibly passed.

At the end of the day I'm the luckiest football fan in the world because I support Tottenham Hotspur. Eff the rest.
