Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey were booed by Wales fans as the players left Cardiff City Stadium following yesterday’s 4-1 win over Norway.

The pair have courted controversy by appearing in promotional images for a Team GB supporter shirt.

The Football Association of Wales do not wish their players to be involved in Stuart Pearce’s squad for the London Olympics as they fear it will harm their status as an independent footballing nation.

An FAW spokesman said the players were never in danger, adding: “We respect the right of our supporters to an opinion.”

I'd love it if Bale and Ramsey decided to retire from international football over this. They'll get to play at the Olympics, Wales can keep their "independant status" and the Wales supporters can continue to support their national side minus their only two special players.

Some Welsh people probably just detest Britishness - what ever they perceive that to be.

Booing your two best players is definitely the right thing to do.

I'm Welsh and I completely support Bale and Ramsey here, of course they should jump at the chance to play in the Olympics, who wouldn't do the same?!

I never quite understand hatred between any of the nations as well, as long as they're not playing Wales then I always support Scotland, England, N. Ireland and even the Rep. of Ireland.

i just read adamspurs' post in a strong welsh accent in my mind; it made me feel more sympathetic to his point.

I don't see their problem.

It's not like Wales is gonna send a football team to the olympics, so what does it matter?

Their problem is that a GB team will set a precedent. And the minnow nations who already have a problem with Britain having 4 international teams will push harder to have a GB team for world cups and european championships. Thus destroying the England, scotland, Wales and NI football teams.

FIFA have made reassurances that this will not happen, but frankly I don't blame them for being skeptical.

Dont agree with the booing but I do think fuck the Olympics - it's got nowt to do with footy really and couldn't give a shit who wins it - don't even know who's won it previously and don't ever remember watching it. With the WC, Euro's, CL, Europa, Prem, FA Cup, League Cup do we really need our players in this steaming pile of turd - the fact it's in London doesn't make any difference to me.

Do I want Gareth Bale or any other Spur fucking around in this when he should be training and intergrating with the squad in pre season? Not for a minute...

Isnt the olympics supposed to be for the best amateurs, not professionals? Still, would be nice to see Bale and maybe one or two of our suad win an olympic medal.

I think setting any sort of precident for a British team is a really bad idea. I also don't think sports like football that have their own major showpiece tournaments should have a place at the olympics.

However I can understand why players from Scotland, Wales and NI would want to play in this, as there's a strong chance they'll never play in a major international tournament in their career.

I've actually found the Welsh generally to be the most pro-British of any of the 4 countries (ignoring the English who just think its Greater England, Rangers fans and NI prods).

Maybe he should consider retiring from International football then. Not like Wales are ever going to qualify for anything. Might aswell retire and not risk injuries and fatigue.

From what I could gather they didn't boo the players during the game but afterwards some idiot shouted something as the players got on the team bus to depart the game.

Plus there were some anti-Team GB flags at the ground.

The idiots have a right to air their opinions, even if the majority of sane people would disagree.

I'm Welsh and have no issue with Team GB or Welsh players playing for Team GB. I'm very proud to be British.

The issue I have with the Olympics is as a Spurs fan. And that is that it spills over into the new Premier League season. Plus I'm worried Bale will pick up an injury and miss Spurs games.
