I really don't understand this issue at all.

But if it comes down to it i think we should make the Welsh FA declare a formal statement as to whether they support Welsh players in team GB, if they don't then Cardiff and Swansea can fuck right back off to playing in whatever piece of shit league they have in Wales.

End of.

Well done on completely missing the point. Have another well done for putting 'End of' at the end of your argument as if to conclude that there's nothing to discuss.

Congratu-fucking-lations.

it is about time we had a GB team to replace the four nations. none of the 4 have any chance of winning anything. a unified team may have a chance.

if the scots and welsh dont like it then leave the union and go independent full tiem mand stop sponging of england

Scotland are already pushing for independence now Salmond is in charge up there, which could have major consequences for England considering they have the lion's share of North Sea oil and gas, plus the majority of RAF bases and the Trident nuclear weapons programme.

Team GB could end up just being England and Wales.

What a pity the so-called "United" Kingdom can't make it a truly "Great" Britain team.

We'd be world beaters if we could play the best in one team. What a subs bench we'd have too!

Having a GB team for the Olympics is a good thing for this tiny island nation (yes, I know Ireland is across the water!) but those silly protesters can't see further than their own country's borders.

Divisive and short-sighted nationalism. Meh.

Indeed, it's double standards and hypocrisy from the Welsh FA.

The Welsh clubs should play in the Welsh leagues.

How am i missing the point?

So Welsh football teams get to participate in the English leagues - why? because there's no money for them in Wales and they'd go tits up if they weren't in the English leagues.

So we let them in, now the Welsh fans are booing Welsh players who want to play for team GB.

It's GB for a reason :bang:

Really if Welsh people don't want to be part of GB, vote for independance and then see how far that gets your piddly little country of coal miners.

I really like Welsh people and Wales, but you can't everything your own way, if you want to be part of GB then fine, but behave like you are.

It's pathetic.

And i can't put whateever-thefuck-iwant at the end of my statements welshie.

I agree.

FIFA had indicated in the past that if Wales, Scotland and Ireland can come together with England for a GB team, then why should they have an individual vote in FIFA?

It's a fair question.

Getting back to some sensible discussion.

The point is the Olympics is a specialist event, apart from once every 4 years there is no need to have this discussion, the Welsh FA and English FA are separate and have independent votes in FIFA, makes sense, although i still struggle a bit to see why Welsh teams play in the English league system on this basis.

The point is that for the Olympics the nation we put forward is GB, not England and thus all members of GB should be welcomed and encouraged to turn out at the Olympics in their chosen sport.

Have to admit I've thought the same in the past when certain Scottish peope start harping on in their garbled English about being more independant. I'm pretty sure that England would just about get by economically if it was on its own...not so sure about the rest.

Anyway, I think I might be alone in wanting to see a GB team. I've felt that way for a long time.

I'll repeat myself again - a very small minority of Welsh fans and not during the game. A complete non story so can we please stop turning this into some sort of nationalist uprising?

What I really find pathetic are xenophobic remarks drawing on cliches and stereotypes.

There are a lot of Spurs fans in my piddly little country of coal miners, quite a few frequent this site. It might therefore be a nice idea not to go out of your way to offend.

Scotland would probably be ok due to the fact that they are in possession of virtually all of the oil and gas in the UK. Wales I'm not so sure about.

Please don't give Wales and Scotland independence - we'll be stuck with a Tory govt forever...

I'm pretty sure that all the nations in the UK would be viable entities independent of each other (whatever that really means economically); politically I'm not sure what people get so het up about when talking about the demise of the UK; it began when Eire broke away and it's not like we're all clamouring for Eire to rejoin the UK, is it? Suggests there's nothing much to fear (and possibly a lot to gain).

Brasil Spur do your research. The Welsh FA when setting up the Welsh Premier League tried to make a number of Welsh clubs playing in the English pyramid. Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Merthyr Tydfil, Newport and Colwyn Bay refused and went to court and proved that because they had played in the league historically they could remain. Same goes for Berwick Rangers. They were subsequently banned from playing in the Welsh Cup which would be guaranteeing European football every year.

Elements of FIFA do want to merge the home nations as it help shift the power away as we hold four out of the eight votes on the international committee and a permanent vice president at FIFA. All this could be lost if a 2/3 majority vote removed this special dispensation. Sepp Blatter can bluster all he wants that it will not weaken our case for separate nations he does not decide the member states do.

Nobody would be fussed if Wales were still picking players from League One. They now have Bale and Ramsey and England have a number of average players like Downing and Bent the newspapers want them to play in Team GB.

For what it's worth I think Bale and Ramsey will play and think they should. It's just that the Home Nation FAs can have nothing to do with this.
