All United, City and Chelsea talk about is spending 'big'. Their fans are not even ashamed of buying their trophies.

"Also heard Real are interested in Alli as well."

Shit. If some bloke down the pub says it's happening, Levy must be shitting himself.

"Levy will come under immense pressure when the likes of City, United and Chelsea come knocking. "

I'm really panicking now!! How will Levy fend them off, how can he turn down a record bid? Poch won't have anyone left to play apart from Sissoko and that'll mean Poch will be off to Barcelona. Shit. And now Klopp's managed to close the gap on us from yesterday. I need some fresh air before I hyperventilate.

We haven't sold a player to United since Berbatov that was 9 years ago and we don't do business with Chelsea full stop. Rival fans remain blissfully ignorant the landscape is changing, if the new stadium was 2-3 years away then I would honestly believe it would be very difficult for us to keep hold of our best players, but it is 12 months away, most of our players are on long terms deals, we can hold off on any pressure to sell.

Agreed, but to be fair a lot us (myself included) got sucked into the whole 'marquee signing' obsession too.

Buying top quality players that have a good chance of hitting the ground running does make sense, and most of us would love someone like Isco. Frankly I'm amazed we got Lloris and Eriksen, who were both considered stars before joining us. However, Pochettino has worked wonders by working with existing players and rebuilding the team with players like Alderweireld, Son, and Wanyama. He's put together a team, and got rid of the trouble makers. It's great to watch play out, and the sign of a talented manager. Jose and Pep are being found out as people who can only throw money around to try for success. Everyone raved about Pep being some sort of genius, but in all honesty he could have gone on holiday for a year when at Barca and Messi, Iniesta, and Xavi would have taken care of business.

There are some people on that forum who actually engage in discussion rather than throw cheap jibes to hide their insecurity over their own team's failure. However the threads always get derailed by the same few.

Spurs fan makes this post:
As happy as I was when Spurs won the league cup, I'm far more satisfied with this season, even if we finish second and with a bad European showing. I guess people want to downplay it since it's not winning the league, but in my eyes I'll be proud of our season and the way we have played regardless of what people say.

To which the typical response comes back:
But you ain't won anything. Would you still look on this season with the same fondness if you finished 7th next year and trophyless again? Like I said, we've still had a better season than you.

Spurs fan responds:
I would, personal preference I guess, but second is better than 5th or whatever. We are playing better football than most teams in the league, and that matters a lot to me. And although we don't have a trophy it's still a good season for us in my mind. Winning trophies is great, but to be fair, some trophies weigh higher than others and I personally wouldn't trade for the league cup.

Maybe it would be different if I had supported United over the last 20 years, when finishing 2nd is nothing special. But for us, it is our highest ever PL finish, and doing it with a core of young players who we have helped develop or buy on the cheap is great in my eyes.

Then two Utd fans give their thoughts:
You've improved on last season, played great football and broken some of your own records. So yeah, I think it's a be a good season for you guys. Most of your players have improved as well and it's probably been a more challenging season than last year given you've had a few more injuries to contend with.Table never lies. It will also help your status as a club given that's back to back CL qualification.

I understand his thinking. It's something I've noticed speaking to older Utd fans who speak very fondly about Tommy Docherty and 70s United. A decade which saw relegation and only one FA Cup but a decade which had exhilarating football to watch, a new young team coming of age and the supporters fully enthused following Utd home and away.

As Utd fans we've been blessed under Fergie to have so many special occasions - FA Cup Finals, European Cup Finals, 13 league titles - but seeing those older Reds tell stories of what the history books will show as a barren era puts it all in perspective. Fans don't lift the trophies. They take home the memories and a full season of great performances and football that gets you off your seat is something you can reminisce about more just as much - if not more - than a day out at Wembley.

I was watching the game at a pub in Amsterdam, sitting with few Arsenal fans...What a game we played - I was grinning all the way. One irate Arsenal fan went crazy at Wenger after the 2nd goal. Then calmed down and said 'Look at Pochettino. The man shows passion on & off the field and is tactically sound. He treats everyone with respect and even as a Arsenal fan I have only respect for him. Its painful to see Spurs have him as a manager.'

What pub were you in?

Yaniiited fans make me laugh in their ageing, lob sided hole.

Reality - Better stadium, training facilities, higher attendance record and in London not shitty Manchester.

Next year probable 85k average attendances.

They really think they are Barca, RM and they are not.

Soon as we start matching their wages, players would come to us.

We're never going to able to match their wages, have you seen how much turnover they continue to generate.

For key players we certainly will - that's why we are tieing with NFL and building the monster.

Also, Most of their 'fans' would hop to the next cool thing given time and I bet never been to grimey Manchester.

Nothing fixed

The one thing I will give Pep credit for is, when he first started at Barca he got rid of negative influences and brought in youngsters while getting back to the "Barca" way....then he fell for his own hype and now comes across a bit nasty, a bit too full of himself and frankly over reliant on being given a stable of top players. Who did he actually improve at Bayern? And Citeh? Who has he coached up (to use, I think, an American phrase).

Getting into their ballpark in regards to revenue would take a long, long time. Their commercial income is massive and that's purely down to having so many fans. Their fanbase has come about from dominating the most popular league in the world for 2 decades.

The only thing we can hope for is this NFL thing becoming a massive game changer.
