Never heard that take on him before. He plays the dummy but I've never linked that to race.

Maybe it’s just me being overly sensitive, growing up in the early 90’s when the only black people on TV was Andy Peters, Mr Motivatior and Denzil I got a bit of a bee in my bonnet about misrepresentation...

Chris Kamara is a throw back to when you needed to act like that to make it as a black man.

That doesn’t explain how Charlie Nicholas got a job as a pundit.

Trevor mcdonald? Lenny henry might have started as a comedian but moved into children in need and ran that?
I agree there aren't that many that i can remember. But most tv presenters have to be able to have a laugh, we don't want to watch angry moody people on tv whatever their colour. Unless it's paxman.

There are a lot of people going off on tangents about racism. I'm not buying some of it and I'm usually one of the people attributing things to racism when others don't.

Let's focus back: the main issue here is that Collymore accused Wright of being an Uncle Tom. That's not only incredibly insulting, it's also unsupportable. Since his retirement, Ian Wright has carefully styled his image as a well-to-do, stylishly-dressed and confident middle-class Black man, without having to crush his spontaneity or his sense of fun. He's managed to look and sound socially-mobile, without abandoning his roots, his personality or his accent.

I'm not sure Stan Collymore is well-placed to tell other Black men what kind of behaviour is acceptable from a Black man in the media. Ian Wright seems at home in himself. Stan Collymore, who is a highly intelligent guy, despite his sometimes erratic behaviour and mental health problems, might want to think hard about why he resents Ian Wright.

As for the person who suggested that mixed race people are "White": pffft! Society and bigotry say otherwise.

Can't believe our opponents fans have nothing better to do than debate Stan Collymore and possible racism.

Bastards, derailing our thread on us. I blame Trump.

Whilst I agree Collymore is a cock of the highest order. As a black or shall I say mixed raced bloke myself I do kind of agree about Chris Kamara, he really makes me cringe because I think he plays on the stereo type of being black, stupid but funny.

Like denzil in only fools and horses
Disagree on Kamara, he just lets his emotion and passion out as that’s his style, no different to someone like Jonathan Pearce in his Capital Gold days. He doesn’t come across as a dummy, just as a bit emotional and playful, which is fine and endearing. He also comes across as intelligent, and he’s played the ‘Alan Hansen’ role of insightful pundit his entire time on ‘Goals on Sunday’, because he always had to take the lead with genuine football talk as his co presenter has always been a knowledgeless lemming.

Also, if you want people playing the dummy on Sky Sports, it’s Merson, Thompson, etc. In fact, in football punditry everywhere most of the opinion come from fairly uneducated people who lack a bit of a tact and erudition. Ray Parlour, Ally McCoist, Jamie Redknapp, Tony Gale, Michael Owen, Steve McManaman, and many others, all certifiable idiots. Maybe, just maybe, the majority of football fans don’t want too much ‘intelligence’, so if Kamara is dumbing down at all (I don’t think he is), he’s not playing a black stereo type, he’s playing a footballer stereotype!

This!

I would add Micky Quin to that, and obviously collymore. That why listening to the likes of Gary Neville, Henry Winter and Gab Marcotti is so refreshing even if i don't always agree with what they're saying

He is a liability PR wise and hitting a woman never goes down well and is never forgotten, which will permanently tarnish his brand.

To be honest I find it astonishing after all the stuff he's done over the years that anyone is prepared to give him airtime/be associated with him.

Interesting. I've never seen Kamara in that way to be honest. I agree with you that he plays up to the goofy/stupid thing but I'm stuggling to think of anything he does that is specifically a "black" stereotype. Not saying he doesn't, I'm white so perhaps certain things go over my head but I've not noticed anything specifically. What kind of thing do you mean if you don't mind me asking?

@double0 What's your issue with what I've said? I've simply said I've never noticed Kamara playing up to any black stereotypes but accepted that perhaps being white I'm oblivious/ignorant to certain things and missing something obvious so asked about what sort of thing @Lennon1981 means so that I can better understand. I don't really see what I've said wrong to be honest.

Henry Winter is terrible. Zero credentials to talk about how the game is played, tactics etc, yet like most modern day sports ‘journos’, loves the sound of his own voice and thinks he is some kind of deity in the footballing world. His opinion counts as much as the average bloke in the pub.

The foreign guys tend to be good value. They offer a decent insight to how things are on the continent and actually ask questions as opposed to offer ( unwanted ) answers like the English chaps do.

Theres a reason why Winter, Martin and Sid fucking Lowe ( prick of the highest order ) are all being paid a twentieth of what Fat Sam earns a year...someone they often question tactically.

That’s the thing. Football is traditionally a working class sport and nearly every single top footballer is from a working class background ( as are most elite athletes )
Chuck in them usually focusing of football from an early age and not really considering an academic career, its clear to see why they can be classed as uneducated by some.

Luckily, being academically gifted and well educated has no bearing on knowing how football works.

Being uneducated or educated has nothing to do with ‘class’ or academic gifts, all you need to be educated is the will to make it happen, and you can start as a child or as a middle aged man or at any other point. If you have a thirst to broaden yourself and to be more knowledgeable, something usually cultivated by ones parents, then leaving school at 12 to become a footballer shouldn’t affect that. To be uneducated, at least in our privileged western society, is a choice, not something imposed on you.

I agree with you about Henry Winter, he comes across as incredibly self-important and arrogant to me, I can't stand him.

What's your issue with Sid Lowe though if you don't mind me asking? I'm not a massive fan of his or anything but he's always just seemed kind of bland and inoffensive to me, he's not one of these WUM types or anything. Admittedly, I've only ever heard him on the Guardian podcast doing his little 2 minute roundups of La Liga though so he doesn't get much of a chance there to show his "true colours" if he is a prick.

No idea who you mean with "Martin" though so I'll just assume he's a prick :D
