Daily Mail write Erik Lamela is currently training on his own after a scan indicated there was no issue with his "injured" hip. #THFC

Sorry, I've just read the whole article and whilst it's generally reasonable in a "let's speculate about anything because we have no information" kind of way, this part below is completely ridiculous:

With Kyle Walker and Danny Rose providing the width there is little use for Lamela in Spurs’ current formation. It is hard to imagine him putting in the defensive shift required to help out the back three. He is, therefore, less of a miss than he might have been at the beginning of the season.

Firstly, in a 3-4-2-1 formation Lamela quite obviously wouldn't be playing as a wing-back, he'd be playing as one of the 2 behind the striker - a position he would excel at, given that he's generally more effective when playing centrally than he is when he's stuck out wide.

Secondly, the idea that it's hard to imagine Lamela putting in a defensive shift is laughable - even Lamela's biggest critics agree that the one thing you could never take away from him is his incredible amount of defensive work he gets through all over the pitch.

Come on, if you're going to write and promote articles that are fairly click-baity to start with, at least when you talk about the player himself, try and make it look like you've ever watched the guy play.

This. Lamela embodies the Poch Press.

I said a while back that I don't think he will play for us again. The longer time goes by sadly i believe it more and more. Hope there is a way back for him.

The article asks many questions and provides no answers.

I am no better off for having read it.

The catch is you didn't know
until after you had read it.
Now in 3/4 minutes you've saved yourself a lifetime of worrying
whether you should have read itor not.

I agree with @Bobbins .

One of the qualities Lamela brings to the team is his hard working that adds greatly to our defencive solidarity.

He is also no way only able to play in a 4-2-3-1; for Roma I have an idea he played off of their main centre forward although could be wrong.

But like Alli and Eriksen I actually feel he'd be better suited in our wing back system as allows him to play a little more inwards with freedom rather than being more restricted to a wider role.

He'd be a great option to rotate with the above but there is a real concern now that something has happened behind the scenes and this isn't just him not being available as he's injured.

Very strange as you'd think he'd have been quite happy having finally established himself as an integral part of squad after a dodgy first couple of seasons.

Erik clearly has some mental issues. If it is temporary i.e depression, grief, something along those lines, then I could see him getting back to us next season. If it's something more deeprooted and severe, it might not be a case of him never playing for us again but that he may never play football again.

He seems a great lad and I hope to see him out on the pitch soon, whoever that may be for.

He had a back injury when he arrived (on top of settling into a new country and team) and has been absent all season with a hip injury.

In between those two injuries, he has been really good. Last season he got 11 goals and 10 assists, which puts him up there with Eriksen and Alli.

Also, he would quite be possibly better as one of two AMs than at RW. His incisive passing in the final third is one of his main strengths (rather than lightning pace down the wing).

What exactly would make us want to sell him?

Yeah I reckon he would thrive in our 3-4-2-1 system in same way it suits Eriksen and Alli better.

Before this system I was into 3-5-2 and thought Lamela would have been a good option just behind Kane in a strike partnership.

Hopefully he's back next season. I've never seen a guy put a throughball through the eye of a needle like he does so many times with all our willing runners he should excel in this system.

I really need to stop reading these threads. They never bring anything new to the party.

What do you expect? This speculation is purely because the club is keeping everyone in the dark and no one knows what's going on.

At this stage all that is clear is that this is about more than an injury but no one know what.

Do you not understand that if the club is keeping something secret, it's going to be for a very good reason.
