Sorry don't know if there is another thread covering this. But what is the issue with Robbie Keane, We only resigned him 6 months ago, yet there are plenty of rumours concerning him leaving. Has he done something to annoy someone at the club, is this part of HR's "wheelin' n dealin'" or is it all just a load of hot wind?

There is some ITK I think, saying that his attitude is poor, Harry hasn't been impressed since he came back, etc. Hopefully its all bullshit though, I'd be sick if Keane moved on.

We'll see what Keane's attitude is really like when he's not starting as many games as he wants.

My guess is big time sulker!

Indeed, he probably will be, but if he's not happy starting on the bench, when he does come on, he'll get his chance, if he takes it, then its up to Harry to make someone else sulk on the bench.

I agree,

One of my bug bears with Jol was that IMHO sometimes he picked Keane ahead of Defoe because Keane was a sulker and whinger and he found it easier to leave out Defoe!

Competition for places rewarded by performance has to be the way and I hope Harry rewards the in form players whoever they maybe.

Yep, as do I. Hopefully Harry will forget that Defoe is his golden boy and do this. I hope if Pav stays, he gets a good shot too, if Crouch has a dip in form.

From what I recall, he had a sulk in Jol's first season when Defoe was starting ahead of him.

People started to write him off and he was strongly linked away from the club before coming back and having his best 2-3 years of his career which led to his move to Liverpool.

I know he wasn't great after he came back last season but he didn't become a bad player in 4 or 5 short months, and I doubt that he became a total pr*ick in that time either. I think the press just need something to write and it wouldn't have gone unnoticed that so many of us were slating his performances in the last 3 months of last season. Therefore they applied the age old press formula:

good player + poor form + competition for places = about to join Aston Villa.

I've ignored it all summer and I'd advise others to do the same on this occasion.

He has never had a suitable partner since Berbs. He is kinda hard to match up. But when he does, he is mustard.

Another profit for his sale?

I love Keano. But I would be happy if we broke even. He simply does not fit into Spurs current direction.

It is obvious as it stands:

------------Defoe--------Crouch----------
Modric------Palacios----JJ---------Lennon
BAE---------King------Woody------Corky
------------------Gomes-------------------

Is the starting 11. If it isnt, Then 20 million plus for Crouch and Defoe is a massive waste of transfer funds.

I remember reading somewhere that he wasn't happy with one of the clauses Levy put in his contract.

The one where his arm waving was to be used to power our new stadium, thereby making the new WHL into the first eco-stadium, saving us millions of pounds a year.

Oh okay, I dunno, if he's here by the end of the window I'll support him, else I expect we'll receive a decent transfer fee.

I have a feeling he has the potential to form a better partnership with Crouch than Defoe can, provided he's given the chance to prove it.

I see Crouch as a much less talented version of Berbatov - tall(er) man who likes the ball into feet and can come short to get the ball or can equally go long. He strikes me as being an intelligent sort of footballer too (although that I can't substantiate :)) so it could potentially work and this is what Keane thrived on. We'll see and as gibbs said, when Robbie does find a good match - he's the dog's testicles.

Couldnt give a toss if we ship Keane out. When we first signed him I remember Hoddle saying how he 'needed a home' which proved to be right. His inconsistency from his Leeds, Inter and Coventry days was gone and he became the genuine article he'd always shown the promise of becoming.

Then once he went to the bindippers he not only disappointed us all, his inconsistency returned.

Crouch and Defoe is proven - Crouch and Keane isnt.

Here goes with what may possibly be the only spurious bit of ITK I'll ever stumble across...

I heard a whisper the other week that there is currently a major issue with Keane - possibly personal. The person I spoke to said they couldn't be sure exactly what it was, or maybe just didn't want to say.

But apparently neither club nor player feels that the move back to Spurs has worked out at all, and that both parties would give some serious thought to any plausible offer which comes in.

Info might be total balls (I for one hope it is), and I'm happy to tell any mods who I spoke to etc... it's someone who may well be party to this sort of stuff.

I do hate how everyone blasts Keane for "sulking" or "shouting at players", it's called passion and it's something all good players have.

The one thing you get with Keane if he's benched is a man with fire in his belly, he'll sulk, kick up a fuss and do his best to get himself back on that pitch. And when he does he shows the manager just what they're missing out on (Villa Away 05/06).

I know the guy hasnt performed like the old Keano since his return but why not judge every player when pre-season is done and we get to see the new Redknapp Tottenham in the 2009/10 season?

Seem to remember Defoe having a bit of stomp, kicking the odd water bottle, having a pop at Martin Jol?

But that doesn't get mentioned because he's everyone's golden boy!

The same golden boy that would have happily waited until his contract was down to zip before pocketing a fuckload of money. The same golden boy that handed in transfer requests at Charlton and West Ham at inextricably stupid times.

Not being funny, but I'd more concerned about JD's ability to turn and have a sulk than Robbie Keane's - who has in fact always come back from a so-called low with a huge run of goals and form.

Why people still doubt his ability to do this is beyond me.

I can also remember Keane having a pop at Jol, kicking over water bottles in a strop after being subbed and asking for a transfer to the bindippers at a spasticated time.

I can also remember Defoe scoring a comparable amount to Keane with far less minutes on the pitch.

Really? Because that's just wrong.

As for the rest of it. I'm saying it's brought up about Keane 20 times as much as it is about Defoe. I'm not saying either are perfect, but one gets far more stick (unnecessarily) than the other.

There were reports that on the recent China trip he seemed a bit distant from the rest of the Spurs party. If so this rumour may have legs!
