Let's not forget that after 3 games last season we were top of the league without conceding a goal and Arsenal were bottom of the league on zero points. And yet by Easter we were significantly behind them and they had games in hand (yet still fucked it up!). A lot can, and will, happen between now and May.

Arsenal for sure have tougher tests to come, but surely people can't compare our start under Nuno to this. We won the first three games but were fucking awful - strong second half against City but should have been about 4-0 down after 20 minutes, under the cosh for most of the game against Wolves and then scraped a 1-0 with a fluke free-kick that was obviously meant to be a cross against a crap Watford side with pretty much our only attempt of the match - and our star player quite openly wanted to leave. I can see weaknesses in this Arsenal side but they're playing good football and have a hungry young side flying high on confidence - no comparison at all between the two.

Will be amazed if they finish outside the top four again this season, would just be a bottlejob of unimaginable proportions for four other teams to all be better than them again after the money they've spent. If they are lucky on the injury front and bin off the Europa League I can see them coming as high as second, although City will win the title quite comfortably IMO.

I'll try to make more accurate predictions on our part after the next two games. I've worried about our lack of squad depth for some time and think we got away with it to some extent last season having Kane and Son fit for pretty much the whole year, by all accounts it seems Conte's looking to rotate the team a bit in the next two games so if we're able to win both and keep the pace while resting players then things look good for us.

I wasn't comparing their start to ours performance wise. I was trying to illustrate that the first 3 or 4 games means fuck all in the big scheme of things. Just getting fed up with all my fellow spurs fans who are suddenly scared Arsenal are prime Barcelona - they are not. The season is long, let's see how things lie in Feb / Mar.

The early impression is that City are beatable but are clear favourites.

Liverpool might have a slightly slower start while the adjust to not having Mane and a few injuries but still go in as 2nd favourites.

Chelsea's potential demise hasn't happened and they've bought well and look strong.

Arsenal are looking better and have made a few good purchases while Saliba and Gabriel are looking good in centre back and Odegaard is settling in very well.

The rest of the teams just don't look like a challenge.

I think we're behind City and Liverpool and around the same level as Chelsea but in the long run ahead of Arsenal.

Slight change in my league finish prediction now the window has come to a close and we are 5 games in.

Still think we stand a solid chance at 4th again.

We slip though and we'll be in a little trouble I fear.

Now 3 points against Fulham please.

First difficult game for Arsenal and they lost. Not helped by Arteta making all those changes at 2-1 when they were massively on top.

I'd love to see a new poll after the window has closed and see the results. I'm guessing many people will be downgrading to around 4th now

The most popular picks were 3rd and 4th which still look the two most likely outcomes.

It seems really open though, any of Liverpool/Us/Arsenal/Chelsea/Utd could end up missing out and I think Brighton could end up in the mix. We're in a strong position though from our start.

Not for me. I predicted 3rd with us battling Chelsea for that spot. Liverpool's drop off could be worse than many think. If anything I am more positive about us finishing higher in the league.

I can't see us finishing above City, but the others are fair game.

It’s way too early to sort out anything but a rough top 8, which would be the usual 6 big clubs plus the footballing excellence of Brighton and perhaps one other - Newcastle if Howe can get them functioning more smoothly.

So much will depend on injuries to key players, depth of squads and plain chance. It’s a nonsensical game to try to distinguish between any of these clubs after 6 matches.

People tend to confuse reputation with what is visible on the pitch. How many points separated these teams last May has no effect on this season.

Except Man City.

Predicting the league is certainly a minefield. Injuries and unexpected circumstances can, and almost always does, play a huge part.

But on assessing the competition my view is:

Man City to win the league. They have best squad and Haaland is the goalscorer they've wanted since Aguero left. They are the clear favourites for this season.

Liverpool could struggle with the loss of Mane and a few of their best pros are getting old. They're 2nd strongest but could be vulnerable.

Ourselves and Chelsea are solid and have excellent managers and have made some good purchases.

Arsenal are weak. They've made some good purchases but still have so much work to do. They messed up last season despite ourselves and Utd changing managers midseason and them having no European football. They have more to deal with this season.

Utd also have a lot of work to do. Their squad is disjointed and they have no structure at the top. They're relying on a new coach to the league to turn things around. It could happen, but it's a big job.

Newcastle and Brighton are good sides but the gap between the top 6 and the rest is large. I just don't think they'll have strong enough squad to compete over the season. The rest are an irrelevance to the top 6 race.

I wouldn't bet any money on my above predictions as the league is a marathon with lots of hurdles.

This is spot on, for me. Good start by us, and we have reason to be confident; but the big 6 will be there or there abouts, and there are wild cards (as you’ve mentioned) who will take points off people for sure.

I can’t think of a stronger time for the Prem. The standard and quality is super high IMO - no easy games, lots of players capable of doing something special.

Outside of City, it’s fine margins for most others.

I'm so glad Arsenal lost today. They were really starting to get ahead of themselves.
City are a country mile ahead and will walk the league I suspect. Everyone else is a crap shoot with Liverpool having the slight advantage currently equalised due to injuries

I think there are a few factors hers that should give us a lot of encouragement.

We've only dropped 4 points despite our tricky start.

We've drawn away at two of our deadliest rivals, places we have tended to lose at.

We have made 11 points on last season's 'game for game' comparison.

We haven't been at full tilt yet. Still, we are picking up points

Our new buys are still adapting.

Sonny hasn't got firing yet.

We are going to lose points, the league is simply too tough for that to not happen but we are in a very good place.

Only 8, if you count equivalent matches against promoted (1, 2 & 3) and relegated (18, 19 & 20) opponents.

Southampton +3
Chelsea +1
Wolves +3
Forest (Norwich) 0
West Ham +1
Fulham (Burnley) 0

I guess I've been a bit more in favour of us by replacing Forest with Burnley and Fulham with Watford.

Bournemouth compared to Norwich as they are the whipping boys (IMO)

I've gone more for stature and style of the team rather than where they finished but I guess you're probably more accurate.

I think it will be a 2 horse race between us and city, but they are too strong. A lot of people here laughing at me when I say we are the second best team, but I just don’t see Liverpool the same team without Mane. It would be like us losing Kane. We would drop down a level significantly. It’s not a player that is easily replaceable. I always feared Mane more when than Salah when we played Liverpool. Chelsea might get their shit together, but as of now they are blowing hot and cold.

I wouldn't get to carried away as other than Chelsea we have played teams that we would expect to beat if we are to be serious challengers for top 4 and to be fair we haven't looked to great yet. The test on our chances will be over the next few weeks when we meet top 4 challengers like City, Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool and Even Brighton who are looking good at the moment. I predicted 4th before the season started and I stand by that but I think it will be a lot harder than expected. But to say it's a two horse race with us and City is a little over the top don't you think or just wishful thinking.
