We just need to be patient.

We are not finishing in the top 4.

We will improve and we are seeing improvements.

Converting possession into clear cut chances. Even today against a very poor team we didn't work enough proper chances. Hit the bar from two long shots, both of the goals were fairly scrappy. the three behind the forward all want to drive in field and we have no threat on the outside. We also have a lack of genuine pace in key areas going forward.

Wow, could not agree with you more, word for word.

Our defending looks like a comedy hour most of the time. Still lacking creativity and ingenuity in the final third.

You stick walker, Jan and fazio into a back four and possibly Davies and we will have a decent defence. Today's issue was not getting the third goal.

I thought Rose was the best of the back four today. He has continued to impress me immensely this season, despite not having any real increase in defensive coverage from a traditional winger.

Top four is a complete long shot this season, it really is.

Next season? I think we'll be right in the mix under Poch and could even surprise a few - ie perhaps even better.

Curious to hear your thoughts on where and/or how we still need to improve.

Let's keep it civil please folks, let people express their ideas without being outed for anything original. Likewise, let's please keep emotional negativity to a minimum. This isn't a thread to vent, but rather to express and exchange ideas.

So have at it then, I wish to pick your brains.

I haven't seen the game today.... yet.

But I wish we didn't have to play Dier at RB. He's clearly going to be a great CB but he's not a RB. Kaboul is way off the pace and needs to be dropped and hopefully Fazio is a better replacement. I'd really like a goalscorer in the January window. I'm not convinced any of our front 3 are going to score enough goals.

No chance of top four unless We buy real quality certainly up front although if New owners come in then anything is possible.

While we will undoubtedly improve, I believe there are deficiencies in the larger squad that can only be rectified by net spending in future transfer windows. When we needed a goal late in the game, our options were essentially down to Lennon and Townsend. What happens if Eriksen, Lamela, or Chadli get hurt for a prolonged period of time?

Assuming we don't finish in the top 4, will Pochettino be given a modicum of cash above player sales to add a few pieces of quality without sacrificing quality players going out in future transfer windows to have us close the gap? People like to compare him to Rodgers early on at Liverpool, but we have to remember that John Henry has allowed Rodgers to spend over 210 million pounds since he took over, and they have a total net spend of 90 million pounds. If Rodgers was working under the same no net spend conditions as our managers have over the last 4 years, then he'd probably be out of a job by now.

Right now Pochettino's top objective should be to integrate all of his best players in his starting XI. I liked seeing Dembele out there. Now we need to get Fazio, Paulinho and Soldado involved, too.

Some sections of our support.

Accept its going to take some time, get behind the manager and the team.
I not seen any of our support not get behind the manager, I have seen that our support doesnt get behind our team and abuse them from the sidelines

Not really, Poch has a good history of getting his teams playing his way quick and having a great first season.

The current top 4 is Chelsea, Swansea, Aston Villa and Southampton.

I think Poch will get us closer than last season. Him doing a good job imo, isn't getting top 4 but doing well against the top 4.(getting more than 1 point)

We need a top class striker so we can start putting teams away rather than getting sucker punched. We should have been 2 or 3 goals clear today but never killed them off and sunderland kept believing

I know Ade has a lot of fans on here but he's just not clinical enough to help us take that final big step

Time will sort out most of our problems. I'm not expecting a top 4 finish but if a big offer comes in for a player like Lloris, Vertonghen and Eriksen will Levy turn it down? I've seen little to suggest that he would and the only way we can get top 4 is by 1) Giving our manager time and 2) Not selling our best players. We need a pacey winger with end product in January and a pacey striker. Right now we have no real speed in our attack, we need more options. I'm sure our defense will sort itself out once Vertonghen, Fazio and Walker get settled back in.

We'll clearly our defence is still a mess and though it's early days it's hard to see where Poch is trying to get a strong settled back four. Was Jan injured today? didn't read about it and if not why play Vlad? Why persist with Rose. If you are going to change a CB why not give Fazio a chance ahead of Kaboul. OK Dier has been forced into the RB role so unavoidable and despite his inexperience I'd rather him play there than Naughton.

I thought we showed far better movement today which was good and early on we showed far more intensity and desire to get the ball forward. Sadly as the game wore on we lost that intensity and played too many back and side passes. For all the the movement, passing and interchanging were good, just our final ball and shooting letting us down. Granted in and around the box generally there's less time but a few occasions we just smashed a shot rather than placed it and so we wasted good chances

It all takes time to gel I guess the more we press and attack the less exposed our defence is but I would not be surprised to see more changes in January. As for the rest I still feel we need another LW/AML with skill and vision and another striker option just to give us better choice for games when you might need to simply change your approach play, we could have done with a strong aerial attacker today to be more of a threat at corners and free kicks. It's amazing that we still look so weak aerially in attack and equally as weak defensively. At least Fazio should give us more aerial strength at the back whenever he gets his chance

It was a figure of speech, point being just support. No need to be so pedantic.

Sorry Pinky, but your perfect logic and sense that you have just displayed have no place here on SC or amongst Spurs fans, take it elsewhere please.

Killing games off early. Part of not conceding is making it exceedingly difficult for your opponent to build momentum.

We had several chances to kill the game but we didnt. Some serious work is needed on finishing.

Its no coincidence that they rallied towards the end of the game. We exposed our lack of decisiveness and they capitalized on that.

I will say that I like what I'm seeing so far. We look dangerous in possession and difficult to contain. All thats missing is that final ball.
