I ain't seen much of us this season. How are we playing these days, are we pressing as much as pochs team was at Southampton? Creating more chances?

It was a figure of speech, point being just support. No need to be so pedantic.
I wasn't trying being pedantic, I think Pochettino will get more support then any manager has got when they took over. Since it cant really go wrong 6/7th is understandable.

Certain players however are getting abuse directed during matches and the supporters aren't getting behind the team as say we did when Jol was in charge

Cool. Any idea as to how? You think having Fazio and Verts in there is going to do the trick?

I hope so yes. TBH my comment was posted out of frustration at dropping 2 points in a game I thought we performed well in. Now I've had a chance to cool down a bit I actually feel pretty optimistic about the season ahead. At this early stage performances are more important than results and today we played well.

I still think we can improve on our tempo on the ball though and would like to see Soldado have a run of games instead of Ade. Ade is great at holding the ball up and relieving pressure but I feel he slows our play down at times. Today we dominated the midfield and camped mostly in their half so we didn't really need an 'outlet'. I think the intelligence and quick thinking of Soldado would have opened them up more and I thought we looked at our most fluid in pre season when Soldado played up top and linked with the attacking mids.

I think Poch is really going to get our front men playing some good football. Love his philosophy of the front 4 being fluid, and how he wants them to press from the front. My concern is just our usual lapses in concentration at the back. The lack of a leader there to organise the back 4. I don't think Vertonghen or Kaboul do this well enough, so I hope Fazio will go some way to help that considering that he was such an influential character at Sevilla.

I'm also concerned about our striker and whether we will get as many goals as we should out of them. I like Adebayor, but I don't think he's a good finisher at all. His composure is poor and does his best when he's got no time to think. He also spends too much time outside of the box and too far away from where he should be to receive the ball in goalscoring positions. Whether Soldado would do better I don't know. Last season he did seem to drift out wide all the time but I felt that he did so because he found himself with very little support. Our attacking mids are supporting and influencing a lot more so it'd be nice to see how Bobby gets on with them. I think he's less inclined to hold the ball up and take as many touches than Ade, as well as being better at lay offs and one touch passing, which may suit our new attacking style better.

Ultimately, I'm pretty content with how we're looking going forward. Just the same issues in defence really.

Kill the opponent off when we are on top and dominating.

We are so bad at doing this and it is what separates the top teams from the rest.

I fucking hate it when we are 2-1 up away from home and go into that tippy tappy, slow the play down cruise control mode, because it just offers the initiative back to the opponent.

It's the equivalent to a boxer having his opponent on the ropes and then taking 5 minutes for a cup of tea. All it takes is one decent punch and you're back in trouble so why allow them that inch?

So, what do I want? Killer instinct.

Oh and a couple of players on the pitch who actually vocally demand this from the team, drive us on and don't allow us to collectively get lazy.

For the life of me I cannot see who would do that for us, but that's for another thread...

We have the players for the job both offensively and defensively but they need to work and think together more. Whether it being defending from a set play or making the correct pass instead of shooting or vice versa. The key is they need to improve their concentration! Plus we need a Captain

Pressing and creating more than we did last year, but still far off from Poch's Saints. Is okay though, considering how little time we've had at this point. I'm imagine we're probably likely further along than Saints were at this point with him, but that's partially due to his experience and the fact our guys have had a preseason with him.

Dont think your see the best of us until maybe New year If i recall it Took six months to get the Saints playing that way.
In all honesty it might take the whole season to get it right so next year should see what We are about.

Late draw a thorn for Rose

Kane's so able!

Harry Kane fired home two free-kicks as our Under-18s beat Watford 3-2 in the Premier Academy League on Friday.

Kane so able in USA

Harry Kane had the perfect 19th birthday present - 90 minutes for the first team against Liverpool.

I think we could improve the headlines on our official site so that we're not subjected to tabloid puns after every match. I even saw another Kane is Able article more recently but I couldn't find it on the site's search function. There are many more examples of this kind of headline too, sort it out Levy! (unless they're your own puns in which case, well done sir! BSODL for life)

We need to press more as a unit. A lot of the players seemed to do it sporadically yesterday

The defence need to stop being afraid.. those red cards and fucking hammerings last season really seem to have made a psychological dent

i tried to track Ade yesterday, but couldn;t figure out what patten he was trying to play to.. think we may need to put Kane or Soldado up top for a few games..

.. but overall going in the right direction ... (y)

We'll clearly our defence is still a mess and though it's early days it's hard to see where Poch is trying to get a strong settled back four. Was Jan injured today? didn't read about it and if not why play Vlad? Why persist with Rose. If you are going to change a CB why not give Fazio a chance ahead of Kaboul. OK Dier has been forced into the RB role so unavoidable and despite his inexperience I'd rather him play there than Naughton.

I thought we showed far better movement today which was good and early on we showed far more intensity and desire to get the ball forward. Sadly as the game wore on we lost that intensity and played too many back and side passes. For all the the movement, passing and interchanging were good, just our final ball and shooting letting us down. Granted in and around the box generally there's less time but a few occasions we just smashed a shot rather than placed it and so we wasted good chances

It all takes time to gel I guess the more we press and attack the less exposed our defence is but I would not be surprised to see more changes in January. As for the rest I still feel we need another LW/AML with skill and vision and another striker option just to give us better choice for games when you might need to simply change your approach play, we could have done with a strong aerial attacker today to be more of a threat at corners and free kicks. It's amazing that we still look so weak aerially in attack and equally as weak defensively. At least Fazio should give us more aerial strength at the back whenever he gets his chance

why persist with Rose? Perhaps its because he is playing well. Sorry, but that statement made me question the veracity of the rest of your comments :)

Rose playing well? Couldn't disagree more. Rose might not be looking so consistently bad because we are attacking and holding possession in advanced areas a bit more, but that doesn't mean he's playing well. As soon as the opposition attacks him he looks his usual poor defensively devoid self. Going forward he's a willing enough runner but he rarely puts it to any good affect, hitting and hoping whether it's a shot, cross or anything above a short pass rather than looking to find a player with a measured ball or getting an accurate shot on target

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm trying to imply here. My post was not a complaint, but one rather on a positive note. I'm aware of the Schneiderlin interview, and I would guess we are further along than they were at this point in time with him (season-wise).

We need more runs in behind the defense and also off the main striker simply to pull defenders away and to occupy different areas on the pitch. It's all well and good that our players like to show for the ball, but in order to make space for things to actually happen we need guys pulling the defense away from the areas we want to exploit. I still feel as though we don't do it enough.

Eriksen did it once yesterday that I noticed upon live viewing of the match. The run was ignored and I think if we just simply paid it some attention, made the attempt to complete the ball over the top it'd put another thought into defenses minds.

I agree with this. I was at the match yesterday and it was noticeable that when one of our players has the ball we are still lazy with the movement, the worst offenders are stood still and as you say a lot of players are making the same movements showing for the ball and the consequence is that we have a lot of play in front of the opposition. More questions need to be posed. I thought our best moments were when we got Chadli or Rose in down the left, a purposeful run that stretched/worried Sunderland and got us in behind the defence for example. When the sub was made I thought we lost a bit of purpose to the attacks and the ability to stretch their defensive organisation.

As a collective it is going to take time, but currently individuals are doing their own thing somewhat rather than playing as a team and different components complementing each other. The team aspect of thing is also not really there with our pressing game. Lamela is rushing around with precious little help. Individuals are battling away when its in their immediate area but consistent co-ordinated pressing attempts have been few and far between in these first few games in my opinion.

I think we both maybe have crossed wires as Im not complaining either just saying it will take time to get things right.
As for the schneiderlin interview i dont know anything about it so never mentioned it but anyway i hope we really start to click soon it could be exciting times.
