Cheers chaps, remember that happening at the time. What I was wondering though, was that Ackie's post seemed to be implying that we might be back in for Begovic - if so, what would our ongoing dealings with Portsmouth have to do with that as Begovic is now a Stoke player: we'd be negotiating with Stoke, not Pompey, surely?

Might have just not got the gist of Ackie's post and we're not back in for Begovic.
Apologies...my bad. They owe us money! Sorry lads.
However, we do need a younger, excellent, trustworthy, strong who doesn't flap or spill the ball GK.

Fair play, cheers Ackie, just had hold of the wrong end of the stick. Thanks for clearing that up. :)

Apologies but I disagree... the issue is he tries to clear everything, but often comes off his line and clears precisely nothing.

His punching has been pretty poor and I have lost count of the open net opportunities that the opposition have had as a result of a Gomes lying on the floor after jumping into a gaggle of players.

Gomes can be excellent, but he is too erratic and I have always said so. Keeping is about consistency and breeding confidence in your defence so that they know what they are doing (because they know what you are going to do).

Plus Gomes is always picking up little niggles, whether genuine or exagerated... Friedal has played a record number of consecutive games! Stability!!!

Friedal is a short term sensible option until either Gomes steps up or we sign someone else.

Good luck to Gomes, I hope he comes good either for us or elsewhere.

R.

No need to apologise!

I naturally disagree with that, and will point to the rapid decline of goals conceded from crosses/set pieces since Gomes came to the club once, compared to the Robbo days it isn't even close.

You mention that the defence are unsure of what he is going to do, I disagree, they know exactly what he is going to do - he's going to come for everything and be proactive. With Robinson they didn't know whether he was coming or going, I'm not sure even Robbo did, and hence we conceded goals by the bucketload from crosses into the box. Gomes eliminated this, it may be flamboyant and unusual to see from your Joe average keeper, but if you look past the odd calamity the greater good is, I think, plainly obvious to see.

Harry lates t interview.
Here is what he says on Gomes:
One player who will start tomorrow is goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes. The Brazilian was Redknapp's number one last season but has not been on the bench for the last three games thanks to the form of new signing Brad Friedel and the re-emergence of Carlo Cudicini.
Gomes has been linked with a return to former club PSV, but Redknapp added: "I think he does have a future with Tottenham.
"He's obviously upset he's been left out. It's been difficult. I brought Brad in, there's competition for places and I just decided to go with Brad. It was my gut feeling."

Watford promoted.

Made up for the guy.(y)

Good. Hate it for Zola that he wasn't a part of it, but I felt so badly for their fans after two years ago. Screwed over by goalkeeper injuries putting a kid in an awful situation. I suspect that kid still has PTSD from that.

Still remember that 20 minutes he had late on vs Arsenal at the end of the season we made the UCL. Absolutely incredible, saved us as they piled on pressure. Still have RVP's facial expressions in my head as he got robbed twice by Gomes.

Prone to a blunder a bit too often, but I've seen him make some saves that not even Lloris could make.

Delighted for him, hopefully he gets a big reception at the Lane next season.

Looking forward to seeing Gomes back in the Premier League. Mainly because I can't wait to see how many times he pretends to be injured after a spectacular howler.

He certainly had his moments, but I had less respect for him than Ghaly.

Just can't understand how he got from being a good keeper suddenly turned shaky.

Bottle job.

He was great in Holland, but an embarrassment under the spot-light of the Prem. I had a soft spot for him, but I also wasn't blind to the fact that he was a pathetic individual who would fake injuries after yet another fuck up. Shameful footballer.

You know what's more pathetic than your neg reps without explanation? Watching Gomes curl up into a little ball after face-palming the ball into the back of his own net.

Fuck Gomes. And you guys....meh, I can't be arsed bothering with people with amnesia or two day's worth of Spurs-fan experience. (y)
