In answer to the OP, perhaps he finally took up the South Stand on their invite and is making his way through (literally) 8,633 housewives as we speak.

My missus tells me he has made a start, not sure how she knows but she assures me he has! :)

He may be doing it as we speak.

As usual, we're speculating on very few facts.

I like speculating! Harry says he wants out. Doesn't sound too promising, SpurSince57.

And why couldn't he "get inside his head" last autumn when he was losing the plot?

Gomes isn't a Harry buy, he was here when he turned up, its only natural a manager will want his own goalkeeper at some point, and if we need to 'get inside his head and sort him out' more than once, it might be more hassle than its worth.

As Gomes is our youngest first team goalkeeper I would prefer him to stay and carlo leave. I do question the mind of a player who has a bad season, and then is not prepared to admit to it, who then wants out as soon as somebody else (note not better in my opinion than him) comes in.

I love Gomes' eccentricity, I think he has been fun at the Lane, but he has cost this team a lot of the last few seasons. I think that a young good goalkeeper has got to be on the shopping list.

The fact that Gomes wants to leave tells you everything about his mentality. Anyone worth their salt would want to buckle down and regain their place.

He had a terrible spell when he first joined and if anything the one last season was even worse.

Friedel is a stop gap but is an upgrade on Gomes

Hard to disagree with this. It is unfortunate that the majority of our signings (arguably all) this summer are stop gaps, albeit good ones.

So nothing from the man himself, just a quote from a guy known to be elastic with the truth!

Didn't Gomes tweet that he wanted to stay or is that me making it up in my mind?

I'd imagine the possibility of that is fairly remote unfortunately. He's been replaced, stripped of his role even as backup, and Harry has said he's off in January.

One thing of which we can be pretty sure is that Harry has never been totally sold on Gomes. It's already been pointed out that this is rather odd considering he was a big fan of the similarly erratic James, but do we expect consistency from managers?

Gomes' form last autumn was OK; it fell off markedly over the second half of the season.

It's pretty obvious that Harry brought Friedel in not only because he was unhappy with Gomes, but because he didn't think Cudicini was good enough to take over the No. 1 spot either. From that point on, everything's got to be surmise. We know, insofar as we know anything, that Harry lays a great deal of emphasis on what players have shown in training. If Friedel's shown more, he's going to get the nod. Has Gomes thrown a wobbly? Quite possibly, if Parks thought his head wasn't right.

One thing that Harry won't like (and a lot of SC members don't like) is Gomes' hamming it up over minor injuries. It won't go down too well if he's chucked his rattle out of the pram over being dropped instead of knuckling down in training. No matter how high your stock with Harry, if you fall out of favour for whatever reason it's liable to be Goodnight Vienna, just as it is with Ferguson. See Keane after the "Sure, lads, Harry'll never suspect a thing" 'Golfing Weekend'.
