Where is Wimmer?

Because our LCB was injured, not our RCB

I understand which foot they each use, but apparently we're the only club on the planet which plays players based on that one aspect. I've not seen it happen anywhere else - clubs play their best players, and he has proven himself to be our third best CB (Dier really isn't even that great at CB at all). Whilst building CB partnerships which complement each other based on their favoured foot is a nice idea if you can do it, it's very rare and many teams have two right footed players playing together - and work just fine.

The suspicion will always be that Poch doesn't rate Wimmer while he continues to leave him out, even when he's needed. Which many fans think is a shame, despite the page after page of you replying to every single post with one of various hundreds of reasons you've pulled out of a hat with "TRUST POCH" written on the side of it. Whilst Poch gets to see what we don't, you can't blame fans for questioning the decisions since the only thing we've seen of Wimmer in a spurs shirt is his faultless run of performances, where he performed better than Vertonghen, last season.

We play defenders on their strongest side, Poch has constantly done that since he's been at the club save some points in the 2014/15 season as he was still getting his defence together, he did it at Southampton and Espanyol as well. The reason for this is simple...playing CB's on their strongest sides aids our possesion game, allows us to move the ball more freely from the back, when the CB's are spread out rather than defenders turning in and using their weaker foot or playing a hospital pass leavinng us in danger when the team are in transition.

You're a bit spikey aren't you, there's nothing in my post that suggests the rubbish you've written, it's just very simple logic if you took a min to understand it you'd probably realise that it actually makes sense, it's not merely down to ability, it's a vital component to the way we play.

Questioning why we we want our CBs to be right and left footed accordingly falls apart with even the slightest of analysis i.e. our defensive record has been absolutely brilliant with this orientation. Yes, Wimmer was great when he came in last season, but put him on 'the other' side and I don't think it will have nearly the same results. Dier is perfect.

And it's not just possession and passing. Defending a player on the left side is easier if you're left footed (or two footed). Defenders tackling with their wrong foot doesn't work as well.

Because you know...people always think they know best for some bizarre reason, despite us having the best defence in the league but no let's try and upset that because they feel sorry for a fan favourite.

I'm sure it's also to do the with the way the two central defenders are required to cover the full backs in wide positions with the dm falling back into the centre. Both Toby and Jan can do this well. As much as I like Wimmer I think Dier is more suited to covering Walker out wide on the right than a left Footed Jan or Wimmer would be.

My theory which I am not 100% certain about is that Wimmer was bought to make profit on. I think it was a signing I questioned at the time because we had Dier and CCV coming through. I think Wimmer is done, but I hope that I'm wrong.

Wimmer is a better CB than Dier though (at this stage), I don't really buy this right foot left foot nonsense

Something is rotten. Prior to Toby's injury Poch could have rested Vertonghen or done a sub for Wimmer in a game or two. Keep the squad happy and keep the players fresh and ready.

Agree. And considering even Trippier gets CL games..
