I don't know why all this speculation. If Jan had been injured instead of Toby at the weekend then most likely Wimmer would have come in yesterday

Alderweireld and vertonghen can both play fullback too, and our fullbacks are also wingers.
Dier is a DM, right back and CB. Even Lloris can play sweeper when needed.
It seems it just is not good enough these days to be good in one position only.

Snippet from Standard article:

Noticeably, Pochettino was in a tense mood while conducting his post-match duties.

He took great exception to one question over whether defender Kevin Wimmer’s future at the club was in jeopardy, given he did not even make the substitutes’ bench despite Toby Alderweireld being absent due to a knee injury.

“When a player is not in my plans, I tell you quickly but first I tell the player,” said Pochettino. “Kevin's in my plans, but when I put him on the bench, another player needs to be put out. Tell me which player you'd switch with him?

“I'm the manager and I always need to find balance on the bench. Ben Davies can play as a centre-back or as a full-back. I needed another right, not another left in Germany. If something happened with Dier or Kieran Trippier, I needed a right foot. So the decision is to give balance to the bench and the team if something happens.”

Right-footed teenager Cameron Carter-Vickers appears to have moved ahead of Wimmer in the Tottenham pecking order and Pochettino added: “Cameron shows in every session he is at the same level as others. Sometimes it's Cameron, sometimes Kevin, sometimes Ben Davies, sometimes Trippier, sometimes Walker.”

Poch clearly states his reasons for Wimmer not being on bench (Davies was able to cover centre back / left back so he needed a right footed option).

So you'd hope people stop making up silly speculation about it in the media and to a lesser extent on here.

But I somehow doubt it.

I guess Poch didn't want to go with two left footed centre backs which is why he chose Dier instead.

Seems odd logic to leave out a superior player based on having a LB that can fill in at CB. So if Jan went off, would Davies have come on and not CCV?

I hope we are all reading far too much into it, and looking for a problem that isn't there as I really rate Big Kev

Verts has played every PL game and every international game from the start of the season. Rest the guy give Wimmer a game and keep him happy fresh and focused. That cant be hard. There are teams in this league who are not scoring play him then.

Wouldn't blame the guy should he wish to leave really.

He doesn't need easy street, he's good enough to handle anything. The guy totally proved himself when verts was injured last season; he gave everything. I don't like the way he's being treated.

You mean other players are doing better in training, and being selected ahead of him? You don't like that?
