Where is Wimmer?

The most likely explanation is Poch doesn't rate him as highly as his other options. Poch seems quite straight with his players if there was some sinister undercurrent he'd have moved him on. Like in every other example.

Something is rotten. Prior to Toby's injury Poch could have rested Vertonghen or done a sub for Wimmer in a game or two. Keep the squad happy and keep the players fresh and ready.
I was calling for Wimmer to get some prem games prior to Verts injury last season, I am sure if Verts did not get injured Wimmer still would be waiting to play a full game in the premier.

^ If that's the case then I question Poch's mental faculities because he was superb when deputising for Jan last season, rock solid no nonsense and excellent distribution

I'd love to get some ITK on this

Wimmer is a better CB than Dier though (at this stage), I don't really buy this right foot left foot nonsense

Something is rotten in Denmark

Buy it or don't, but it's abundantly clear Poch adheres to it, people have pointed out why many times in tactical analyses, and we've beaten this to death.

With wingbacks sitting higher up the pitch, for both passing and tackling purposes, it is advantageous to have the CB's on their strong feet facing outwards. In this high line system with high wingbacks system, one weak-footed mistake from the two CB's, regardless of how good these guys are, can be extremely costly. There is a reason to Poch's rhyme on this matter, and it's so boring seeing it come up so often. The man played CB in a World Cup Final ffs, what right do you or anyone have to question this man on his own position?

As for something stinking, I agree with you on that. I don't understand why Wimmer can't even beat CCV to the bench after his performances in Vertonghen's absence last term. This is a very confusing absence from the teams, and it does reek of something behind the public eye.

I do prefer defefenders to be on the correct side, the problem is Dier passed today like he had two left feet.

For me, I think Wimmer was always bought as one for the future, I believe I remember hearing/reading that Spurs coaches did not expect any instant impact from him. I firmly think that in the case of Wimmer, it is simply a manner of buckling down and remember that he is being paid to train, not to play. Long term patience will pay off for him, and he has every chance at becoming a given starter for Spurs.

Yeah I think he's lost a bit of confidence recently, and that's understandable given how football has been to him since the summer. He's young, facing a lot of pressure in from various sides, and facing his first real competition at the club. I suspect it'll take him some time to come around, but I have full confidence in the guy to pull it off and get back to where he needs to be mentally.

I think you answered this in your first part. With Walker out, we had Davies on the bench as the FB sub. If an injury occurred, Davies could step in for Rose or Vertonghen. If an injury occurred to Dier or Trippier, then Poch probably wanted a right-footed defender to be able to step in - CCV.

Agreed and I also think that it takes time to get used to that position again. It's not as easy as slotting in.

Also he didn't have many options when passing because of how they pushed us today

You're right, and I'd have to go back to look at old named squads to review the times when CCV was named to the bench with another fullback to have a look at this. I would guess that not every time has included CCV and a LB, but that might be the case nonetheless. Good point though.

Don't know why we're not even giving him bench time. Dude's gonna bolt. Stupid; he's a proper good player.
Because it wouldn't make sense.

It would be pointless having two defenders on the bench and obviously the preference is to have one right footed and one left footed. Apparently he's terrible when played at fullback and Dier is a better fullback than Jan so it would make sense to have the left footed defender a fullback and the right footed defender a CB.

I hope he gets a start soon, really would hate to see him wanting out as he is going to be absolutely brilliant. He's bloody good already for such a young man

The section of the forum who think the footedness of a CB isn't important are the same people who ignore other major game issues - such as crowd volume/happiness on player psychology, Janssen coming off not because he played poorly (or because Poch is an idiot) but because he's exhausted and can no longer function in his role, etc etc etc the list goes on. These things are all important in a Sunday league game, its compounded at the top level. It's as if half the people on this forum have never actually played a game of football, it's basic stuff.

If you can't play a pass easily as soon as you receive the ball you're at a disadvantage. If you hear the crowd booing you're at a disadvantage. If you can't run short sprints at 100% anymore due to fatigue you are at a disadvantage. A game between two equally matched teams will often be heavily influenced by whoever has the least amount of these disadvantages, barring any moments of magic or major mistakes.

Poch made and will continue to make a good choice of not playing Wimmer at RCB, regardless of who the other options are. Poch made a good substitution by replacing Janssen after he reached the point of no return with his energy levels. The crowd performed well tonight as well, pushing us over the line for the last 15 minutes or so, or at least avoiding to turn on the players for a half we were clearly inferior in.

All this stuff is important at elite level sport. To suggest otherwise is just ignorance.

I know this is a Wimmer thread, but Dier clearly has lost confidence and form. Does he have a new lady? Some form of distraction?

Verts has played every PL game and every international game from the start of the season. Rest the guy give Wimmer a game and keep him happy fresh and focused. That cant be hard. There are teams in this league who are not scoring play him then.

Wouldn't blame the guy should he wish to leave really.

I think Wimmer was hoodwinked into signing a new contract, it was done so we could get more money for him IMO. A lot of people don't mind that kind of behavior but I don't think it's very honorable.
