Who would you have to replace Gomes?

Benaglio
Adler
Neuer
Lloris
Akinfeev
Mandanda
De Gea
McGregor

All would be somewhat realistic, some more then others, replacements for Gomes.

I don't think we will buy a keeper at this level (A replacement) for Gomes anyway but these would be keepers I would see as good enough replacements. Gomes should be worked hard and alot of mental training is a must as he should know he is good enough which he is.

Asenjo
Rui Patricio
Ustari

I think that if we sign a keeper we should look at these 3. Young realistic targets who have the potential to be at the level the top listed keepers are at. I would even go on to say they could rotate with Gomes now if required. If we made Europa League next season they would be of good use to enable us to rest Gomes for the EPL games as we hopefully push to regain a CL spot.

I think there is a massive element of truth in this. Gomes makes some spectacular saves, but I want a keeper who is 7 out of ten in all aspects of goal keeping if that makes sense. Its like Gomes is a 9 out for ten shot stopping, but 4/5 out of ten in like commanding his area and organising his defence infront of him. Not to mention the rushes of blood to the head, its happening too many times.

I just want a steady eddie who puts in solid displays week in week out for the most part and isn't compromised by a lack of confidence or impulsive decision making.

Like Bale does every single game....

If he touched him before he touched the ball, it's a foul. We're not in the 60s anymore.

A touch is not a foul: then all the thugging of shirts, bumping should against shoulder etc. at corner/free kicks would lead to penalties as well.
Besides, I haven't seen anyone making a comment on how Gomes (vs. B'pool), when he was about to collect the ball, had Rose bump - or rather barge - into him and thus knock him out of blance and thus losing the ball.
Every sinlge move Gomes makes, if they are not 100 % correct, is seen a blunders by some.

I wouldn't replace him.

I love him.

(In a manly fan-love kinda way :shifty:).

He's quality.

We just need to keep coaching him, nothing wrong with an eccentric goalkeeper.

What we need to do is get a physiologist in to work with him, but I'm sure Redknapp will just get Tony Parks to do some more catchin wiv im.

Last season only Petr Cech had a better save ratio than him.

This season he's been a liability. Then again, last season we had King, and he reduces the amount of shots fired at Gomes or in the box.

Maybe it's just our defenders not up to scratch. We need someone as good as King to shore up our defence. Dawson and Gallas been great but you often feel they'll leak a goal every match. On the other hand, King erase that thought and we play superbly and our GK doesn't have much to do.

Gomes should stay if our defence can reduce the shot rates at him. And he needs a new GK coach to teach him when, where and how to collect/save shots. No point being a world class keeper who can only pull off amazing saves and can't save the easy stuff.

PS - not ruling out we shouldn't get a new GK, but just saying maybe Gomes isn't the one to blame for every point lost (OK his silly mistakes are all him though).

Anyone worried Gomes may be kept on in order to keep Sandro happy ? I've heard they do a lot together in their spare time, Gomes has helped in settle into the English way off life. I hear they are offen seen eating in the Brazillian restaurant at the O2 Arena !

So we should bring Leandro Damiao that's Sandro's best friend from Internacional. Great young striker also

And to replace Gomes, I would try for Lloris, even if it's imposible. Once we are rejected I would try for Stekelenburg or Adler

Gomes is too nice IMHO, you look at all the top keepers they are constantly bollocking their defence, H.G doesn't seem to be that way inclined from what i've seen.

I wouldn't be sacking him off just yet as all the problems he has apart from being too nice are coachable and he's not the sort who won't listen to advice.

We need a top number 2 who will push him and strikers that can test him in training.

They ducked to avoid overhead tramlines. The shield didn't duck quickly enough.

Haha I just noticed that! I'm sure the trophy hits the tramlines then he drops it.

It's lucky he wasn't electrocuted!!!
