Why do people chant for JD

I like him but I've never been convinced by people who say he has what it takes to become a top, top striker. There's definitely a big argument for selling him in January.

Knowing our luck, Bent and Berbatov would have a nasty clash of heads on the training pitch the next day, leaving both out for 2 months!

Yes i am not disputing he is a great player but he wont commit himself to us so why the loyality???

JD wants first team ( Not saying what position in the pecking order he is) and the way he has been fucked about by Sven, Maclaren and Jol, I in his shoe would think very seriously about putting pen to paper.

I bet most of the other players who signed before the recent fiasco, probably are now thinking they should have waited.

And another thing, why do you season ticket holders seem to imply that as you season tickets, you are more entitled to see things go your way, or that you are more of a "Spurs" fan than us non ticket holders. You dont need to bloody keep saying it when making an argument because it doesnt make your argument any more credible or valid!

Defoe's application on the training ground can't be right.

He's a 'shoot on sight' player, probably deadly given the right moment.

he is not a team player. Both Jol and now Ramos need that.

Bent is the more preferred option - dedicated, running channels and will pass the ball rather than attempt to break the net.

He showed that today.

It'd be pretty strange if he did put pen to paper without hesitation, given his lack of first team chances.

And let's not forget he's never moaned to the press about it and seems to respect the club and the management. Has carried himself well and shown character in a situation that would send the Anelkas of this world into a screaming tantrum.

If he did leave in January I won't be screaming about a lack of loyalty - I'll be thinking it's fair enough really. Be a shame to see him go, though.

Exactly.

He's been a great servant for us, expecially the first 18 months. He never goes to the press and moans, and there are plenty of others who would. If he goes in Jan, fair play. Hope he stays though, despite all the talent we have up front, he's still the most clinical finisher we have. Wherever he goes he'll be a storming success.

Ian Wright (bless) constantly says Defoe loves the club. He's happy, his mates are there, he doesn't want to go.... he just wants to play football. Can you blame him for not signing a contract that could possibly mean him being 4th choice striker for the next 5 years.

Add to all that, he was warming up at the time and it's quite regular that players get an ovation, especially the more popular ones like Defoe.

That's why people sing his name.

The bit in bold is the only part of that quote that I disagree with. He is definately not our most clinical striker at the club.

I don't sing it as I'm not a Defoe fan. He can have great moments, but is a bit too 'self centred' and that just doesn't make a good team player. Shoot me down now if you want, but that's just my opinion.

Have to agree with nidge, it's a myth that Defoe is our best finisher as I've lost count of the amount of times he's had a goal-scoring opening and power-puffed it straight at the keep. He does this A LOT!!!

Berbatov, Keano and maybe Bent are better finishers than Defoe.

He most definitely is.

Keane is a scorer of great goals and his link up play is superb, but how many one on ones has he missed in the past? Berbatov's an all round genius but not necessarily clinical and Bent hasn't been given any time yet. Keane and Berby can be extremely clinical but it's not a word i'd use to describe their play as a whole, whereas i would for an on form Defoe.

Gently passing the ball directly to the oppositions goalie is not being clinical at one-on-ones Mr Sexy-Beast 2008!

But that last bit has been missing for nearly 2 years now. Defoe for me is a scorer of great goals but, will never be a great goal scorer in the greaves or lineker mould, defoe just doesn't ever seem to be in the right place at the right time.

Defoe for the last 2 years has become very proficent at hitting the ball as hard as he can without really looking to place it. I have lost count the number of time when he thrashes at the ball rather than trying to place a shot where the keeper can't get to it. We know he is capable of placing shots but, he seems to have forgotten how to do it.

Genuinely, i know who i'd rather have up front in a one on one situation. But you got the part about the sexy beast right

Yep, fair point, but he's the one who has suffered most with the rotation system. And it's fair to say Defoe is a confidence player who needs someone to tell him he loves him (hence the support from the fans). Maybe Ramos can cook him some paella over a nice pint of San Miguel and tell him he's lovely.

My point was that if all our strikers are on top form, i genuinely believe Defoe is the most clinical. It hasn't really worked out that way at Spurs over the last couple of seasons but i believe it's for reasons out of his hands, like Jol not liking 2 small players, but mainly Sven being a **** towards him re the England omission against Wales (i think it was) and telling him toi change his entire game, which had been massively successful for Spurs until then.
