Why does Modric get higher ratings via SC polls compared to the media/pundits?

Are you sure that is how it happened? I seem to remember a Pav shot being parried by Robbo and Crouch tucking in the rebound. I might be wrong...

Don't trust ole Gibbsy on that one.

I got it wrong. I think VDV was involved in the goal, pretty sure he gave it to Pav with a nice through ball.

If so he was involved in 3 goals. But he didn't play to his best right?

No he didn't play to his best. He was miles from his best Gibbsy sorry. VdV is great but he wasn't at his best today, I don't really see the issue with that?

Incidentally are you really blaming Modric for the second goal because he turned away? He was a full 2 metres from the ball, even if he had dived head first at full strength he wouldn't have stopped that ball going into the box.

Correct. He had no choice but to jump out of danger.

You are MENTAL

Miles from his best. Involved in 3 goals. What is he supposed to do? Score every game? lol. He wasn't played up front, and he STILL managed to do what Modders is SUPPOSED to be doing for us.

You know he was played on the right yeah?

I agree VDV was very good (in spite of other comments to the contrary) but he was not "on the right". At best that was a token position. He had largely a free role that sometimes began from the right.

I risk fear of being made to look daft when the stats come out but I suspect Bale put in more balls from our right (not including dead balls) than VDV did today.

Hutton was essentially our right flank all on his own, which makes his excellent performance all the more commendable.

I actually made that point when Fat Sam changed to 4 3 3 (making life easier for our only out of position player to come in more). I know he wasnt playing as a winger, come on now.

I also commented how good Hutton played at half time.

I'll come when I like, thanks.

I have unfortunately not found time yet today to read all your posts, an oversight I'll address at the earliest possible juncture. What I was referring to was the above post where you (over)confidently pointed out to another poster that VDV was playing "on the right".

The change to 4-3-3 was not all good news for us, though. I'm sure somewhere on here you'll have noted the way we couldn't move the ball as freely down the flanks or have quite the space and time for our little triangles - though they still worked well thanks to the exceptional quick feet and technique of our array of talented midfielders.

VDV played alright today, definitely not his best, but he did well. Great pass for Pav leading up to Crouches goal. Great training ground move with Bale for the opener. Brought the ball down well for Bale's brace, though clearly his intention was to shape to shoot himself.

Modric was superb in the first half, just superb. Second half he fell away a bit (though still put several balls through for Bale) and made a couple of wrong decisions, but on the whole is was another good game for him.

Neither was at their best, but both were still obviously head and shoulders above most of the other players on the pitch from either side, and between them and Bale there's a fuckload to get excited about right now.

He did easy peasy passing mostly backwards in the first half.

"Superb" ??????

He was barley mentioned in the match tracker in the first half on the OS.

It mentioned him getting booked for simulation and this:

43.38:43.38: CLOSE - SPURS. Modric wide to Hutton, great cross on the looked set to be headed home by Crouch at the far post before Samba stretched to glance it away. Corner came to nothing.

4pm: Teams on their way back out.
HALF-TIME: SPURS 2-0 BLACKBURN ROVERS
Added time (46.55): Gallas there to clear twice from Kalanic.
Added time (45.10): Crouch showed his value at defensive set-pieces to clear Pedersen's free-kick and suddenly were on the break as Bale chased onto van der Vaart's pass, Jones just had the edge on him and slid in to clear.
Added time: 2mins
43.38: CLOSE - SPURS. Modric wide to Hutton, great cross on the looked set to be headed home by Crouch at the far post before Samba stretched to glance it away. Corner came to nothing.
41.24: GOAL - SPURS. Bale ran at Chimbonda, shifted the ball to his left and dug out supreme cross that simply invited Pavlyuchenko to head home at the far post, and the Russian obliged in style.
Spurs 2-0 Rovers
41.11: SAVE - ROBINSON. Pavlyuchenko twisted and turned in box, away from Chimbonda, cross deflected off Givet, Robinson reacted quickly to palm away.
40.45: Kaboul stooping header to clear Hoilett's cross.
38.11: SAVE - GOMES. Kalanic onto Givet's pass, great control and turn to lose Kaboul, Gomes out sharply to block the one-on-one. The danger continued though as Hutton sliced his clearance back across goal, Bale there to block Chimbonda's effort.
36.13: SUB - ROVERS. EL Hadji Diouf for Salgado.
34.55: Bale appeared on right, marked by Chimbonda and Hoilett, shifted onto left foot and whipped cross in that zipped just in front of Modric, Robinson gathered to his right.
34.01: Samba up well to meet Jones' floated free-kick, not enough power on the header to trouble Gomes.
32.24: PENALTY MISSED - SPURS. Pavlyuchenko stepped up and fired wide of the target, aiming to Robinson's right.
30.42: PENALTY - SPURS. Jenas brilliantly away from Jones and Samba, managed to square towards Crouch, Robinson looked favourite but Crouch managed to get his foot in at the same time, went over, penalty awarded.
28.01: CHANCE - SPURS. Jones left his attempted backpass to Robinson well short and Pavlyuchenko onto it, clear run on goal, could have squared for Crouch to tap into empty net but went for harder finish with outside of his right foot, effort went a yard over.
26.41: Bale away down the left, fantastic cross on the run sailed just over Crouch and cleared for corner. Corner fell to Kaboul who volleyed over.
25.01: YELLOW CARD - SPURS. Modric is booked for diving.
24.43: Appeals for two penalties, first as Pavlychenko clashed with Pedersen as he tried to reach van der Vaart's backheel, then Modric went over Salgado's challenge. Second one looked a good shout on replays. Nothing awarded.
22.58: Samba looped a header from Pedersen's corner a yard wide.
22.29: SAVE - GOMES. Rovers moved the ball right to central, Jones took over 30 yards out and went for left-foot curler, Gomes watched all the way and pushed around the post diving to his right,
20.15: Van der Vaart fired another corner into the near post area, headed away by Pedersen.
18.10: Pressure has continued since goal, Bale's cross met by Crouch, header flicked off Samba and wide for another corner. This time, van der Vaart's corner headed away by Nelsen.
15.54: GOAL - SPURS. Van der Vaart whipped in the corner to the near post met by Bale's powerful, angled header into the far corner.
Spurs 1-0 Rovers
15.24: Assou-Ekotto sent Jenas away down the left, cross aiming for Crouch before Nelsen's fine sliding clearance for corner.
15.07: Good, clean hands from Gomes to take Chimbonda's cross under pressure from Pedersen.
9.45: Clever pass between defenders by Jenas for Bale, Salgado read it well though and slid out for corner. Crouch went up to meet corner, over him, ball cleared.
9.07: Pavlyuchenko down the right channel, worked a fine cross around Chimbonda that Samba did well to head away from Crouch.
7.16: Another good strike, this time from Kaboul, van der Vaart rolled free-kick to him 30 yards out, effort looked on target before it was deflected over.
4.57: Gallas in space, decided to have a go, decent strike from 30 yards always rising.
3.13: Quick feet from Hoilett in the box, left side, drove in a low cross that Gomes did well to cut out at near post.
1.45: Fast start, Bale up against Salgado again, first time they go face to face is left side of the box, Salgado blocks attempted cross for corner. Givet headed clear the corner, Bale sliced a volley wide.

Picture yourself, if you will, strolling down the High Road towards the Lane on a fine Saturday afternoon and having your musings on the game in prospect interrupted by strange, bestial screechings. 'Great heavens!' you think. 'Is someone applying electrodes to the tender parts of a Cairn Terrier?'

Why no! It is simply a Care in the Community type who has forgotten his medication and is screaming incoherent drivel at passers-by.

Do you step up to him and say, 'Hail, good fellow! Let us engage in meaningful debate.'

No, you do not. You hurry on quickly, although if you have a stick handy you might consider pausing briefly to poke the nutter with it.

No, you do not.

Modric has an ordinary game with nice easy passes, limited tacking/heading and disappeared in the second half.

Never saw that coming.

gibbs you probably think Pirlo is crap. Because that is the role he is playing. After the second Inter game the Italian media gave him good ratings and highly complemented his play, and compared him to Pirlo.

The game after you made this thread, I recall that the guardian minute by minute was describing Modric as our only threat, and the best player on the pitch by a mile. The guardian Football Weekly team where giving him all sorts of praise for quitely and effectively going about his bussiness. Its not only spurs fans giving him huge praise.

Also Modric's movement is the best I've ever seen in a player, he is always moving, looking for the pass, and getting himself in great angles for other passes, you who rarely see Spurs live at the ground might well be oblivious to his greatest talent.

Gibbs makes me unhappy. I think from now on I shall take the advice of many of the more level headed posters on here and simply ignore him. To anyone else who feels similar indignation and rage at his posts, I suggest you do the same.
