Why is Dembele being frozen out?

Massively important for us if he can stay fit and in form. With such a young team, someone like Dembele could play a huge role as the more experienced player in the team.

I've always liked him further forwards, and this little triangle of central midfielders with him at the front looks very good indeed.

Yes Daniel, what's up?
I'd take a guess you want me to comment on Dembele, so I will. I'm happy at the current run of form he's having. He has to keep it up in order to convince me that this isn't just a good patch of form and that he's finally got the drive and ambition to improve. He's had two indifferent seasons, quite honestly he's lucky to be here when you consider the impatience that has been shown to other players coming from our support.
I tell you what though his current form makes a mockery of the old hip injury explanation.

His current form might or might not make a mockery of the hip injury explanation, but he also looks like he has dropped a few pounds which might help his hip injury

Maybe.
He's a highly paid athlete he should have been in proper shape before now.

We are being proved wrong a few times as fans so far this season. We need a defensive mid in pre season or we may as well write the season off. Dembele should be sold, just a squad player. Ali to young and inexperienced to step up to prem footie. Mason is just a squad player, it's Bentaleb and one other.....These argument were said quite a lot pre season. How happy to be wrong!

I don't think it's positional and I don't think it's mainly about focus or effort, although Dembélé is player who sometimes plays within himself.

I think most of the difference is that he has finally got rid of the long term hip injury. He played like this a number of times in his first season with Spurs, although with a reluctance to shoot that Pochettino seems to be coaching out of him.

Then he injured his hip and it never seemed to go away for long. Like Aaron Lennon, he'd often be fit enough to play, but not fit enough to excel. The results, in both cases, were not only continuing problems with the injury, but also damage to reputation, as we can see by reading back over this thread.

When Lennon could string together 3-4 months of pain-free football, he would tear up the league. Let's hope the same thing is so for Dembélé, who has a much broader footballing talent than Lennon ever did.

I don't want 3 or 4 months of good football, I want consistency all through the season, like I expect from other players if his hip is stopping him from doing that, then we need to cash in, in January.

Not sure how current form makes mockery of an old hip injury when he has had a clear period of rest which generally leads to recuperation? In fact you could argue the current form could well be a result of allowing him time for the old injury to heal and so the opposite of mockery - it lends some weight to it!

Ultimately we have no idea what the answer is and as with everything there is probably a blend of several things with time out of the team allowing him to refocus, realise what is needed mentally to get his career back on track and I assume get fitter.

Makes sense to me. After finding his best form since joining us and scoring 3 in a row we should definitely sell him in 2 months time.

He had a period of rest last season.

If his injury is a problem then I prefer to get some of that 15 million back rather than play a kind of wheel of fortune with the situation. If he's still on form in January we can get close to that 15 million and clear a space for a player who is fully fit.

Cannot believe Dembele doesnt play every week, he would in my Spurs team.

As I said back in May. He should be playing every week. He is now being played and this is what you get. I laugh at the people who expect him to turn a game with his 3 min cameo sub appearances. Way too many armchair managers in here.
