Well they do refuse to sell. The issue is that our plan b is seemingly Zaha and Grealish. That is the definition of horrible recruitment. And our fans accept that shit while other clubs laugh at us.
Most fans of a Top 6 team would be happy with Zaha.

The disparity in the way Palace played with and without Zaha was absolutely night and day. He has a real talismanic quality.

I watched a few of their matches that got down to the last 15 to 20 minutes and there was a palpable sense coming from the stands that he would put the team on his back and save their asses, and to be fair to him he would often deliver. That's something I feel we've been missing since we sold Bale and could really do with, not to mention what he'd bring to the table tactically in terms of his pace making us more threatening on the counter and his dribbling making us more difficult to park the bus against.

Like many others I would also prefer Martial (who I believe has the potential to reach the absolute top level), but if United dig their heels in and completely refuse to sell him within England I'd be perfectly content to sign Zaha for that role instead.

Who should we get instead of Martial then?

Yeah, given the choice Martial for me as well.

However, if that's not possible Zaha is a very good alternative.

He still brings qualities we lack - pace and unpredictable movement scares the shit out of defences and would leave space for Kane, Dele and Eriksen to weave their magic.

Personally think he'd really enhance our attacking dynamic and those deep lying defenses would find it a lot more difficult to shut us down with him in the side.

All about the big picture, not just focusing solely on the individual.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

the only real issue i have with Zaha is will he perform outside his comfort zone of Palace, as there was not much at United, i know he was young at the time, but it concerns me that whilst he may be very talented, is he a big fish in a small pond sort of player.

Lucas Moura scored 19 goals his last season at PSG before they bought Neymar and Mbappe. People just want shiny new toys.

I'd be fine with buying this guy but once again find him an unnecessary purchase.

You just never know with any of these guys. Are they overperforming bc they get more chances on a shitty team? Would they be even better on a good team bc they are on a shitty team with poor quality teammates?

I think he's better than Son, personally. But that's just one man's opinion.

But what if Pochettino wants him? ( just for a shiny new toy)

He clearly does I just don't understand it. Our outside options aren't the issue. Its who's getting the ball to them when they make runs. I loved Dembele for what he did and what he can do but I don't remember him ever putting a through ball behind the last line of defense or putting a ball over the top to set one of these guys free. That is what we're missing, not another guy who can dribble, we have that.

‘SSN Understands’

SSN understands feck all!!

On another note, who has had a better season? Martial or Zaha? Similar players, who’s cheaper, available, and fits our needs? No brainer, as those no brain football managers say.

Zaha fits the exact same tactical profile as Martial, who we are undoubtedly in for, as a pacey wide forward who's capable of slotting in for Kane. Whether you think he's necessary or not it's obviously a position that the club is targeting in this transfer window, same as a rotation option for Eriksen.

I completely agree with you that we need to bring in an out-and-out central midfielder to replace Dembele, but the fact that we are also targeting other positions in no way suggests that we won't do that. We aren't linked with many in the media but that doesn't mean we aren't working on it behind the scenes. If, come the end of the window, we have not bought a CM I will join you in your frustration but it's premature as of now.

I personally think Martial will be a better center forward than what Zaha can offer. My personal thought on wingers is Martial/Bale or bust. I'd rather put the funds towards new fullbacks or an additional CM or a better CM. Its just so far down on the priority list for me. I know we're going to get a CM but its concerning when just yesterday Hercules was already talking about getting creative with CM. Thats what we should be focusing on and putting resources towards, not being creative.

I agree that we need a CM who can thread those type of passes and dictate a more progressive style of play from midfield.

But I still think we could use a more explosive forward option. Attacking with pace and energy is definitely what disrupts defenses. Yes we need the right passes coupled with good movement but bursting forward and pushing defenses back really disrupts them.

Patient build up play, probing patiently seems to becoming harder and harder to break teams down. Arsenal spring to mind in that sense.
