I read about the kidknapping a while ago. I think the family knew what had happened to their son (that he had been killed). At least they have an answer now.

The family had been in contact with the kidnappers, and had spoken to Wilson's brother just so they knew he was alive. I think all hope was lost when they paid the ransom and didn't get him back.

It's absolutely terrible what's happened, and no matter how much he would have expected his brother's death, he must still be in shock.

I just find it amazing that this sort of thing still happens in the world.

Gangs are a huge problem in central America. they are well organized criminal activities in an environment where legitimate opportunities are still very rare.

Really sad news.

Have always really respected and admired the way Wilson has played on with all of this hanging over his head.

As devastating as this news is, Wilson and his family basically knew that they would never see their brother again afer the ransom had been paid and he wasn't returned. That's the way it is. Unfortunately, as fortworthspurs says, gangs are rampant in this part of the world and local governments just don't have the ability to curb them as too many government officials at all levels (police, army, judges, ministers etc) are involved. Make no mistake, crime in Central America is big, big business and in most cases it starts from the top.
But there again it does to in developed countries, judging by the recent bank scandals where weak governments have just thrown billions of tax payers pounds/euros/dollars away to brush the problem under the carpet while the real culprits are still in their jobs.

I sympathize for Wilson and his family and hope that they've made the necessary adjustments to their lives in order to avoid situations like this in the future

On a personal note, Wilson is my player of the year, 2008/2009, even if he did come in as a late Xmas present, as his drive and tenacity has been one of the main reasons our beloved team has managed to get where we now are in the league.

Its stange isnt it...sometimes we give footballers far to much abuse..we sometimes forget they are still human. And like the rest of us are not untouchable to the "outside" world. I dont know how pal has coped in the last couple of years..I really dont!

But also we have so many tragic stories in our club....Jermain Defoe, Gomes and Zokora..... Its just the sad case of things...it really puts things in prospective
