People said this?
Nope.

Some, like myself, have asked questions how he fits into the team and if he can play with Kane. I asked because I don't know.

Some want the money spent elsewhere and a cheaper striking option to be better.

But an actual group that thinks we don't need him is a figment of the imagination.

Sessegnon is one bit of business that irks me. £25-30m + Onomah. Not a specialist LB/LWB nor LW. Sometimes even played on the RW on account of a bunch on tap-ins at Fulham. It was hype. You can’t have a LWB who might come good in that position for £25m.

The crazy thing is we apparently almost signed his brother for the other wing back role as part of the deal!

Doherty is the worst player I’ve ever seen AND the biggest surprise.

So I’d like to see us upgrade the secondary wing back roles in the summer. Or move Japhet to Doherty’s place and buy another CB.
We also spent TWO YEARS chasing him

I think everyone agrees we need a striker, some just might think Alvarez or someone else is a better (and cheaper) option than Vlahovic. I trust Conte/Paratici duo, they are proven.

He was excellent, right up until Kane came back in...
I dont think he was. He was still pretty poor but scored a couple of goals but also bombed a few chances. My issue with him is his all round play is pretty poor, he keeps the ball too much, doesn't see great at intricate dribbling or passing, he is very much a player who is great when running on to through balls and either 1 on 1 with space against a defender or at finishing usually.

With Kane gone, he was the point man. He gave City headaches. I think he thrives as the main forward tbh.

Not re-opening the Kane transfer discussion again, but honestly the dip in the teams' overall performance and positivity was visible, when he came back into the squad.

Its about priorities. No point in getting a striker if we dont have the players to create and cross - we will still be back to square one. We have a striker, we just arent creating enough... so lets get creative and we can then focus on a striker.

If we have money for both positions then damn straight get both

We absolutely need a striker, there is no way that situation can continue, but we also need creativity.

He had one decent game against city, when it suited him to purely counter and when city left space at the back for him to do so. He wasn't great against Watford and was trash against palace. He cannot be the focal point of attack as he has zero hold up play.

Fair points. But what we really need is quality. Quality is not always available in January. Just look at the history of signings by top 6 Prem clubs in January. The lack of signings in January goes back way further than Covid.

If it's a straight choice between Vlahovic and a creative player then fine, go with option 2. But I don't believe this is reality.

The reality is that Vlahovic is of the quality we need and due to his contract and Fiorentina seemingly willing to sell, this is the available quality player in January.

We ruined Jose's record of winning at every club and performances like tonight will see s serious dent in Contes CV too. Tonight's performance surely now confirms a massive clear out is required, Sanchez , Doherty, Dele, Berg, Winks should all e first out the door. Followed by Lol Celso, Rodon and others is not deemed good enough or going to be utilized. Plenty others could go on loan.
The fact this list is so long is only testimony to our failed scouting system, and if Conte can see that then the club needs to act and improve and invest in scouting asap. Hitchen will probably have to answer for same as well.

Being objective about the situation what we have is as follows IMO:

Lloris (1st Team)
Gollini (Squad)

Romero (1st Team) - Dier (1st Team) - X (1st Team)
Tanganga (Squad) - X (Squad) - X (Squad)

Emerson (1st Team) --------------------------------- Reguillon (1st Team)
X (Squad) -------------------------------------------- Sessegnon (Squad)

PEH (1st Team) --------- X (1st Team)

Skipp (Squad) ----- Lo Celso (Squad)

X (1st Team)
X (Squad)

X (1st Team) ---- Kane (1st Team) ---- Son (1st Team)
Lucas (Squad) ------- X (Squad) ------- Gil (Squad)

So for me we need 4 1st Team additions in January:
1 x LCB
2 x MF
1 x FW

We then ideally need an additional 5 squad players, although there are current players that we could use to badly fulfil these roles until the end of the season:
1 x CB: Can use Rodon
1 x LCB: Can use Davies
1 x RWB: Can use Doherty
1 x MF: Can use Ndombele
1 x FW: Have no-one for this role

So this basically leaves Winks and Bergwijn as two players that we clearly have no place for in any scenario. Selling any of the above players would then mean bringing in a replacement for the squad position in addition to the 1st team signings above.

That's a lot of business to try and get done in Jan, but for me the focus has to be on those 4 x 1st Team positions.

Gollini--cancel his loan contract, he's terrible. Should had kept Paulo

Doherty--take whatever we can and run!
Tanganga--potential is there would keep for anothr year and see what conte can do
Sanchez--how many chance does he want? - SELL
Rodon --how bad must he be in training not to get a run in the team, poor attitude maybe?
Sessegnon--what a waste of 25m - SELL

Ndombele -- LAZY, slugglish, only plays when he wants - poor attitude - SELL
Lo Celso -- the least "creative" creative midfielder ive ever seen. SELL
Winks -- couple months ago id of sold, but has played fairly well under conte, give until Jan

Alli -- can we cancel his contract like we did serge? let him be a tiktok influencer/gamer he wants to be, cos he's a shit footballer

Bergwijn -- can count on 1 hand how many good games he had for, shitty attitude - SELL ASAP.

couple more first teamers who also need to buck up their ideas in lucas, reggie.

my god, what a shitty squad we have.

Apparently Paratici and Hitchen are undertaking a complete overhaul of our scouting network.

To be honest, when I read that I was pretty bewildered. Not because the current scouting network was being torn up and rebooted, but because Steve Hitchen, the man who has been responsible for said failed scouting network, was involved in the process.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that this man is massively responsible for the downward trajectory this club current finds itself on. You look at the squad and the way we played today and it was him who built it.

Since Hitchen joined the club in 2017, this has been our business prior to last summer when Paratici took over:

Sanchez £38m
Lucas £25m
Aurier £23m
Llorente £14m
Foyth £11m
Gazzaniga FREE
Ndombele £54m
Bergwijn £27m
Sessegnon £25m + Onomah
Lo Celso £42m
Jack Clarke £10m
Reguilon £27m
Doherty £15m
Hojbjerg £14m
Rodon £11m
Hart FREE
Bale loan
Vinicius loan

Thats £336m in transfers. Look at that list and tell me who has been an undoubted success and absolute value for money. Lucas maybe. Reguilon possibly. Hojbjerg also maybe. The rest, in my opinion, have been failures. It’s pure incompetence.

Many people will rightly blame Levy for allowing this rot to set in and, by association, Levy is responsible for Hitchen’s failures too… however, Steve Hitchen is fucking stealing a living at this football club and should be nowhere near the position he occupies at Tottenham.

this has been said to death hasnt it? haven't we had multiple ITK's state that hitchen is really good & its levy often going for the cheap/completely ignoring his input? i may be wrong though.

Rodon and Bergwijn are Hitchen's transfers for sure. There were some ITKs about him wanting Potter and we don't know how many players that he wanted he couldn't get because Levy said they were to expensive. Rodon and Bergwijn aren't terrible (and maybe Bergwijn would develop better if he wasn't always injured) but I don't think we have enough info to judge either way. I have my doubts but we will know better in Conte's reign.

I don't think we can hammer Gollini too much right now, he needs time to settle in and not be in a team full of under-performers.

Likewise with Sessegnon - let's give him a bit more a chance before writing him off.
