Fifa will try and prevent Tottenham striker Harry Kane from wearing a ‘OneLove’ captain’s armband for England at the Word Cup, according to Keith Hackett.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Uefa and World Cup referee claimed Fifa are willingly ignoring a political issue and will want the captains to wear armbands with their logo on them.

The FA & others refusing to play in Qatar would make a far bigger statement , Oh silly me maybe the money to be earned is more important.

That ship sailed years ago.

Wish this country had taken a stand and refused Mansoor when he bought City. Too late now and as a result we can't really refuse the Newcastle deal even though their human rights abuses are almost certainly worse than Mansoor's. There isn't any sort of sliding scale for that sort of stuff where there's a line that has to be crossed, and now it seems like there never will be.

It sailed long before that as well I'm afraid. The UK has been systematically sold off to overseas investors for decades now. Too late for it wind back now.

Not that we have to stop pointing it all out.

Genuinely hope our boy says, yep, no bother, all fine, leave it with me then marches onto the pitch wearing it anyway.

It's not a political statement, it's a humanist stand against pricks - their laws and rules don't cover that, let them be the ones to take a person to court for promoting equality.

Rotten organisation.

The first captain to wear the proposed arm band in the WC will be Harry on Monday 21st Nov. and we are up against Iran who at the moment are killing protesters on the streets of Iran , interesting.

True, but I think it went up a notch with the Saudis. They'd only just murdered and dismembered Kashoggi when the NUFC deal was given the OK.

Such a ridiculous world cup. There isn't a thing about the organisation of it that makes any sense.

... because they don't like women doing what they like. We're in for such a clash of cultures at this world cup.

FIFA should drop all national anthems at this world cup and have something similar to the Champions League anthem before games otherwise could be a lot of booing being heard.

That rebel at it yet again, showing support for unity and inclusitivity.

I really hope I have the will power to not watch the world cup (won't claim I won't because until I'm actually faced with it, I won't know what I'll do) but if I manage to avoid it, I know I'll be accused of hypocrisy by my mate's as I'm not attuned to everything I consume and it's backstory, like oh you care about this slavery here but what about your clothes for example. What you said about because of city, we had to allow Newcastle reminded me of the response I have in my head already which is; that's like saying because I'm addicted to sugar I might as well give up and try heroin. We as a society always seem compelled to justify a bad thing because of another bad thing don't we.

Wearing an armband doesn't excuse Kane for his involvement in this disgrace. It would only be a gesture anyway - a focus for commentators to recite a quick line about how wrong modern day slavery and discrimination are, as they all join in the sportswashing jamboree.

I can't stand performative activism, I genuinely feel better about myself saying hey you know what I've actually not contributed to this thing but I'm not going to drink in the feel good about myself of changing my display picture or clapping. Sport is absolutely rife with wanting to look like it's one thing and doing another. I think as soon as companies started to participate in the performance, it should have been over.

I'm afraid all the problems really started when that horrible Russian crook bought Chelsea, way before the Mansoor deal happened.
