Proud of the Aussies. Our defence is our achilles heel and that game just proved it.

The future is certainly more bright compared to where we were 12 months ago.

I felt dirty by the end of that game, because I found myself liking the Aussies! It's a rugby / cricket thing.

Was a good match, Australia proved they are certainly no push overs.

It's a long flight home, but heads will be held high.

Australia played more like Dutch than the Dutch – they played out from the back with comparative ease. The pressure on the ball by the Australian reverted the Dutch to long balls.

Well done Ange Postecoglou – you certainly outplayed Louis van Gaal. I guess there was a huge amount of contempt shown by him to the Aussies. I hope he takes this attitude with him to United!

Couple of things from that match

1) I like Tim Cahill. He is not afraid of a bit of argy-bargy. He is willing to engage in it but even more important, when it came to him in this match, he laughed it off. I wish a lot more players did that.

2) Jonathan de Guzman will cost the Netherlands a chance at the ultimate prize. He doesn't do much. While de Jong isn't a pretty player, he's an effective one. de Guzman seems to be trying to play along side him in what the Germans would call a double six but he neither tracks, tackles nor links. He literally played as a shadow. They need to either change the system or the player because he's not effective as things stand. And notice that as soon as he was pulled, Netherlands began to win the midfield battle. On the plus side, good luck with that kind of illogical favoritism at United, van Gaal. :D

3) Australia is like Ghana in that they have one of the younger sides at this tournament. While they are out of it now, I would be very excited about Russia '18 if I supported them. They looked good and unlike the Chile game, they didn't seem overwhelmed with the stage.

4) Things I heard at the bar I watched this at near Fenway Park here in 'Murica
a) Is it still zero- zero? (and the usage of zero is horrifying on its own, but this was in the 4th minute)
b) I want Australia to win because their our biggest allies in the war on terrorism. (fucking hell)
c) Where is Holland?
d) They are like the English, right? (about the Aussies)

I'm just gonna let D stick with you for a while

e) and the winner......if you consider that rounders has no contact other than the rare home plate collision and I was at a bar with a bunch of people getting drunk before the Red Sox game, when Indi was injured......."fucking soccer pussies"

Will be interesting to watch Spain tonight. Personally, I thought they looked confused the other night. It seems to be as if they have listened to people whinging for years how they 'need a centre forward' and 'should be more direct instead of endless passing' and tried to incorporate this. However at their best I see them as one compact unit, almost a whole, moving the ball around. The attempts to go more direct at times means their shape gets stretched and makes them even more vulnerable to the counter than they already are in my opinion. Plus the likes of Xavi and Iniesta aren't going to suit increased running and distances covered. They were also very lopsided, they needed width on both sides of the pitch but had nothing down the right hand side.

Lets see if it clicks tonight, I note they have made a couple of big selection decisions. My instinct is though that despite it becoming less effective in club football, I'm not sure they needed to tweak it at international level yet.

hahaha chile fans old school!!!

You talking about them crashing through the 'temporary barriers'?

If I'd had the tv muted I would've thought that was a typical Saturday afternoon at Stoke.

Hoping for another excellent game. Will Spain put their last game behind them or will Chile rise to the occasion? I have a feeling Spain will do ok tonight.
