Well that couldn't have worked out much worse. FIFA wankers.

I really hope we turn France over just to piss FIFA off.

Terrific stuff. Think France will be too smug (the French? No? Shurely not?) and you lads'll nick it. Keano bicycle kick in the last minute of the second leg.

That said, if we beat them, will FIFA introduce another new rule to let them through anyway?

FIFA changing the rules to suit them? NEVER!!

They obviously want the best nations there but its a bit harsh to announce half way through the comp that the play offs will be seeded

Are they 2 leg matches then?

I actually think Ireland will win this.

Really hope they get to the World Cup, even though Republic of Ireland aren't a home nation of the UK, I still always enjoy them at a World Cup with Scotland so I have more than one team to cheer on/support.

Come on Ireland!!!

prefer our chances against france then russia. not exactly a great draw for us especially with home leg first but if stevie reid is back fit he'll boost our CM and just hope and pray that mcgeady can learn how to pass between then and now.

Hope Trap can get us through this. Don't like our chances much, but then I didn't expect us to finish second when the group was announced. Come on you boys in Green...

This can be done. The only downside is the first leg at Croke Park. Would have preferred the second leg at home.

France have so much talent in their ranks but an absolute madman of a coach. They have a very complete squad with quality options on the bench in almost every position. I don't know why they are keeping that clown Domenech to lead this good mix of youth and experience. If they had a decent coach with a defined strategy they wouldn't have to struggle so much for a ticket to the WC.

It is a TOTAL disgrace....on the part of FIFA (again). Blatter is the worst CROOK since Sir Stanley Rouse 'dirtied' the Proud Halls in Zurich in the 60's. How do the other 'worthwhile' countries in World Football allow this to happen? It could be their turn soon and nobody will care when they cry 'wolf' (on equally deaf ears?).
I have no doubt that the worst Republic team in many years can BLUFF their way through to SA, in the summer, but the Tournament will hardly rank as one of the best on record (unless the seeding scandals are replicated to allow a 'seeded' winner like England or Germany, like in '66 lol?).
I can't wait to hear the HOWLS of derision on ITV and BBC (and maybe even Sky he he) when Terry Cries after a 1st Round mauling at the hands of the Mighty Cooke Islands lol! Dream on he he! COYS!

The 'worst' Republic team in years? If that was the case we'd hardly be in with a shout of the play offs and wouldn't deserve a place in South Africa. This current team have put a bit of pride into being an Irish football fan. We've had fuck all to crow about for years and play-offs are usually miserable affairs. Let's see how we get on before we moan about it.

I would have prefered Portugal or Greece. I think France will have to much firepower up front. But who knows? We're shocked the big boys before and Trap seems to be a lucky manager. As long as we go into the 2nd leg without having to chase the game I think we can win.
