Worst penalty decision you remember?

Think the goon filth were a little unlucky last night.

Got me thinking about the worst decision/non-decision:

I remember an FA Cup quarter-final between Man U and Man City in 1994 (or 96?)

United were 1-0 down and being thoroughly outplayed by a Kinkladze-inspired City. Then they get a corner which is taken without real incident. No shoving, no handball, nothing. The referee blows...for a penalty to United! It's scored, they go on to win the double.

I even remember Fantasy Football taking the piss out of it - they focussed on Roy Keane ranting when the whistle was blown - and then frantically applauding when he realised it was a penalty. Fucking hilarious. Why that ref was not investigated is beyond me.

I even think it tops the Maradona handball non-decision (although nothing to do with penalties there).

2/3 seasons ago on the opening day of the season Charlton are away at Everton, the incident occured when an Everton player try to cross the ball into the box, Chris Powell went down to block it and did so successfully. The linesman is waving his flag furiously and the ref is intrigued, he goes over to the linesman who tells him that Powell handled the ball. The ref agreed and gave Everton the pen (which they scored) and I think Powell got sent off alsp.

On MOTD that same night replays CLEARLY showed that ball hit Powell on his head and was no where near his hands, crazy decision!.

Wasn't it Fowler who tripped up in the box ages ago, got up and signaled to the ref he'd fallen over, but the ref had already pointed to the spot and didn't go back on his decision?

Or a couple of seasons ago in the FA cup, there was a scramble in the box, and a striker got taken down by a slide tackle from his own teammate and it was given... the players begged with the ref but he was having none of it, until the linesman came over and pointed out the mistake

Robbo's brilliant charge out and save at Sevilla last season... Feel sick just thinking about it.

the seville one for me - easily - absolute disgrace and completely changed the tie - and perhaps Jol's career?

I also remember a diabolical one from, I'm pretty sure, Rob Styles, opening day of the season v Brum - Gardner and Savage are doing normal jostling in the box - Savage does a complete and utter dive/flop and for no discernible reason Styles gives it - unbelievable - we lose 1-0 and sets off our season terrible

Easy call.

11th April 1981 FA Cup semi @ Hillborough vs Wolves.

Our cupboard had been bare for a few years but we were winning the semi 1-0 but in the last minute Hoddle tackled Kenny Hibbitt and he fell over like a sack of shit and the ref gave a pen, which caused extra time, we led 2-1 but they equalised again to finish 2-2.

Our coach didn't get out of the car park up there till 7.30pm, and we also forecast the Lemmings Lane disaster, it was a shithole.

The replay was at Highbury .. We stuffed them 3-0 the third from Ricky Villa was a peach of a thunderbolt, into the goal in front of the North Bank, mind you the ground was full of Tottenham fans anyway.

The first half hour, I thought they were going tobeat up Liverpool. But after Flamini went off, they were really run off their feet as they had two guys who were just standing or at best strolling around in Diaper and Gilberto. Had they plyaed the Pussy as a starter instead of Diaper, they might have been so far ahead that there would be no comeback by Liverpooh.

And the penalty was a joke. So as I've said on a number of occasions, they never recovered after the thrashing by us.

The one Birmingham got v City the other week was an incredible decision, clear 50/50 shoulder to shoulder where both players gave as good as they got and the City player came away with the ball. And Styles blows for a penalty! Insane!

Zokora's dive v Pompey was a bad one too ... don't like to see that.

Pompey have been hard done by when it comes to diving, Pires in the Arse's unbeaten season ... it wouldn't have been unbeaten but for that dive!

The penalty last night looked like a penalty in real time to me. But the replays show it was iffy, I don't think the decision was absolutely shocking because it happened so fast, but it was bad.

Update.

The penalty against Manure just now. Reminiscent of Sevilla. What a terrible, terrible decision - what on EARTH was the ref thinking??

Terrible penalty too, by De Rossi - must have ended up in the Manchester Canal.

It's decisions like that that make you think bribery straight away. I just don't understand how a human being can make that decision from that viewpoint.

On another note - Anderson, Park, Hargreaves & Carrick are making Giggs look a pedestrian.

Watch the replay, Brown doesn't touch the ball. He kicks Mancini's foot into the ball so it looks like a great tackle. But it isn't. Mancini went down easily but he was caught.

Have you ever tried to ref a match?

Also, yeh... Giggs needs to retire soon before he fades into obscurity!

Last night's was a penalty. It looked like it wasn't at first, but Wes Brown didn't touch the ball at all.
